I love how he always says "ah so" when he's answering a question, but he says it so quickly it sounds like he's saying "aso", which is tagalog for dog, lol
Cultural differences without prejudice, bullying and humiliation make things so funny and beautiful. This is something this new generation hardly understands. Everyone who's interested in different cultures love this show. ❤😂
As someone who used to teach English as a Foreign Language to many different nationalities, this really rings true. It's a lovely comedy without being unkind or nasty - I'm sure other countries could do a comedy on us Brits and our poor grasp of foreign languages, too!
Dear 2008giles You are very perceptive and insightful. I know this to be a fact as I have spoken many times with the actress Francoise Pascal. She once wrote to me about the conceptual basis for the show and the airing of the episodes. She said that the show was conceived based on the fact that it was incredibly difficult for both teachers and foreign students in teaching/learning to speak English. It was not about being judgemental but rather a soft take on a group of individuals from across the globe being able to come together like a family despite their backgrounds. I feel this very evident watching replays of the show and I think it a huge pity that masses of people can only find discrimination or racism in the script. Those people have no capacity to understand nuance and that realise the stories are similar to a family - as with every family harmless conflict breaks out and then everyone become close again. Maybe some people (not all) would be better off trying to like/love others rather than take any opportunity they can to take offence. Surely the former are better human attributes than the latter. At the very least at least try to see warmth, harmon and forgiveness where it exists or is shown.
It's hilarious the way most nationalities misunderstand English idioms. For example, 'biting the bullet' would probably confuse a non-native speaker who hadn't heard it before. Or 'biting the dust'. THey'd usually take those literally.

I remember reruns of this show from the 90's when I was a child. I was always delighted to catch it by chance. A lot of it went over my head but it was always very playful and silly which I loved. Now I'm in my late 30's and most of the jokes are a bit childish, but I can't help but feel sad since I feel like I'm seeing old friends again, yet this is just a show and many of them are dead or soon to be.
it doesn't matter that the jokes are childish, that's part of the point and the fun, the clash of personalities and cartoonish acting and innocent humour, now we have jaded existential crap posing as comedy with tons of love triangles to try and make storylines, instead of cute creative ideas like this had
Yes I understand, it's meant to be all silly and playful, but some jokes were very childish at times and are hard to appreciate as an adult. It's still a lovely wholesome innocent show and the fact that it's historic as well, being produced in another time and world basically, makes it all the more worth treasuring. I think the best thing about it was how happy everyone was and no-one was supposed to be "the man" (or woman) like modern shows.
@@gavinlynas2833nothing childish about it. You come across as very patronising. These were students trying to learn English..... Today the British don't make any comedy worth watching, it is full of swearing and insults. There was a time when the British exported their shows all over the world.

I just read up on Barry Evan's death. The actor who played the teacher. It looks like a murder but whoever's killed him tried to make it out like it was a suicide.
He might have been killed unplanned, probably had an argument with whoever he was drinking with and it ended up with a blow to his head. Sadly he lived alone so there were no witnesses. His last few years were tough, he drove a taxi and was broke and was probably an alcholic.
This is fun because it is offensive. The director shut it down eventually bc he felt it got too racist. The stereotypes are incredibly racist! But it's funny.
