The original story line with the characters was written by a Pakistani lady ‘Pumpi Moore’. It was based upon her personal experiences within the Pakistani families she met when she arrived in the UK. It was a humorous take on British Pakistanis and their cultural conflicts with British society. The manuscript was presented to the BBC but they declined saying they didn’t have funds etc or it was not of current interest to them. A couple of years later this show appeared on national TV. I still have her original handwritten manuscripts with her directions lying forgotten in some box somewhere,

It's not surprising at all, that's BBC for you. Like any television network ( but especially ones that claim that they are funded through government or personal donations and not advertisement) the BBC will do everything in its power to prevent paying a single dollar pound to anybody who creates anything for them. They will happily lie with a big wide smile on their face that they loved your story or your idea or project but they just don't have enough money to do it and then lo and behold a year or so later they'll have that exact same thing being broadcast and when you try and call them and tell them that what they're doing is wrong that they're stealing your idea. They will just laugh at you and tell you to see them in court if you have the money to oppose them. It's not just the BBC that does this plenty of other networks across the world have done this. It's just a simple fact that if you have any original idea for a story that you want to have created in any entertainment Medium, you're best off making either a novel that you self-publish online or finding a bunch of friends and trying to do it yourself on CZcams, like those incredible mad lads who made who killed Captain Alex. Because companies like the BBC will always do everything they can to steal ideas from creators so they can make them without having to pay the creators for their intellectual property.

@@lornbaker1083 Thank you and that’s basically exactly what happened. A couple of years back when I was reading the manuscripts, I was amazed at how well they read and how she had even put the directions in.
The story gets worse as I think, before this event, while doing her law degree, she had to do some work experience with the Met. At some Met. Christmas party she came out with her idea for a painting of a very very famous 1960s murderess, I’ll just say the incidents occurred in the Lancashire, Yorkshire area. She was often on the front pages of Tabloids. The police inspector told her off for giving out her idea. She said, they’re only police, what would they know about art, he replied yes but you don’t know who they know! Anyhow about a year later the painting with exactly the same idea was unveiled. Having known her for many years, I knew her creativity and the ideas she was constantly churning out It therefore made sense to me. When I looked at the other art of the famous artist who had unveiled his version, it struck me that that form of abstract thinking was not really his style at all! Anyhow, I still have her paintings and sketchbooks.the sketchbooks are all locked away in suit cases.

@@Yuzoboy they were based around a Pakistani family in which the Father ran a shop and basically sold everything. He was always trying to cut corners and find ways around problems. He had two daughters who were trying to keep the balance between their British identities and their parents’ Pakistani family values. I think there was also a young Irish man as a shop helper. It’s been over 5 or so years since I read them. Some were intact, and some had pages missing or were out of order. The BBC changed the name, can’t remember the original name but it was a similar short one like Shah. This whole affair was distressing but because she was so creative she moved on to other things. At one point she used to work on a TV phone-in show but as a telephone receptionist to take in calls. She was picked up by some producer who then suggested her for the show that Anneka Rice finally did, I think it was the fort boyard in the sea one. She was very young but brilliant. Her friends dissuaded her by telling her the producers were really only after one thing, and she had a very young child, so she said no.

I believe such serieses criticize in a good funny way the mistakes which people do by not accepting the other. I find this program and the other one, mind your language, very rich, educative and entertaining at the same time.
The part which made me laugh and I liked it the most is when khan (who actually was racist all the time to his colleague) was told he is racist and he replied that its more racist to call him a racist since he is Asian 👌 I hope people get the point right and we all start respecting each other; and as immigrants I believe we should show our love and gratitude to the countries which opened its doors for us and gave us equal opportunities and rights to the native citizens.
All love and respect to everybody from me =)

We yes it would it is pro Muslim and refers to Muslims as typical British. If anything it just takes a swipe at Christian’s and white people. So this is very P.C and liberal it very much would be made today.

Amazing show. Been watching it since the day it has been released around 10 years ago and I loved it. Adil Ray has been meeting and studying Pakistani families in the UK to understand them and to create this show on what the lives of British Pakistanis and Muslims are like and how it is presented. I don't see any mockery from this show. You either watch it or don't.
