Hi Steve, If PVC is welded properly it should be as strong if not stronger than the actual PVC Pipe or sheet, if you go to my channel and watch the "beyond Repair" and the "use this plastic welding technique" videos, in these videos welded parts get tested with a hammer. You could also use polypropylene which is much less brittle than PVC but can be fix together in the same way, hope that's helpful!
