Converting PVC pipes to square plastic pipes is very simple | Pvc Pipe Craft Ideas.
How to convert from PVC pipes to box tubes is very easy from simple items: Heat storage machine and some wooden bars.

I've been a tradesman as well as a hobbyist most of my life, and have used torches and heat guns to soften and shape PVC and other materials, but have never thought of this. Very creative!

Se puede construir cajas de alcantarillado y evitar el salitre en las paredes de las casas.
You might round over the ends of the boards so they go in easier (2:45). That way the corners don't bind while being hammered in. Also, using 2 wedges pounded in from each end (like when setting a door frame) would put flat outward pressure on the tube (4:00). That way you wouldn't get the one over-stretched end you cut off (9:45). Just a suggestion...
Awesome suggestions!
The same people aren't forced to be around you all the time are they? I'm guessing no, you're still alive.
Great ideas, you should make a CZcams video.
I was trying to enlarge a 2 1/2 inch round piece of PVC last night with a heat gun and got it to the point of bubbling with heat and it didn’t move as much as yours have. I’m impressed to see how far they actually can be manipulated. Thanks for the video!
I've done similar to save money on PVC pipe couplings and to interface to downspouts. Amazing when you get to the larger size diameter pipes how expensive the PVC couplers can be and really... to interface the same diameter pipe, you just nee to have a heat gun and do like you're doing, though with a cleaned slightly rounded ended... if even that... same diameter pipe to make bell ends. Really saves some money when you're at the 4" or definitely 6" or larger diameter pipe coupling expense and you need a few.
Cutting a 2x4 diagonally to make a taper and insert from both end would probably make it way easier, if you don't mind sacrificing a 2x4.

made some sheaths for saws and such out of PVC pipe. Hadn't thought about being able to make a box out of pipe though. I do use PVC boxes at times for projects, and they are getting expensive these days, especially for larger ones. Really Good Video, will have to remember. New Sub
Buena idea. Interesante trabajo con los distintos tamaños de las maderas. Gracias.
OK my 2 cents on squaring the tube. After heating insert 2 boards then insert and drive in 3rd board between 1st two. That eliminates board digging into wall of tube itself
As always... great ingenuity and craftmansship !
Fast way to evenly heat the pipe is to place in a cardboard box slightly larger that pipe with about 2 inches of clearance around to make a oven. Heat from gun is then spread evenly.
I was thinking this is cool, then you mentioned for an electronics box and that got me quick...will do !!!
Great video. I was wondering about this a year ago. Just need to make 4' pieces and couplings.
Clever. Made a couple of PVC knife sheaths but never a box. I'll definitely try this sometime!
If you want the heated pvc to set faster once it is in the shape you want, keep a spray bottle of water nearby and spray the pvc with water. It will quickly set and harden the pvc.
Nice idea! Like how you can use it as for a DIY electronics box.
Good idea 👍 But to make it easier:
1. Take a board that is 1-2 cm larger in width than the size you want.
2. saw it so in length so that you get 2 triangles.
One side of the triangle should be 90 degrees at an angle.
On top of a triangle or both should be 1-2 cm thick to be able to hit (back) on top with a hammer.
3. the length should be 5 - 10 cm longer.
4. lay the top of the triangles against each other in PVC and press them in.
5. good luck! 👍
NICE! Like 2 shims, one in each end of the pipe!
Cool idea! A few tips of mine and some from other comments:
1. For square/rectangular boards as shown in the video, sand the boards smooth and round the corners at the ends.
2. Make large triangular wedges and insert them from both ends.
3. Safety: 9:55 Never use a sled with rear blade exposure. Add a solid or top-hinged guard first.
4. Safety: 11:15 Never lift a cut item from a moving saw blade. Unless you like things flung at your face at high speeds.
Excellent! I've always wondered about something like this.
I wonder if it would be easier to have the top board be 3 wedges: 2 coming in from the front and 1 coming in from the back. Tap the rear wedge in, thereby forcing the 2 front wedges to separate, with the 3 wedges combined forming the final rectangle for the top.
I might have to try that.
I like the end-use of the grey pipe. Very clever.
That's the point of making the box... Easy, beautiful, sustainable and saves time and money.
Clever idea. What really caught my attention is the lack of safety features. No riving knife and I gasped when I saw the saw blade come through the sled where your hands are.
Huh...wouldn't have thunk...thanks for the demo.
Cool idea, especially the end showing the application.
Amazing! Thanks for sharing!
I would make a mount for that heat gun and keep it blowing on the assembly while you work with the forms. And like others have said, use wedges to make your job easier.
Nice video though. Thank you for sharing
Clever! I wonder if an oven can also be used for the heat source.
PVC stays hot for a pretty good time aye? That's cool
Large folding wedges must make the process much easier
5.6K Like full 👏👏👏
Nice idea, for sure finding the inner circle area of the pipe and some pieces of wood same area.....time and patience.
Nah - just mathematics 😉 (area of circle = πr²)
Interesting concept. You could make the initial box larger and than cut off some for the ends. Than the entire box would be the PVC pipe. Just and idea... Thumbs Up!
very simple :)))
Really awesome and useful idea 💡 👍
I learned from this but, I think I can improve on this. :)
Excelente idea
Fantastic 😊
Its a great way to make an intake snorkel for an SUV.
Nice job, BUT, You really should put a block of wood on the outside of your sled where the blade comes through so you don’t cut your thumb off.
what a great idea. Although I'd slightly put a bevel on the edges of the timber to allow it to slide into place better , but that's just me. Grand job.
I was thinking that he needs to rip a couple of those boards into very long wedges, so he can slide them in easily 90% of the way before finally stretching the tube to final size in the last 10%.
Thanks for your videos.
Wow wow is the best, good idea
I have heated and squared PVC to use as fountains on a swimming pool. These are usually hidden in a rock or tile wall so spending several hundred on a premade one seemed silly when you can get the same effect by using a Dremel and heating the pipe.
Elaborate more please I'm interested
well done
Lose the rubber hammer, any wooden mallet or even a shop hammer will provide faster and easier results. I used a similar remedy to connect dust collection to multiple tools.
This is a very good idea. It is also a good thing that we can fast forward through a video to bypass the unnecessarily long parts with no information.i
10:28 Put a guard on the back of the fence before you regret it for forever... please. This is hard to watch and unsafe in that configuration.
Cool video otherwise.
😬
AWESOME!
THANK YOU
You're welcome 👌
I Wouldn't like to Leave ! These ! Pipes ! Outside ! In Summer !
Nice. Maybe a pair of long folding wedges would be better...? plus a box of some kind, to protect your hands, as the blade pops through the end of the cut...?
Start a wedge from each end just a little and leave the pipe to cool, the wedges will come out easy and make it easier to remove the rest of the boards.
You're a Thermoplastics wizard lol
Put few min in boiling water the put the molding wood is the best method for quality pvc box
I'il try it, maybe I'il do a video 👍🍀
Is it possible to get PVC in ready made sheets and or different thicknesses/colors?
That’s not plumbing pipe. It’s electrical conduit available at home center. Neat idea.
This is diy idea, not buy idea....
@@HandmadeCreativeChannel it’s just a great idea!
@@marcothehammer Thank you, my friend, I appreciate it! 👌
Where did you buy it ! Then !??
bloddy brillian!! :D
Wait wait.....a round peg in a square hole? Sign me up.
👏👏👏👏👏👍👍
Good job
Good good
Well done , try now to boil them in water 😉👍
Very interesting I am going to try it
Use hot sand instead. It's more safe, and it's faster.
Hi there! good project. If you use big wooden wedges instead of squares, the process will be way easier... . Thanks for showing!
PVC is great stuff to work with. I will quite likely try this out. On a safety note make sure that you do this in a really well ventilated area. If you smell any plastic when heating or cutting it is seriously bad for you. PVC fumes are highly toxic and may cause long term effects.
Toxic gases from plastic come out when you burn the plastic. In this case, we're just heating up. "do not overheat" Thanks for the comment 👌
@@HandmadeCreativeChannel that's not 100% true. Burning is very bad, but warming and cutting also emits gas and particles. A long time ago I had to drill 15784 3/4" holes in PVC by hand. We had to take a lot of ventilation, filtering, and tooling into consideration. It's not always easy, but it's well worth the effort. Same thing with 3D printing. Lots of nano particles are emitted. Some are very toxic, some not so much, but I don't think we've had enough time for long-term studies yet.
@@GarryHeard Again, toxic gases come out when the plastic is burned. When you feel a scent from heating does not mean you swallow toxic gas. New plastics are made to be recycled. In order to be successfully recycled, they are designed to withstand a higher temperature so that they can Easy to change shape without burning and emitting gases.
Should’ve rounded off the end of the boards so it’s easier to push through the other side.
Can you use a hair dryer to heat the and shape the tube?
Just make a wooden scissor jack and expand it while heating. This will save time and effort.
It scares the hell out of me the way he operates the table saw.
I thought you were going to make a square dust vac system for the shop. I love that idea...would need to make 10 foot square pipe and connectors...anf round to square adapters for the ends.
Use square gutter down pipe.
Why would you make square pipes for a vac system? Is there some advantage over just using the round pipe as is?
@@rogermccaslin5963 No- it is actually worse in almost every possible way. From poorer flow to thicker wall requirements. The optimum is maximum cross section and minimum wall surface- i.e. a round tube.
Relax ladies...its an idea.
The title should be "How to make electronic projects boxes out of PVC pipes"
Great...now do a 20 ft section
I would suggest next time you want to melt pipe use a propane torch like used for burning weeds, its faster but you gotta careful not to scorch the plastic.
That's not a good idea. When burning with a burner, it is possible to release toxic gases. With a hot air gun, there's no such danger.
YOUR TABLE SAW SLED NEEDS A SAFETY BLOCK ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE FENCE!!!😮😮😮😮😮
Thank you. If you cut the wood's first corner with a smooth angle I think can insert the pipe without demage the interior surface. Best wishes.
I show the bes easy way my friend. Thaks, for your comment 👌
Good
I've already purchased over 50 boxes in the past, you can find them in all shapes and sizes, and are quite cheap.
I would only attempt this solution if I wanted a box with a inclined surface that's not available to purchase online.
PVC should be made and sold to the public in flat sheet form. PVC glues up so well and consumers could make a million different things they cannot make when starting with round pvc pipe.
Very simpele he said.
Be careful once chapped the PVC becomes break
👍
Any idea on how to do this for long pipes like 3 or 4meters ?
PIPE DREAMS
Is this method practical for long lengths of pipe?
Does the applied heat will not affect the texture of pvc pipe? Just asking! .......
You started w/ two small boatds, why didn't you use a third board the right size to expand the joint or at least round over the 2x4 so it slides in easier ???
Your crosscut at 11:38 is not safe. You risk pinching and kickback of the piece a against the fence. Also add a block of wood to the back side of your sled to shield yourself from the blade. But that said, I like the basic idea and would be interested in other uses for square PVC
Yes, I know so. I'il add a wooden block
@@HandmadeCreativeChannel, yep, that's the only reason I jumped to the comments section - to suggest that.
Feel like we hv very different ideas about whats simple....
l'idée est bonne, mais je pense qu'au préalable il faut soigneusement huiler ou graisser les pièces de bois sinon on risque de tout "bouziller" au démontage
might be easier if the 2x4 had a taper mitered onto the edge.
I'm pretty sure you could just put the pipe into a tub of hot water and it will soften uniformly.
Now make Heptagon shaped PVC.😀
Can I suggest that you put a cover over the back of your sled, so the blade does not come out close to your hands. And you should always use a riving knife...
you do Not ever turn lose of material between blade and stop until blade stops
You could just buy a square pipe when you want one. Then someone will do an article on how to make them round.
Does heating the pvc pipe give off toxic fumes?
When you heat up to soften, there's no toxic gases or smoke. It's only when you burn the plastic that smoke and toxic gas come out. You can safely treat with a hot air pistol indoors. Thanks for your comment!
interesting video, however they do make leather gloves for such events. 🙂
Wouldn't it be easier to buy a square pipe ? Like rain gutters are already square or rectangular in shape.
Rectangular & why?
Great VIdeo, this has given me some ideas but cringe with that blade appearing from the table like that...Please put a guard over it..
