Either format works. Honestly just do whatever is easiest for yourself. Been here from basically the beginning it’s cool to see some changes too. Regardless still the first place I check for anything baseball!

Well when my elbow went in college, I was told by a Mets affiliated doctor that everyone that throws anything has a timer on their elbow and some timers are just set longer than others.

thats not accurate. doctors arent universal experts, humans arent clones of each other and arent experts on every human alive. there are players dont even have the ligament needed to tear their elbow. no, not all pitchers have a ticked time bomb in their elbows. they wouldnt suggest you get other doctors second opinions if every single doctor was a true expert on their opinions. nobody is an expert based on opinions

"taking care of pitchers" is actually contributing to the elbow injuries. The reason its counter productive is that if a pitcher knows they aren't going to go 9 innings from the start, then they know they dont have to hold anything back.

I think you nailed it. Max effort on every pitch exceeds the design limits of the human elbow. It seems like MLB today is favoring throwers over pitchers. Ray Miller’s mantra was work fast, change speeds, throw strikes. I wonder if a pitcher like Greg Maddux could even get drafted in today’s MLB. The game is worse because of this.
Yes because Maddux, had a 95-96 fastball when he needed it in prime.

@@AnsticePalo It's insane how the radar-guns have skewed our perception of velocity over the years. Maddux did indeed throw hard, but the radar guns were clocking him at high 80s consistently. From what I understand, 95-96 mph is exactly where he'd sit now with statcast.
I cannot figure out why pitchers and pitching coaches of today don't incorporate the mechanics of Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan and even Steve Carlton and Greg Maddux and learn the art of pitching instead of just trying to light up the Speed Gun.
Because the analytics say that higher velocity and higher spin rates = better results. I don't like it. But that's the reality we live in now.

Hell, in an interview with Chris Rose, Tyler Glasnow said young pitchers nowadays (including himself) are totally ok with going max effort to get their name out there at the big league level and know going in that they will need Tommy John at some point. They see it as juat part of the game and are ok with it if they can still get the big contracts

Can we acknowledge that some people can hit the 102 mph fastballs easier than some people? Like yes this is a massive league wide issue, but Skenes looks effortless and he’s 6 foot 7 so maybe it’s easier for him to throw harder at this point. That’s what I’m hoping for.
Paul skenes scissors with his arms like Strasburg when they separate their hands from their glove and that is usually a elbow problem style of motion. Mark prior was a scissor style hands seperater

Geolito had Tommy John surgery in high school, so to say there was no reason to think he was at risk of an elbow injury is nuts.
I read back in the day guys who drop their ball hand below their shoulder with a high elbow would be more sucetpable to arm injuries in general...the picture in the artical was of Mark Prior

Seattle Mariners has one of the best pitching staffs in all of MLB with Castillo, Kirby, Gilbert, and Bryce Miller. Also good bullpen guys too with Andres Munoz, and Matt Brash who just now had TJ surgery after feeling elbow/ arm discomfort since spring training. With how the game is today, anyone of these guys could be done for 12-18 months cause of TJ. It sucks, I know almost all of them could face it at some point in the next 10 seasons. Go M’s

there are plenty of pitchers who throw hard and are tall and have never gotten tommy john, we are gonna just have to see man. randy, nolan, bauer. never got tommy john. so we will see. i hope he gets 14 ks today tho

Seeing all these pitchers throw this hard and get injured the way they do gives me that much more admiration for pitchers like Randy Johnson and Nolan Ryan. Not only did they throw incredibly hard, but their breaking stuff wasn’t anything to scoff at. Johnson’s slider or Ryan’s curve/change up combo, on top of their fastballs, all while pitching the amount of innings they did every year, AND pitching into their 40’s, is incredible.
I think pitchers are being brought up at to young of an age and it stuns there development, I know he dominated in the minors but I’m still skeptical of how he’s gonna perform

If this dude didn’t pitch well enough to get called up in your opinion, then nobody pitches well enough to get called up. The kid has more than earned his spot.

Curt Schilling saying this reminds me of Pedro Martinez a few years ago saying something similar about Casey MIze (2019 I think) about his prediction of has TJ surgery.
As a Pirates fan, I’m looking g forward to him getting really dominant so that we can trade him for a bunch of prospects that never pan out.
Schilling is 100% right. I watched his two starts and he looks amazing, but it also looks like his arm is gonna fly out of its socket at any second. It just looks like so much stress on his joints. Hope he has a long career though.

You can strengthen the muscles (high nineties fastball) but not the tendons. They are being coached to throw all max effort. Thus arms being blown up.
The problem is how much these kids are pitching year round from the age of 11 or 12.
The way they do his stache in the show makes him look very close to everyone’s unpopular uncle.
Some of his stuff reminds me of Koufax. I'm not saying he is as good or fast, and i haven't looked at his numbers, but just some of his stuff reminds me of how Koufax baffled hitters.

Everyone’s elbow is a ticking time bomb. It’ll go eventually if you throw hard enough. At this point it is what it is, and I wish skenes the best, but sadly in our hearts we know it will likely happen to skenes at some point in his career
We need more pitchers like Greg Maddux no flame throwers. Maybe this pitcher could get a Tommy John in 3 or 5 starts ahead. Biomechanics and know your human limits are the key to avoid those injuries as pitcher.

@@teddyj5187 minors is where you build up a pitcher's reps, let him adjust and get deeper into games.
Skenes has only gone to the 6th once usually only going 3 innings, now imagine going 3 innings on average, then telling them to go 5-6 every outing.
Its a recipe for disaster

I would like to see him in that role, but the value that he (potentially) offers as a starter is impossible for the Pirates to not capitalize upon. Also, being a closer does not necessarily save one from future arm troubles (see: Felix Bautista).
