      I don't believe in taking your foot off the gas. That's how you lose leads. I had a younger cousin that was in a softball tournament when she was like 13. Her team was up 7-1 in the final and her and her teammates were acting like they won when there was still an inning left. Sure as shit, the other team got hot and tied the game up to go into extra innings. They beat my cousin's team 8-7 after an infield error. So my cousin and her team are crying on the sidelines while the other team is celebrating. I warned her it could happen but she didn't believe me until it was too late 🤷‍♂️

    Despite being in 1st place, I think Dave Roberts is a pretty weak manager. The Dodgers are great despite Roberts, not because of him. He's too emotionally bonded with his players to make important decisions like benching Bellinger all of last season, benching Max Muncy this season, and replacing Kimbrel as his closer. Managers need to hurt feelings sometimes for the better of a team but he cant do that.

    • @samorpilla7467
      @samorpilla7467 Před 2 lety +2

      Part of being a good manager is having your guys backs. Players respond well to knowing a slump won’t get you benched for the season. Yes, it’ll lead to times where you ride players who never break out of their slump too long, but it gives all player’s confidence to just continue to work hard knowing playing time isn’t an issue. Remember, these guys are human being who want respect and want to play enough to get paid.
      The Dodgers are so good that Roberts has all the slack he needs to give players a chance to work it out. If they benched Bellinger, they’d be maybe 2 games better this season? No difference in the standings, but all the difference to Bellingers confidence and adding pressure to all struggling players.
      It’s a fine line to walk, and this isn’t a video game where you can just bench or trade all under performing players with no repercussions.

  • @dangelo1369
    @dangelo1369 Před 2 lety +1

    He's not being dumb. I live in New York and I'll tell you he's right. Here's why. The short right field porch made sense in the old Yankee Stadium which was built in 1923 within a city block as most ballparks were back in the day. They were mostly asymmetrical with odd dimensions. You would see the same thing with the Polo Grounds and Ebbets Field. Now take a look at the dimension of Yankee Stadium back then: 295 ft. (right), 490 ft. (center), and 281 ft. (left). What is presently "Monument Park" was the actual center field it ;was the deepest in the American League. One Yankee pitcher said: "The difference between Yankee Stadium and Yellowstone Park is that Yellowstone has bears." So naturally, the Yankees became a haven for left handed sluggers like Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle, Maris and Jackson, later on Mattingly. Of course with the refurbishing of the stadium in the 70's they reconfigured the fences in CF and in LF, but did nothing to the RF fence. So any pitcher would feel claustrophobic with that short right field porch sitting right there. But since it was THE Yankee Stadium, nobody would dare say anything.
    Fast forward to today; athletes are much better and stronger than previous generations. the bandboxes of the past have made way for the concrete and steel ballparks that while comfortable are still challenging to play in. But not the modern Yankee Stadium whose dimensions are straight out of the 1920's Left field - 318 ft (97 m) Left center - 399 ft (122 m) Center field - 408 ft (124 m) Right center - 385 ft (117 m) Right field - 314 ft (96 m) Backstop - 52 ft 4 in. Babe Ruth would be right at home. But to the modern day pitcher, it's still a band box. Now, one could argue that expansion has "watered down" the pitching, but that would also hold true for hitters as well. With today's sports science and technology, it's tough for pitchers to survive. And managers have to ameliorate a lot of pitchers fragile psyches. So to call him "dumb' when he's just doing what a manager would do if his hitter had an argument with an umpire and got thrown out, to me, is missing the point.
    And the "unwritten rules" that people rail about have more to do with "sportsmanship" than anything else. You see, professional baseball was played in era when people were less civil than they are today; compared to those generations, we're rather soft. And baseball was more of rough and tumble game than what you see now. You wouldn't have wanted to play against John McGraw or Ty Cobb if you lived back then. Fighting, spiking people and getting drunk off your a*s was the order of the day. So much so, that Ban Johnson who formed the American League, made prohibiting alcohol at games a selling point for the league. Learn the history of the game and you'll appreciate the present game more.

      2. The original dimensions of YS were originally deeper; Monument Park WAS part of the field of play. It was over 460 feet to dead center. The only other park deeper was the old Polo Grounds.
      3. The renovations in the 70's reflected the realities of modern day play. The short RF fence was still in place-just moved back 15 feet.
      4. Being from New York and having been to both iterations of the old Yankee Stadium and knowing some history, gives me a better insight than let's say some random knucklehead commenting on the subject and the length of my previous post.

He built the club from the ground up, focusing on player development in the minors. Under his leadership, we had the best farm system in baseball. Upon his departure, Jon Daniels took over as GM and began trading away all our minor league talent, thus leaving us with no one to bring up. He has single handedly destroyed the Rangers, focusing only on hitting and allowing our pitching to go into the garbage. If he made ridiculous decisions about who plays and how they play, *that* would make him a smart or dumb manager.
    Dusty Baker, for example, has a really good reputation as a nice, agreeable manager -- but when he was the manager for my Giants, the guy had the most horrendous pitcher management I've ever seen. He'd leave struggling starters in for so long that it was impossible for us to ever come back from the deficit, and he lost us MANY games that way. I'd call that "dumb".

    Woodward might have been wrong about the unwritten rule, but not about Tatis being obnoxious. Because his daddy was a famous player, a lot of people decided to move the goal post, and say "Let the kids play" about stuff that had people calling for Yasiel Puig's head a couple years back.

    The Indians were down by 12 runs to the Mariners in the 7th inning and won. It’s almost like you need to earn 27 outs and keep hitting to win in Major League Baseball.

      Saw a bad 2019 Blue Jay squad score 7 runs on Philly with 2 outs in the 9th to win. Philly must’ve been infected with LolMets for an inning.

    Dumbest manager in baseball seems like a stretch. Let’s not forget Tatis’ own teammates chastised him for the “unwritten rule” violation. Then an off handed comment sticking up for his team after a walk off loss?
    Perhaps that was not a factual comment , but then every player and manager whoever says things factually incorrect are just dumb I suppose.
    The TV show thing at the beginning was interesting though!

      The title is never supposed to be a factual thing, just something I came up with and for the viewer to interoperate on their own. It’s all opinionated at the end of the day with tons of different point of views on the matter! None of us are right haha. And thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed

      Perfect example that shows Tatis was playing the game the right way just happened less than two weeks ago. Phillies were up 7-1 in the ninth against the Mets…the lose 8-7. That means the Mets scored 7 runs in the ninth. But yeah somebody’s feelings might get hurt because their team sucked that night. Maybe they shouldn’t you know give up the homer to Tatis in the first place. Also if someone wanted to throw me a cookie I’m going to smoke it. That homer counts the same as any other and in a sport with arbitration I wanna get the best stats as possible. Also as a Phillies fan I thought this video would be about Joe Girardi which quite possibly is the real dumbest manager in baseball. He thinks Jose Alvarado should be anywhere near a competitive game in the late innings and uses 162 lineups a season. Last year it took him 100 games to figure out Hector Neris should pitch the sixth and seventh innings rather than bring his gas can out when he’s in the closer role. He should call Mariano Rivera everyday and thank him for the opportunity to steal money from the Phillies dumbass owner.

      @@freeparking301 - They’re rare, but I remember the Tigers making a similar 9th inning rally against the Royals in 2006. Players play with a lot of pride and teams don’t give up just because they’re in a hole.
      And you’re dead right about arbitration - not to mention other teams scouts watching for potential free agents.
      You simply don’t give away at-bats.

    Still don't understand why the Rangers got rid of Bannister for this clown. Bannister was doing fine and the team's struggles the year he was canned were obviously not his fault. I've been a huge Rangers fan since I was a kid in the '90s, so I've seen the Rangers through a lot of embarrassing situations, but Woodward is the biggest embarrassment I've seen this club go through.
