  • My Kenmore Elite washer wouldn't drain and I was getting OE error messages so I manually drained it, replaced the drain motor and bought a fun new tool to expand the spring on the spring clamp which holds the door boot in place.
    The tool is called a tension spring expander and it's super simple looking. I'll demonstrate how to use it.

    Man, I've been fighting with this bastard spring for the better part of a week and even with this tool I can get the spring wire in place. Taking the machine apart to get the gasket out was easy peasy and putting everything else back together was a breeze but this spring is driving me bonkers.

    I cannot thank you enough for posting this! No way did I want to spend $75 plus on the LG tool as this entire repair (drain and recirculation pumps) cost me only $50! I fought with the ring for about two hours and finally gave up, and began searching for another solution. That’s when I happened to find your video. Then I went in search of the tool, which was the toughest part of this repair. Only one online company seems to have them - everyone else is out of stock. It took a week to get here, and was $30, but well worth the price as it took me two minutes to put the ring back on. Thank you, thank you!!

      This makes me so happy. I’m lucky to have a supply store really close by. These aren’t complex machines. Ive never had a repairman show up to fix one and thought that he knew a whole lot more that I did. He just has a bigger toolbox and a higher hourly rate.

    Thanks for your video it was a great help,there was no way I could expand that spring by hand.The tool you used gave me the method needed and as I work in a engineering it was quite simple to make my own from screwed rod,nuts and bits of round bar.

    Mission accomplished. I used paper clip binder to hold the spring at the 9,12 and 3 o'clock position until I got the spring back to the unstretched position. Thanks for the tutorial.

    I did them all with my fingers over the years and you have to put so much pressure on them it mashes them red. Some other brands are much easier but a few are impossible without a second person or the tool

    • @JessicaGottlieb
      @JessicaGottlieb  Před 6 lety

      The spring is part of the clamp - you just kind of expand it until the whole thing comes off, the spring stays attached to the metal clamp, it just gets wide enough to be able to remove it.

    Don't buy it for Samsung! Their wire clamps are to cheap. The points on the tool will slip out of the loops on the wire. Use 2 flat tip screw drivers. Start the clamp on the left half of the boot and put one screw driver under the wire at the 2 o'clock position and hold it with your right hand. Raise the screw driver handle up to lock the wire in the groove. Put the other screw driver over the clamp on the right side of the spring with the handle down. The blade of both screw drivers should be in the groove of the boot. Slowly and carefully slide the bottom screw driver to the right and toward the top screw driver. The clamp will be pushed into the groove. It takes some practice but it works.
