    a great lubricant is windex - super slippery for a short period of time but doesn't remain on the surfaces

Watch for your fingers and pull hard hahaha Good Luck! May the Force be with You!!!

    Spent an hour trying to put that spring back on after replacing the pump. I got so frustrated stopped,, went and showered gave it til today.. Any suggestions how to get the spring clamp back on the outer bellows without this tool?

      Hi Doug,
      When putting the spring on the outer Bellows near the door it’s best to lubricate the wire with liquid detergent. Then you put the top of the wire at the 12 o’clock position on the bellow rim and then using your right and left thumbs you push down and out toward 8 o’clock and 4 o’clock to stretch the spring and then push it over to 6 o’clock position having a friend help to get the spring over the 6 o’clock position is good.
      Sometimes I use a standard head screwdriver to help as a lever to get it to go over the 6 o’clock position.

    I had some luck using zip ties around each end of the spring and then screwdriver handles to get a grip on each side to expand it. But the pliers would be easier.

    • @JeffStieglitz
      @JeffStieglitz Před 3 lety +1

      @Haiti News Info Haiti News Info Two zip ties. I thread a zip tie through each end of the spring, then put a screwdriver handle in the loop made by each zip tie. I can then grip the screwdriver handles and pull on them get enough force to stretch the spring. This worked for me because it does not need any special tools. Without the zip ties, I found it was just too difficult to stretch the springs - If I tried to use my fingers the spring would just slip out of my hands before stretching at all. The special spring expander tool is available on Amazon for as little as $14 but I was impatient. Just look up "LG Spring Tool". I suppose snap ring pliers would work but I don't have those either.

    That tool will not work on some LG washers (like mine) because they have a type of spring that needs a tool which hooks into each end of the spring and expands it from both ends of the spring. I found one online but it didn't have the 90-degree angle in it which makes it impossible to unhook the spring that is located behind the gasket. I'm not even sure that type of tool is sold, so it's looking like I'll need to take apart the whole washer.

      The LG spring has the loop on the wire which makes this tool work. On a Bosch washing machine it doesn't and is a bear to replace.

  • @daveyboygee
    @daveyboygee Před 5 lety

    OK got the tool, albeit "used once", and it doesn't close far enough to make the spring hit the top hook!
    This procedure is frustrating and seems like a poor design. Hopefully, with the help of a needle nose pliers, I can get the dang thing back on...
    Also I'm noticing, Scott, that you never actually release the spring from the tool before putting it back together. That's the hardest part! Either way, your tool either has a closer span or your spring is looser. Just sayin'.

      @@Gromitdog1 yes, I bought a TSE1 Tension spring expander tool on ebay for 1/2 the price. If you look around on Ebay you can find it for less than $30. They have it on Amazon for $50. It says it's for Whirlpool but works for LG. There's videos on here on how it works.

    I tried to use these pliers for no less than 5 hours...with no luck. I could never get the loop in the spring over the hook side. My "hook" was actually just a piece of the wire that protruded up. I ended up having to take the machine apart and using two sets of pliers and my herculean strength to join the sides. I don't know if your spring clamp was different than mine, but you made it look easy. I could never replicate it. Very frustrating. Sending the poorly designed pliers back to Amazon. It was neither fun nor easy, and you described.

    Have you looked at the price of these spring clamps? Most run near $100 bucks for a tool which the average homeowner would use just once in a lifetime, anyway. Not sure why they are about the price of a bar of gold, but unless you are doing boot removals on a daily basis, this is a tool which will remain in the bottom of your toolbox for darn near forever. It works okay, but the high cost is simply not worth purchasing for the average DIY person. Windex is indeed a good lube to use and doesn't leave any residue like dish soap may. It really shouldn't take much, either.
