This guy is an absolute mad man.
You do not need to take your washer apart to install this thing... Just do from 4:00 minutes to 5:50 minutes with the door still attached to the washer

    • @jefesanchez
      @jefesanchez Před 3 měsíci

Yup. Just did it. But by leaving the door on, you have to be careful that the door doesn't fall off completely, along with the inner glass panel. Second set of hands needed to hold the glass in place against the outer door frame while you fiddle with the spring, rod and latch. With the trim screws removed, pry the trim wide enough (not off completely) to access the latch assembly area. It's a little tricky this way, but much easier than taking the washer apart like in the video!

But I am glad he showed how to take off that front panel anyway, because I might have to replace the plastic counterpart of the lock as well (the part with the switch). And that can only be done with the front taken off. Great helpful video. Thank you a bunch.

Or, save a bunch of time and headache by leaving the front attached, leaving the door on, removing the trim screws, pull the old latch and the trim will separate. spread the trim wide enough to pull the latch pin. Replace the latch, pop the trim on and tighten the screws. Takes about 10 min and you can leave the dryer in place.

Hahaha I was thinking the same thing. Why did this madman take his washing machine apart? Pad the billable time to customers by 500%??

Charging by the hour is for suckers, because you make less money the better you get. But yeah, taking the panel off is just begging for trouble. The more disassembly, the more chances something goes wrong.

I was so glad I watched this AFTER I replaced mine just to check that I had the spring oriented correctly (I did) because when I pulled the retaining pin the broken latch hook and spring fell out and I had neglected to take a photo. What I learned was if you are doing it the time efficient way of not removing the door, have a second set of hands to hold the glass in place against the outer door frame and take a picture of the orientation of the spring/latch hook early on in case it falls like mine did. Of course with this video, you can see the proper spring orientation at 5:10 in the video.

Todd, mucho thanks for your reply....I asked the same question before I read your comment. Good job. Now wondering why Appliance Parts Pros haven't responded to your reply.

This comment is correct. One thing on my washer that I didn’t realize is the spring load mechanism only functions when the plastic pieces are pushed back together.

Hello everyone, im a 15 year old boy and the other day I broke this exact little piece. I managed to remove the front part of the door, and with my dad’s help, buy the piece and reattach it to the door without going through this whole process. I cannot begin to describe the relief and joy when we tested the machine and it worked. All this comes to show that if I can do it, you probably can too.

Definitely not necessary to take the washer this much apart for just the hook.

I wish I would have read the comments first as I just completed the entire process as shown. I was successful but would have appreciated not pulling the top cover off and taking the door off. At least I know more about washing machines now 😊. Note that my unit required and offset screw driver to remove the screw behind the drain box which was a pain. Also the Strik is slightly different on my model. For $12 part on Amazon I replaced the locking mechanism as suggested by others while the door gasket was off. The old one had a piece of the damaged strik in it.

I just want to replace the door latch hook so why do I have to take the whole bloody thing all apart? Can't I just leave the door attached, unscrew the nuts then slip in the new door latch, replace the screws? Much thanks as I need adult supervision.

I don't know why you would take the door completely off? I did it without removing the door, much simpler.

Unfortunately some models you do have to take the whole thing apart in order to change that part out. Our videos are just to help give a general idea on how to the repair as well.

Why not take the unit to the shop
Just in case and maybe to the manufacturer
And make sure its secure using a phillips screw driver

This is insane and DO NOT do it this way!!! As others' have mentioned simply leave the door on, remove the trim and replace the part. Literally, a 5 min job with an electric screwdriver (10 min with a regular screwdriver)!
