Rep. Porter asks CFPB Director about her agency's educational program

- In her second hearing before the House Financial Services Committee this year, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Kathy Kraninger tried to out a new program aimed at educating consumers to detect abuse on their own.
So Congresswoman Katie Porter asked her to do some math on a disclosure for a financial product.
Just like consumers aren't expected to decide for themselves whether their water is safe to drink, they shouldn't be expected to distinguish among financial products, when some are potentially toxic.
How can we expect disclosures to be enough for consumers, when the CFPB Director can't do the math on one of these disclsoures herself?

The thing is, she has weeks and sometimes months to prepare for her questioning and expect the answer she wants to hear on the spot. It’s akin to an ambush tactics if you ask me. And if the target is smart enough to dance with her, she “Reclaims her time” to shut up the target. But I do respect her looking out for the Average Joe.
@@RhumRunner41 agree with this fully. In this case, she goes to her old tactic of "you're the CEO/in charge, you should master this". Does the CEO of a hospital necessarily have to master every surgery out there to be good at his/her job? The CEO of an NFL franchise, the best football player on his/her team? Different skill sets for different jobs.
@@TomA1984 and it's also the other way around. The CEO has no idea how to run the WHO but he was successful in his own fields of research. But no experience at being the head of a global organisation. Of course there will be limitations on what you know and it's all down to experience in the end. Well for us normal people.
Pro-tip to fellow wealthy people out there: when one has an actual public service job, one must learn to understand the work one does. "I have people for that" is not an acceptable response.

She will probably serve a few terms as a representative, and then will end up writing a textbook on how to properly represent while in Congress, and when she is finally elected President, she’ll enforce future Congress members to read her book as a prerequisite to serve. In contrast, Kraniger's predecessor , Richard Cordray, earned a Master's in Economics from Oxford & served as an Ohio State Treasurer. Both of them have law degrees, but Kraniger appears to have been selected by throwing a dart at a list of names...
