Margaery was not out-smarted by Cersei. Cersei tricked the high sparrow, but Margaery's mistake was telling everyone that Cersei was behind all of this, she is not used to impulsive decisions by others or surprises because she plans everything beforehand, so when faced with such a shocking and reckless plan , she did not know how to react accordingly. She knew exactly what Cersei was trying to do, even knowing that cersei was probs going to blow them up, so she looked back at the high sparrow with a "what have you done look" before relaxing and meeting her end.

What I really love about Margaery's costumes is that you can also see Olenna's influence in them too; her Valar Morghulis one for instance is very reminiscent of what her grandmother (and arguably one of the greatest players of the game) wears, though far more revealing lol. I also love that she has thorns around the exposed parts of her midriff too: a 'look but don't touch' effect.
I imagine Margaery's frustration at having to wear that blue dress in late season six. She's got moral (and fashion) police at home and probably had to go along with what they were dictating, though I think she'd pick the fabric herself, because it looks lovely. And I'm glad she got some of her distinctive style back on her final day: I love the Green Trial dress.
On the other hand, her fashion phase I'm less fond of overall is Season 5. I understand the rationale behind her wearing Baratheon colours - to show (and rub in Cersei's face) that she's all in tune with her husband - but I think there should have been more green, to symbolise who really holds the power in the couple. Michele Clapton explained that the teal and blue hues from previous seasons were meant to look less threatening than the bold green colour of House Tyrell's sigil, so I think it would have been appropriate for Margaery to incorporate that rich hue once she truly came into power.
On a side note, I bought Margaery's rose ring in silver years before the show even came out because it looked lovely. Now that she's become such an inspiration in my aesthetics, I've taken to wear it so often it's actually left a tan line. :D

I think that Clapton decided that Margaery doesn't have anything left to prove now that she (was formally) queen, but I def get what you're saying. You ight have noticed that her grandmother Olenna also moved in the same direction until her family died.

That funnel dress was crazy for any GOT character. It’s fun to follow her through the costume changes. Great job.

Costume CO I couldn’t agree more. It would be like wearing a Mohawk.
A Mohawk might work if you're a Wildling.
I personally think Margaery’s funnel dress was interesting, but done with the wrong fabric and color.
If it was done with a solid burgundy color with a wool-like texture instead of the patterned fabric that was used, and maybe if at the top of the shoulders the silhouette curved inwards a little, I think it would’ve worked better.
But I can see why some didn’t like that silhouette at all.
If you want to know why certain colors are used with the Tyrell's outfits you should probably go look at a video than analyzes the Tyrell family as a whole. There are reasons to why certain colors are seen throughout their time on the show. Fabric is the section I can not give any hints on. :)
I kinda think they tried to remake it with cerseid purple wedding dress. It hat a similair Collar but was finished much more beautiful and fitting for the time

Maybe, although it's unclear if and when Michele Clapton knew how far in advance things were happening in the story. Dave and Dan could have told her.
I think i watched this one the most! When I graduated I inspired by Margaery's wedding dress, so I adorned my grad cap with rolled silver roses from a rose brocade fabric!
I wish wish wish we would have seen Margaery in complete green and gold!

Your videos made me appreciate the costuming of GOT even more than I already did. I especially love how they re-used costumes or showed how just adding a scarf or belt changes the look enough to make it unique. It probably wasn't their intention but it shows how combining basic items with different accessories is enough to make up an entire wardrobe.

Its amazing how much work her Joffrey wedding dress was. It turned out beautifully! Also, Margaery's last dress always stuck out to me due to the beautiful drapery on it that softens up her even more.

Great video. I was always a fan of Margery and the way her fashion adapted to the situation, even the final ones. The only dresses that didn't work for me though were the funnel dress and both wedding dresses.
Hi Grace! That's interesting that you don't like both wedding dresses. I think that sometimes Clapton is a bit on the nose with her design, so I can certainly see why yo'd think that.
her wedding dress concept is so cool .. she didn't look like a meek royal rose in a feminine dress full of flowers ... she looked like a true queen of thorns , dangerous and seductive
Can I just say you're a cosplayer's dream. I see articles all the time talking about costumes from movies and tv claiming they have the insider knowledge and where they boast all the detailed embroidery or how they used a special fabric, but they never mention what the fabric actually is or anything about the actual construction and its so frustrating when you're actually trying to do research for a specific cosplay or trying to learn the technique used. And here you are giving the people what they want!! Thank you!

One of the guys on the now defunct What the Flick? called Margaery in her funnel dress "Taquito Queen". Really, she along with Loras Tyrell and Euron Greyjoy all benefited from "new season" rethinking as they were all misses the first time around.

@@Costume_CO I think he only wears that once and I can sort of see why he would wear such overly elaborate and ostentatious armor if he's in a tournament and not actual combat, but I'm thinking more of his wig as part of his costume. The next time we see him, Finn Jones is wearing his natural hair and he just looks and moves completely differently from the top down. He almost comes off like a new character than a returning one.

@@Costume_CO To clarify, I am perfectly good w/ effeminate gay characters if that's supposed to be the character, but even as someone unfamiliar with the books, it seems clear that when S2 went into production, that the showrunners came to the conclusion that they needed to pull back on his willowy twink look*. More importantly, the wig just looked ratty and cheap to me. I remember the moment I saw the character, my eyes when straight to his head in a bad way.
*They may have also received fan complaints, as I now seem to recall some book readers objecting to Loras on the show as the character is apparently more butch in the books. Don't quote me on that.

Costume CO I did enjoyed it a lot, I wish there was more information about her last dress because it's my favorite but I loved the comparisons between Cersei's dress and Margaery's
I couldn't find anything on her last dress! I tried to find the fabric but it wasn't at any of Clapton's usual shops. It's very likely that April Ferry designed it bu sadly she has done no interviews about any of the costumes that she designed. My favourite of hers is Sansa's turquoise velvet direwolf gown.

I wonder if the near-identical dress remake for Sansa's wedding was to match her grandmother and brother's outfits? They don't have the same patterns but the darker blues and golds are almost identical and the coordination makes them look like a strong family unit.
So by the sounds of it, the costume designers knew she was going to "die by wild fire" - hence the blue/green colours?
Yes, that's excellent foreshadowing. Although, that might be a George RR Martin thing. Did he designate the colours for the families? I'd heard that they used the sigils that George designed.
Another delightful, insightful video: thank you! I simply do not believe that Queen Margery would 'experiment' with something as ungainly and ugly as the funnel dress. This was a peculiar designer mistake. But all of Margery's other dresses are enchanting.

Yes! Clapton has also stated that it was built on a base, to give it more structure.

Well, the scarf I think is sort of a golden brown according to the pictures I have. But in the show its possible that it looked bronze.

On another note: I’ve just finished watching the awesome HBO series POSE (set in 1987-8) NY, USA burgeoning LGBTQIA scene. Where beautiful TransWomen and TransMen walked competitions, *POSING* , and *VOGUING* (yep, as in, “In Bed With Madonna” Vogue!) in amazing costumes, to win trophies for their “Houses” run by their “Mothers” and “Fathers”. It’s based on true events of the time.

I must admit, House Tyrell costumes are unappealing to me. The colors are bad, and the flowy material doesn't work well and could have been better.
