Bear McCreary using the Hardanger Fiddle in "God of War"

Nordic folk music tones are often sought after when conveying the sounds of adventure and fantasy.
The game is heavily based on Norse mythology, and similar to The Lord of the Rings, which also draws strong inspiration from Norse mythology, the developers of God of War enlist Nordic folk musicians to provide the soundtrack with a Nordic cultural foundation.
The music for the game is composed by Bear McCreary, who also composed the music for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
- God of War was the first project I did for Bear McCreary, and I recorded much more for it than I did for The Lord of the Rings, says Olav Luksengård Mjelva, explaining that the music is somewhat in the same vein as the music for The Lord of the Rings.
The game was released in 2022 and has won awards for Most Wanted Game and Most Anticipated Game at the 2020 Golden Joystick Awards and PlayStation.Blogg
