"Perfect Tommy give her your coat. Why? Because you're perfect. You've got a point there." How can you not love this movie, and yes I saw it in the theater!
Yeah, I saw Buckaroo in the theatre. And yeah, if you don't love Buckaroo, we can be friendly acquaintances, but we can never be real friends. 'Hey, Hey, Hey. Don't be mean. We don't have to be mean. 'Cuz remember, no matter where ya go, there ya are.'
I met him at a comic con in 2003, he was so cool and was always ready to say a few lines from Highlander, Starship Troopers or whatever. And he was such a deep voice. But oddly enough more people were asking him to do mr.Krabs or the guard from Shawshank Redemption.
There are actors in this movie that I have followed for their whole careers just because they were in Buckaroo Banzai. Clancy Brown is a legend and I hate when he's the villain in movies.
Been having all these Buckaroo Banzai documentaries popping up on my CZcams lately. Well done algorithm. Best thing about it, sounds like everyone had a great time making this film. Nice to know, because I always have a great time watching it.
From the moment I first read about Buckaroo Bonsai in Starlog Magazine, I knew I had to see it once it released. It definitely did not disappoint. Funny thing is, in the early 80’s, we weren’t even phased by its wackiness. It made it that much more awesome!
I've always laughed at the people who after watching the movie say "I don't get it", it's like "Look, it's not Dr. Zhivago, what's to 'get' is the individual zany gags and one liners".
Not just that "If there was one time in my life..." that's a damn strong statement. Out of everything in his whole life, which a hell of a life, he chose then. I would give anything to have been a part of that production or even to be in the world that saw this movie gain its proper due upon release.
Take a risk, do something original, and keep the budget manageable. Out of control budgets driving for a billion dollar hit mean too many people are involved and only let you do what worked before. So: remakes and sequels.

And of course as Mr. Krabs. Talk about a real actor. Clancy is the real deal. That he wasn't SEIZED upon as a supporting actor on "The Expanse" is beyond me. But I LOVE THIS GUY and always will.

@@Joemckenzie-85 Oh, his voice acting is endless and wonderful; always a treat to recognize his voice in something. I was utterly thrilled when they brought his character from "Star Wars: Rebels" into "Ahsoka" just so we could get a little bit more of him.
What a wonderful interview. Amazing how Buckaroo Banzai and Highlander got made in the studio system. Clancy Brown acted the heck out of his characters. They won't greenlight projects like these movies anymore. Maybe on Netflix. The coke must have made executives more open to say "yes" back in the day.
Yeyo would be alternated with qualludes/weed to come back down. Name your adult beverage as a nightcap. I'm just speculating here, since my own memory is fuzzy. Saw this back then, but the number of great actors in it who went on to real success is amazing. Still waiting for that sequel..
Anybody who has worked for a boss that depended on them, to be the rock (as they say in the video) of steadiness, they *get* the character of Rawhide. And a guy like Clancy Brown, being tall and deep voice and what have you, rarely gets to be the hero role. He's usually the heavy, which is understandable. But Clancy Brown makes Rawhide a guy you *know*, to where Rawhide's death at the end actually affects you as losing a friend. Everyone in the movie is just well-cast, it doesn't work without them.
I got a kick out of this video because I actually got to talk to Lewis Smith about "Buckaroo Banzai" years ago while on the set of "Django Unchained." It's always been one of my favorite movies, so it was a trip talking to Lewis about it.
