- How HARD to Open Tail Lights?
I'm pretty decent when it comes to a dremel, ultra sonic cutter, or these Milwaukee Multi-Tools, but I never know how hard a new tail light will be.

I did stay to the end now I not sure if I want to do taillights
Hey man, watched to the end lol 😂 probably the best of your videos I've watched yet! Cheers man 🤜🤛
Its all trial and error on tail lights. I usually paint the lip on the inside black the reseal give a good line on the outside. I use a dremmel and cut wheel. Just take ya time.
Awesome video as always chris. Learned so much from you. And yes stayed to the end.
Loving all these videos you're putting out. Definitely watch the whole thing all the way through just like I do with all of them. I did know about the three different types and I've had experiences with two. I'm still waiting on the video to show how to reseal the lights. I've got my way but I would love to see a professional like yourself do it and adapt it in my projects. Thanks so much for all the information and experience you're putting out in these videos
good info on the tail lights, cant wait to learn more
Made it to the end. After cutting mine open in a very similar way (minus the broken lens) I have a new appreciation for the work put into custom lights.
I'm going through this with some 2018 Ford edge taillights, very helpful.
Great video as always! Using this as a reference on making my all clear taillights for the scion. Was just gonna swap the lense over from a spec D housing but now I may have to rethink my strategy 😂
Every housing is a different puzzle. Some just need more effort than others 👍
I just used a dremel on a defective light I had laying around, and I had no issues. This was on a 2009 Mercedes ML63 tail light
thanks for the candid vid Chris! I will use it to justify my tail light pricing. THESE CUSTOMERS JUST DON,T KNOW THE PAIN!
Stayed to the end.. Always.. good video..👍🏼
The struggle is real on Tail Lights...i had gone through a set (350z) before getting better and wiser so i totally get it.
Awesome video bro, thanks for sharing, Im about to open my set of Scion FR-S Valenti Revos to put my clear OEM lenses on them, any particular advise besides being careful? 😅 Do you have any video taking apart any Valentis?
Cheers bro! From PR!💪
Thanks man for all the free info State all the way to the end
Nice work bro especially on the tail lights my son and I well my son likes working on the tail lights so he's happy to see you doing some tail lights thanks again GB
I stayed until the end just to see the end result. Love the videos
I did stay till the end. I just got a second set of taillamps to work on. 3 out of 4 sides look easy but the last side has a trim in it a lot bigger than the one that is on that lamp. Am I supose to cut off the trim or is there another way? I have a dremel with a flex cable btw
darkflames1284 on BRZ tails I just cut the bigger section off and added it back when I resealed.
What about evo x tail lights, will that be a oven method or a cutting tool?
Wanting to do my kuga rear lights but unsure how to start have taken pic but not sure what’s best way to tackle it
I stayed to the end and I really want to take a set of charger tail lights apart and see how they work and are built so I can see if I can do anything cooler with them but just not with my tail lights. lol! I'm trying to find a used set off of a wrecked charger to experiment with first.
3 different types of tails 🤔 nice to know, haven’t messed around with the tail lights yet kind of excited to start something on my Ram Rebel lights with the ghozt module. 🙃
Why did you cut open jdm tsx tails instead if usdm ones
I do vw tail lights from late 90s. They are glued together or moulded together I'm not sure. But the bond does not soften up with heat. Instead I go around between the lens and bucket with a flat screwdriver and give a little twist / pry. I've cracked a few so I know how it feels. But I think I've mostly mastered it now. Can usualy get away with only a few little cracks like the first one you got. Little hairline ones. Love the channel
Watching you do this makes me feel like a fool for not wanting to attempt my obs F-250 taillights. ✌
Stayed to the end. I have a set of is300 light I have been racking my brain to cut how you have or cut the ultrasonic weld. I think you have a very strong argument about cutting on the inside of the ultrasonic weld.
Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge! #AlwaysVeryInteresting 👍😎👍
usually sand and lick with a torch to “gloss” it back, takes a lot of time to get it, “eh” and yes almost impossible to get it to stick back together, what i’m going through with ford lights except it’s not sonic weld but rather a weird glue that you heat and cut with a knife, it sucks
Yeah man, it's such a different ballgame than headlights. Its like Headlights were put together in a way that you feel like you're supposed to get in there and change stuff, while tail lights have all these warning signs, like "DO NO TOUCH"! lol
ain’t gonna stop us though is it lol
Interesting, didn't know about these three types. All thought it's was like the GTR ones, straight to the oven haha
Samuel Perez I wish lol
Ultrasonic knife FTW
Lamborghini lights? Which vehicle? I’m trying to open LP640 tails right now. By far the hardest lights I’ve ever attempted to open
Thankfully the tail lights on my car were just glued shut like headlights are and I was able to just bake them apart
sinformant sooo much better!
So, easier with dremel?
Yes to all your questions, but love to still learn I can always gain something new
Finally a Cl7 taillight video🤦🏽♂️
Apparently American Honda did NOT want that tail lamp to separate from its lens. EVER
I stayed till the end and got the point, taillights are expensive to work on
I didn't think that there was three types of tail lights well I do know no more about tail lights I would probably broke it to
Great video I love that I am pretty good with that tool already but I made a video for you to check out with the blade replaced with a razor to make cleaner cuts hope you check it and it helps had to use this method for my g35 tail lights and u should definitely look ay diffent Blades there are some cool new shaped that might also help cut better
Checked it out dude, good job slicing that side marker open! The more I think about that giant clunky multi tool I have with something even more sharp and dangerous on the end, the more that $1600 pro grade ultra sonic sounds like a bargain, lol. I can't afford to mess up my hands these days, and I swear I'd get a nice hardcore cut if I had one slip up! Great idea, and great job though bro!
@Sivarao210 Prorez i deleted the video but if u search razor blade on osolating tool u can see some videos of how i set it up
Hey drangonball super in the background 😎😎
I was wondering who'd see that, lol
What if you wetsand the plastic with a high grit sandpaper? Kinda like when you redo headlights to remove the scuff
I've done that. My friends car had the tails spray painted black when she got it. We wet sanded and polished with polishing compound
That's where a dremel and polishing bits come in to play. 👍
Do the G35 coupe tail light
I have some internals from a set of those. I need to sell em, or do a G tail light job for sure.
looks like a nightmare to open
Do g35 tail light halos

Luckily I was able to finish shooting just now. Will see if I can get it posted after I get home and settle down
