  • This series of videos is designed to get you into the FPV Drone Hobby by keeping things simple. In this episode I explain the differences between Digital FPV and Analog FPV. CORRECTION - In the video I said the prescription lenses are not available for the DJI Googles. That is incorrect because DJI and other companies now offer a basic prescription lens option.

    Update:
    Now their are more than one digital Goggles manufacturer.
    Their are walksnail HD0 and DJI all are good but have different strengths.
    Then in the newer analog goggles you can adjust for your specific eyesight wright in the goggle menu.

    I highly recommend to start with analog. Crashes DO happen. Learn to fly first, then about upgrading. These FPV race/freestyle quads do not fly like a DJI mavic, really, they don't...
    Another thing, do people new to this hobby realize it's the Gopro on top that gives the nice HD footage you see al over youtube?
    I can imagine no one want a analog system when they think only to have crap footage in the end

    Thank-you for putting the series together, Cap! This is exactly where I am at. I've been flying Camera drones for a few years, and teaching that and coding with drones to 4th & 5th graders. I've been wanting to try real FPV for a while, and expose my students to it, but had no idea where to start. You're helping Me to understand it much clearer, and that will impact my students as well. Thank-you so much!

    It's a race quad Steve! Lol! multigp.com is the best place to start! Go to a race and watch pilots fly the course and talk to them about the hobby! It's a fun sport that's growing slowly, but it must be approached with safety & caution...racing a flying lawnmower at 80mph+ around race gates can be dangerous! Bring a pair of Goggles to a race, you may just hurl!! Ottawa Muliticopters is the chapter for you and Andre'! Please support your local hobby shops!

      I had to pick one name to keep things simple, which is "drone". Quadcopter, Quad, Race Quad, Freestyle Quad would just be too confusing to people getting into the hobby and around the world people use different names... but all governments call them Drones, so I stuck with that.

    • @williamdecker3989
      @williamdecker3989 Před 3 lety

      I honestly like Captain Quad better! Just bustin' chops, trying to "keep it real"for your audience. Many guys that I race with, can't stand the term "Drone". DRL changed that for some. When I think "Drone", I think of the Predator war drone, or a DJI product. I own 1 Photography drone and 30+ FPV racing quads. multigp.com

    Thanks!!! Learning so much with you, I know thats you are establishing the difference between this two aspects of the hobby, but there are some hybrids, were you can experience both worlds, like a mavic air or some models of DJI that can be used with FPV googles, if you like a camera drone but will like to have a more smooth FPV experience without the worries of learning how to fly a real FPV drone, thats seems to be difficult and requires a lot of practice and props. For example I wish that the mavic air 2 could be use with FPV googles, and for me it would be the perfect combination, a good camera drone and the introduction to FPV, and may be in the future enter the racing category, but my budget just let me 1 category at this moment. Excellent video!!!

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798
      @CAPTAINDRONE798  Před 3 lety +2

      When you put on the DJI Googles (that large silly looking headset that causes women to cringe) and fly the Mavic Air, you are not experiencing the FPV hobby. Think of it as taking your cell phone and placing it a few inches in front of your eyes. The flight dynamics of the camera drone do not change.

    Great video! Very descriptive. One question though. It's 2023 as of the time I'm writing this. I watched another video explaining that with the DJI O3 you can get up to about 14 km of range. That's insane to me. I still only have one drone right now and that's the original dji mavic pro. The range is nothing compared to what I mentioned above. How far does the range go with analog?

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798
      @CAPTAINDRONE798  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Analog all depends on the antennas and VTX power transmitter and VTX receiver. 20 miles is possible with the right gear. Should be plenty of CZcams vids showing and explaining the ANALOG long range gear.

      @ZabDevin Před 3 lety

      CAPTAIN DRONE I had a similar question. I want to use the DJI FPV Goggles + DJI camera + TBS Tango 2 controller w/Crossfire + Crossfire receiver. Is this still considered all digital? In the video you implied that only the full DJI setup (e.g., goggles, controller, camera) is “digital.” I want to use the Tango 2 controller w/built-in Crossfire because it appears more ergonomic than the DJI controller, cost less, and I believe the Crossfire system has a longer rc range than the DJI controller. I like the DJI goggles and camera because of digital and the longer video range (4K) of OcuSync 2.0. Do I need to buy any other components (modules) other than batteries, blades, etc? Please clarify because I am ready to pull the trigger on this drone and I don’t want to buy the wrong equipment. I am an experienced drone flyer but new to FPV. I like the long range capabilities and GPS of this drone, in addition to the ability to do freestyle stuff. Best of both worlds. BTW, I have watched many of your videos in this series. I love your channel!

    One thing that I'm slightly confused by after this video is what is the point of the GoPro on the drone? Like if your not a CZcamsr or something, why would you need much footage from your flights? And if you do need footage, is there not a way to record from the main drone camera so you wouldn't have to mess with a GoPro?

      Because GoPros have much better footage quality if you intend on taking quality video recordings

    Loved the episode, but I was wondering are you going to provide links to everything ie. batteries, chargers, power supply units, and just all the other most people don't assume you have to buy separately? Because, when I first started getting into this no body told me that i would have to buy a battery and charger for my flight controller ended up waiting quite awhile for something that i just assumed would come with my purchase from buying almost anything else.

      Yes. My plan is to give options in many videos on what to purchase. The options will all be items I own. This way if someone follows along, it is simple or if they have a question, I can then give an answer.

    Analog is what I might go with since it has less latency and I fly planes too and cheaper

    Hi Captain Drone! Is there an episode that tells u how to fly these fpv drones please? because the only drones that I have flown have been DJI drones & they just about fly themselves but I bet these f.p.v. drones are much different to fly! 😀👍👍

    What is the best all round lipo battery charger to purchase. I am a camera drone pilot expanding into FPV and going digital. I am wondering what a great smart charger would be or whether I should get a parallel board to charge up to six batteries at once? It might be a good topic for one of your videos too.

      Fantastic! By the way, I'm a fellow Canadian follower of yours who lives in Hamilton Ontario. As a camera drone pilot I had loved your stuff, but your Vlogs on FPV quads caused me to expand my hobby to include FPV quads . I ordered my first drone from Rotor Riot in the Orlando Florida so that they could build it and tune it for me because I don't have all the tools and accessories yet. Keep up the great work. I love your content. Bill Bailey, Hamilton Ontario

    DJI's racing goggles can do 7km with ocusync versus 4km for digital version (don't know if 7km is acheived via analog, frequency, antenna, power, or something else).
    How realistic is going out pass 4km (regardless of legalness)?
    What's it like going out > 4km < 7km?
    What is analog (2.4 GHz) like pass 4km?

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798
      @CAPTAINDRONE798  Před 3 lety +1

      You may be mixing something up. The range on an FPV drone is based on your radio communication system. If you wanted to fly 20 miles you could with the correct setup. Also the DJI racing goggles are your occusync remote control placed on your forehead with your phone display place in front of your eyes. Essentially DJI just took the remote control and display and put it in a head unit. This is why DJI does not refer to those goggles as FPV goggles.

    Quantum Cyclops analog diversity DVR box goggles are the best entry level/ but still most pro features and function for about$100.00. Or if you are just like me and want good quality and function, just because you are poor and cheap then you still want the quantum cyclops diversity DVR box goggles 🤣! The only other good options for people who are in the same mindset are eachine ev100 or eachine 800dv something or other which have a little less features in some ways but different qualities just the same. Hope this helps someone, I really love my cyclops tho I can't see spending more money than that when you can get it all right the 1st time.
