  • Chile is incredibly rich in fresh water and minerals, yet it is facing disaster. Flood, drought, and fire are becoming more and more common as the country experiences manmade desertification.
In this webinar, graduates of the Water Stories Core Course Ayün and Lucia of Ruka Ngen Walle ( / rukangenwalle ) and Tepual Ecosystems ( / tepual.ecosystems ) walk us through these devastating changes and explain the many challenges Chile is facing today. They offer a bright glimpse of hope through their personal experiences empowered by the course.
Ayün Jesus Vega and Lucia Vink steward land in the central region of Chile, where they’ve built a permaculture center called Ruka Ngen Walle. This property is living proof that we can reverse desertification by slowing water down and holding it on the landscape to allow it to infiltrate into the soil. Ayün, Lucia, and their volunteers have been hard at work transforming their land into an example. By focusing on water cycle restoration they’ve captured all the rainwater that falls onto their property for the benefit of their gardens and grounds. They’ve installed a system of vernal pools, infiltration basins, swales, and Zuni bowls, with spillways to lead the water between them. They provide a great examples of what is possible when you harvest the rains creating beautiful water retention landscapes
Their efforts have produced an abundance of healthy unirrigated gardens and even rehydrated a seasonal spring on their property! See what these two students of the Water Stories Advanced Core Course have accomplished in just 1 year, seamlessly integrating their dreams of health and abundance into their landscape.

The art they have added into the design can be seen. I see it with zach and sepp and now see it with you. Outstanding!

The problem is identified clearly (water privatization meaning that there is no way for water rights to be stinted during drought years, nor is there a way to compel engineering works to let rivers run again), and a hoped solution is identified too.
