Last round has to be a 10-8 in modern mma scoring. Idk about back then, but by today's standards it looks like a pretty clear draw. Dan 1-3, Shogun 4-5 with a 10-8 in 5

Now I can say there's one UFC fight that came close to the Shogun vs Henderson fight as being amongst the best UFC history and that honorable mention goes to heavyweights Mark Hunt and Antonio Bigfoot Silva their first bout was a bloody 5 round war that ended in a majority draw but it's definitely up there with the Shogun vs Henderson fight no doubt
@@dayshawnbryant8778Bigfoot is well versed, just limited by his silly oversized build. People probably quite enjoyed learning to fight a man like Bigfoot. Unfortunately size isn't a factor as much at this level, Bigfoot did get repeatedly punished and eventually disrespected. Oh well that's the gamble of anything showbiz, sucks he had to bleed for it though.

Hendo was and is my all time Favorite fighter, the power he could generate from basically any position was unreal.
Hendo would have a much better fighter if he had worked on his footwork more.

It feels like an eternity from when Shogun resets at 20:25 to when he throws the uppercut.
This is as close to a draw you will ever get, Shogun lost the first three rounds but made a heroic comeback in rounds 4 and 5 and should have been given a 10-8 in round 5. Two of the greatest fighters of all time and probably the best MMA fight ever.

He was on top the entire round but really inflicted very little actual damage. I feel that may be why it wasn't a 10-8. The rounds where Dan was winning he did so with big big damage. The last round they were both so gassed that I just didn't amount to anything much.
Shogun might have gotten a 10-8 in round 5, but Hendo likely got a 10-8 in either round 2 or 3. Either fighter could have won, and it was damn close to a draw. Absolutely legendary fight.
This fight is so good you can make a case for either fighter winning.
Agreed. Just think since Shogun showed up for the championship rounds he should win. Judges should look at that. Round 4 & 5 are a big deal, especially the end of round 5. If a fighter is being dominant at the end of the fight that means he won the fight. Just not with judges scorecards; but in real life that’s how it works.

*I will never, EVER forget the moment and night I watched this live. It was so thrilling and exciting the entire way throughout and it is my favourite fight of all time. I was so badly wanting Hendo to win and was glad when he did. Both of these fighters are legends and Im so glad they got the respect they deserved. On the 10th anniversary of the fight I remember just feeling so nostalgic, like it was hard to believe its really been 10 years since it had happened….*

As a Brazilian, I was cheering for Shogun..but I had great admiration for Den Henderson and I always considered him a Champion of UFC, even tho
he never made it. As for Shogun, he was just named to the Hall of Fame 2024, for his heroic battle in this fight!

I'd only seen highlights of this fight up until now...I can't believe how prolonged the Henderson onslaught was and how Shogun survived the way he did. Beginning the 4th round Rua's face was such a mess but he had much more left in the tank and all of a sudden it's Henderson's chin and ability to survive being showcased. Amazing man, possibly the last great fight fought by fighters of their generation who came into their own in PRIDE. Ffs Dan was so gassed towards the end of the 4th round he didn't have his hands up. Dunno how HE lasted. Thought he died of exhaustion
Like yourself, I think I had only seen clips of this one. I might’ve seen it in it’s entirety, but if I did, it was a long time ago. They both expended so much energy in that first sequence, and then settled into the slower pace for five rounds. It seemed to flow back & forth, with a cycle of offense, fatigue, and recovery. Such a fun one to revisit, and I like your observations & sentiments of how special this one is. A great representation of their era, and helped to grow & popularize the sport to where it is currently.

The amount of damage shogun delivered in the first half of his career is only rivaled by the amount he received in the later half. Both hendo and him are legend of the mma golden era.

Yep, inside leg kick followed up by an H BOMB or a take down. It was incredibly effective earlier in his career because if you anticipated the takedown and dropped your hands he would take your head clean off with a right

Dan Henderson competed in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 1992 and 1996 Olympics. He wrestled collegiately at Cal State Fullerton and Arizona State, winning the university Greco-Roman national championship in 1991 and 1993-94.

Hendo is one of the greatest ever. Shogun took at least 50 KO punches in this fight that would've yet survived. They delivered one of the best fights despite past their primes, just amazing!

This was the Greatest fight in UFC history and the judges robbed Shogun. Should of been a draw.
