The guy failed on the first 2 attempts for the backflip at the end of the fight. Pushed the guy walking in the octagon to dry his hands off and went for it again. Nailed it. This pretty much sums up Gaethje as a person. If he's able to walk, he's going for it.

I used to big flips off of sea walls at the beach. After about 500 or so I finallover rotated a front flip and broke my big toe lol . That's why back flips are so much easier . U land on your heels & not your big toe
This is one of those fights you show new fans and they fall in love with the sport immediately. Even the leadup promotion was legendary.

8:46 really feels like a big momentum shift. Michael hits Justin with some really big shots, but Justin just instantly starts walking him down again. As Michael takes a deep breath and retreats back toward the cage again, I almost sense a feeling of dread from Michael, like "I've hit this guy with everything I've got, how is he still coming?". Then it turns out to be the beginning of the end for Michael. This fight never gets old, all-time classic.
It was at 9:08 when Michael pieces him up for the final time but Gaethje won the next exchange at 9:12

Hats off to Michael Johnson for making it look easy standing toe to toe with Gaethje. I would imagine that Gaethje was impressed and perplexed right out the gate when he stayed in the pocket while Johnson snuck in some blinding fast punches proving to Gaethje that he came for a war. Classic.

This is what a win looks like when a camp comes up with a winning strategy and runs into tremendous opposition and while making subtle changes, sticking with attacking that lead right leg and keeping the fight standing. Hats off to both fighters and congratulations to this young man in his debut
