    Note on the subtitles:
    I am a French learner myself so I frequently make errors when I'm speaking. I try to highlight these errors in the subtitles by putting errors in red and corrections in green. However these subtitles have been written by me, so there are potentially also mistakes in the subtitles and corrections!
    Hopefully errors will be infrequent: you should check the comments section for corrections that viewers suggest, and consult a French teacher if you wish to be sure that a certain phrase is correct.

    Salut Aurella.
    Bonne continuation !

    I've looking into my French heritage, but I've been told because he was a Huguenot, there aren't a lot of records left, most of them were destroyed during the prosecution of the protestants. But he is the reason I have been studying french on and off for the past 40 years.

    I’ve been watching you a little while now and your French seems to be improving quite a bit. You were able to speak so quickly, in my opinion. I’m also learning the language. And I got my Ancestry DNA done very recently... 97% Eastern European... no surprises haha.

    Je suis americainne, mais l'histoire de ma famille est Huguenot. J'aime genealogie, but no one else in my family really cares. I get a lot of eye rolling when I start talking family history.

    Very interesting! I love all those "Who do you think you are" type of shows and one day would love to get stuck into researching my family history. Does it cost a lot?

    • @FollowMyFrench
      @FollowMyFrench  Před 6 lety +3

      Hi Claire!
      A lot of information is available for free online but knowing what's available and how to use it can make it tricky and time consuming which is where websites like Ancestry come in which offer a lot of tools to help organise your research and expand it. I tend to use a mix of free and paid sites.
      I'm currently paying about £14 a month for an Ancestry subscription which gives me access to all the UK censuses, parish records etc. To some that might be a lot but I don't go out clubbing, buy designer clothes etc, so I see it as my hobby and leisure. Often you can get quite far back with just that subscription but sometimes the information you need isn't available online and you need to order certificates to find out names/birthday etc which normally cost between £6-£15.
      It can get more expensive if your ancestors span across more than one country and the further you go back it can be harder to find records and the harder it can be to find proof that someone is a family member, meaning you may need to physically visit places to get information. If you want more information than just your ancestors birth and death dates, you might want to pay subscriptions to newspaper archives and stuff like that too, which can make it more expensive.
      So I guess in conclusion the price depends on how far you want to go back, how in depth you want to go, how much proof/certainty you want and luck of your ancestors info being in the free online archives.
      Whoa, long comment! - Hope it helps anyway!

      @clairefox7107 Před 6 lety

      Wow! Thank you so much for the information and such a detailed comment! I agree that £14 a month on something you enjoy is totally worth it. A lot of people say that same to me when they find out I'm taking 3 language classes a week - but wait, doesn't that cost a lot? And I reply the same as you - I don't go out clubbing, I can't remember the last time I bought clothes and I cut my own hair lol. It's my hobby so for me the price is worth it :)
      Are you planning on doing more videos on your family history?

    Bonjour Aurella,
    Réaliser son arbre généalogique, demande beaucoup de travail, de temps et de patience.
    Car il faut contacter tous ses proches : frères, soeurs, enfants, petits-enfants, parents, grands-parents, oncles, tantes, neveux, nièces , cousins, cousines, arrières grands_parents, etc.
    Super, tes vidéos utiles et sympathiques ;>)
    ------------------------------
    Hi Aurella,
    To realize his family tree, needs a lot of work, time and patience.
    Because, it's necessary to contact all his family : brothers, sisters, children, grandchildren, parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, cousins, defer grandparents, and so on.
    Great, your useful and nice videos ;>)

    • @FollowMyFrench
      @FollowMyFrench  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi Luchii, you have to do research to build you tree which involves collecting records about when people were born, got married, died etc. The most popular website for this is Ancestry. They often have free trials available, so you could build your tree for free and look for other people researching the same tree - they could be related to you!
      Alternative is to take a DNA test, for example with 23andMe, or AncestryDNA and look for DNA matches in Australia :)
      Hope this helps!

    What do you use to edit your videos and put the subtitles in?

    • @FollowMyFrench
      @FollowMyFrench  Před 6 lety +1

      Hi, I use Cyberlink Powerdirector to edit. The program does have a special feature for subtitling but it doesn't allow me to do two languages and change the colour/bold/italic etc, so the subtitles you see in these videos are just normal text...lots of text boxes.
      It really takes a long time. I would suggest using CZcams's built in CC/subtitle feature instead if you can.
