    My website and articles www.chasinglatitudes.com
Welcome to Chasing Latitudes! Have you ever imagined the smell of the ocean air as your boat crashes through the waves? The freedom that comes from casting off the bow lines and heading out to sea to explore new places you can’t reach by car or airplane? Then this channel is for you.
You will not see white sand beaches here, restaurant reviews, beach parties, selfies or Japanese knives. What you will find is factual information based on decades of sailing experience.
My channel is specifically meant for one thing and one thing only, to help YOU find your new to you fancy-dancy yacht of your dreams and get on the water in the fastest, most time efficient manner.
Don’t get caught up in looking at old boats! I focus on mostly newer vessels, built in 2000 or later because I want you to spend as much of your time as possible sailing, not practicing your restoration skills on an old boat attempting to bring it to its former glory.
You want to take advantage of the amazing newer technology and modern hull designs when it comes to sailing. This is going to make your vessel far easier to sail solol or short handed and make them far more comfortable and efficient to live aboard full time or even just weekenders without buying more boat than you need.
I offer a wide variety of services including consulting where I will take you through the entire process of how to budget properly, choosing what vessel size will work for your needs, what type of vessel, I will help you shop for vessels, determine offer prices, schedule surveys, talk with brokers, teach you how to do your own pre-survey, walk you through hiring the correct surveyor and help you avoid all of the common pitfalls that you will find when purchasing used sailing vessels.
The consulting does not stop there, I will be with you every step of the way and long after you have purchased your vessel as consulting also comes with lifetime access to the members area,.
Chasing Latitudes hosts a large, active private members area where the members are more than happy to offer their own experience to solve problems, host private videos for ASA Sailing quizzes (ASA 101, 103, & 104), and live stream videos which feature anything from member cruising to boat shopping, boat comparisons, and other live content with chat from the subscribers to my CZcams channel and channel members.
It’s time for YOU to get on the water. Come aboard!

I've been sailing since back in the 70's, and you always show me something I've maybe missed or not really paid attention to b4 because I wasn't the owner, just crewing on real racing and other various boats of acquaintances and friends made all over the place because of sailing. I encourage anyone even vaguely thinking about buying a boat to listen to you!! I mean geeez if "everyone in the market" did listen it may even drive down the absofukinlutely ridiculous prices a bit more!!!! Commiserations to the family, sorry for your loss, great tribute btw. Now get out there! cheers from Fremantle, Australia!

After your last video of this sort, I checked used prices and my heart leaped with joy. Glad to see. There's hope!!! Some ex- charters have " Irma " damage repaired to specs-- should I be nervous about these? Jeanneau 349 would be the perfect size for me-- love, love, love those!! No expiration on the $1000 wow!! Selling my house would immediately solve the $$$. Love the clothes you've got for sale.

With the economic downturn scheduled for this mid to late summer in the United States,So I don’t see an upturn in sail boat prices anytime soon.

As for the american economy, 2024 will be jeopardize when the inversion in the bond market will be corrected. Since 1950, ALL inversion of the 2 years /10 years bonds were repositionned after an interest % drop from the FED. This is coming in the next months. Each time this happened in the past,, a negative correction between 25% to 60% of the Stock market occured. There will be a massive loss of money and jobs since a good percentage of companies are already labelled with the zombi status. We are assisting at the prepared/programmed demolition of the American Empire.
Boats are like planes and exotic cars, they are status related. But what happen when banks credit shrinks, and mid-class boat owners are decimated by their evaporationg profits + sinking credit line, boats price should go down substentially For me, a boat is a way to get out of dodge when SHTF. So I will still waith for a few months for the FED to push the economy over the cliff...

I agree, we live in madness, in Australia we participate in fake capitalism like the rest of the west. Monopolies become efficient business models, as we print more money and steal it from the working population. These boats will be cashed in.

Chris - I am a subscriber and an irregular viewer of your channel. I have read many comments by Tim aka abcgang on your and other sailing channels and am so shocked and sorry at his unexpected passing at such a young age. My condolences to his family and his friends and have made a donation on the gofundme in his memory.

@14:30 "Brokers have a dog in the fight," i.e., they overprice boats to fatten their commission. Maybe, in a sellers' market. On the other hand, underpricing the boat will result in a faster sale, i.e., a quicker and more certain commission. In a soft (buyers) market, expect underpricing will be more likely than overpricing: inventory will be piling up and the brokerage has recurring expenses that motivate it to move boats to new owners. ... A survey of real estate sales some years ago found homeowners got higher prices when they sold their own homes, compared to when they listed with a Realtor. (The survey also found Realtors priced their own homes higher than equivalent homes of clients. Two good reasons for this; they sacrifice a few dollars' worth of commissions to generate commissions quicker, and their clients appreciate unloading the property quickly --- not realizing there is a cost to this, the reduced selling price.)

Love your videos sir! I have learned so much from your content. Next year or at the end of this one I will have enough money to afford a sailboat. Looking at the 40-50ft range and the dream is to first of all sail around the world and then do that a couple of times again. Also sorry for you losing a person very close to you, I know how it feels. Much love and stay strong. And thats for everything else! Happy new year.

Really enjoyable info. I believe your info is for boats that offer comfort and class, seemingly the 35-50ft class with the space to offer layout options for a live aboard. But what happens if you step out of your comfort zone, and talk about a coastal trailer-sailer for only a weekend or week sail? Like maybe the beneteau oceanis 30.1 or corsair 880, etc. where your honest style of critique would be interesting.

Brokers have had it fat and easy for so long the number of them that ever had to do work to sell a boat are probably tiny. Of course they suck at it when times get tough.

Very interesting take on the boat market. Prices already are falling and we haven't had a recession or worse yet. It might not even start for 6-12 month, JMO. Things to watch, Job market, RE prices, Stock market, energy market, inflation/interest rates and the bond market. If these pathetic idiots drag us in to a war in the middle east fuel will go up, inflation and interest rates therefore will follow.
Real estate is at all time highs, stock market at all time high, stocks could keep going for a another 6 months, but it shouldn't PE's are nuts. RE looks like it's getting ready to shit the bed. 34 trillion in debt, probably close to 200 trillion in unfunded debt. If we can't get the other stupid countries to buy our bonds watch out. I'm thinking a real shi show within 18 months or less. We borrow 2-3 trillion just to pay the bills. This can't go on forever. I Hope You are right and I am wrong.
