    seven climbs and a few not categorised like the one after the climb out of Park rash which I did not expect to see a 20% climb to get out of the valley. Have to say it was an epic ride very hot and really windy (nearly blew my bike over at Park Rash and some really fast descents. Shame you did not show the descent after Park Rash more and the 20% climb out of the valley.The Moors on July 8th which is even harder with Rosedale at 93 miles.

      Yeah - I hear the same things but I really like it. It's simple, straight forward and the maps screen is amazing. That's why I bought it - for the maps. The battery life isn't great for audaxing or rides over 8 hours if using the map. But I just take a battery pack along.

      Ahhhh Daniel, you should have come and said hello. Well 'Hello' virtually ha. Yeah that wind was brutal!!!! Glad you enjoyed it but yeah I felt the same about the descents. They are normally the bits we get to have a breather, when yesterday they seemed harder than the climbs. Well, almost 😉

      It's 500km, north of Scotland to the border...nervous! I don't know how you never complain about knee or neck pain-your bike must be made to measure. I just followed GCN's tips for making oatcakes-The gels don't agree with me and bananas get dull. I might even try those wee bars you swear by if my oatcakes fail. It's all good though, nice problems 😁

    • @KatieKookaburra
      @KatieKookaburra  Před 6 lety

  • @333wheeler
    @333wheeler Před 6 lety

    Have looked at the entire "Park Rash" climb on various You Tube channels.. It is pretty scary from a distance out as you close in on the 1st ultra steep section... then it drags on for ever and ever.... congrats for getting up the whole way without unclipping.:).

    • @KatieKookaburra
      @KatieKookaburra  Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks so much, yeah it's so steep at the hairpin and the only other time I did it I unclipped just after the steepest part as I thought it was going to carry on at that gradient. I have to do a climb once and then next time I can generally do it all the way. Apart from Hardknott... !! One day I will crack it! 😊

    • @333wheeler
      @333wheeler Před 6 lety

      Yes Hardknott is whole world of Pain . bad enough but the cars can squeeze you on the narrow bits on busy days as well which does not help when doing a zig zag... You should try the Abergeswyn Mountain road in Wales one day . It includes the infamous "Devils Staircase Pitch" www.dangerousroads.org/europe/wales/3989-abergwesyn-road.html

    Katie i see your running the b&m lumotec with the integrated usb. Great powerful light with free charging to boot!
    Only problem with it is it isnt very waterproof, there's a small hole on the underside of it(to let condensation out, the makers say) , problem is it let's water in too! It starts goin on the blink then, I had to dry it out on the radiator for a few days. Definetly consider put strong tape over the hole if your out in the rain, the spray from the front wheel will hit that hole as well.

    • @KatieKookaburra
      @KatieKookaburra  Před 6 lety

      Dec, you are a life saver! Thank you so much for that tip, will have a look into that. Did you have this one then?

    • @deaglain
      @deaglain Před 6 lety

      I have one katie , after a bit of water got in, I researched online, and others had that issue as well. I thought it was buggered, so got a different light(son edelux 2, which I used on a 600km) which is advertised as waterproof. It doesn't have a USB, the light is as good as the b&m, I was gonna return b&m but It came good again after the radiator, I've been giving the b&m another chance in the last few weeks,(in the dry though). And with that hole taped!!

    Great video Katie - I first came across your channel when I discovered that you'd done the Fred Whitton this year, which I did too. I did this event as well but felt that it was a bit of a grind at times as I wasn't sure whether I'd got the Fred out of my legs completely. How did you find that aspect of it? Did you feel that two weeks was sufficient recovery between two big events?

    • @KatieKookaburra
      @KatieKookaburra  Před 6 lety

      Yeah to be honest I was feeling pretty tired as last weekend I rode my first 400km so could have done with a bit more time to recover haha. Next time a tad more rest I think! How did you find it? My legs felt ok on the climbs to be fair, it was the flat sections in between that somehow felt tougher.

    • @elisgomer7164
      @elisgomer7164 Před 6 lety

      You did the Fred, then 400k, THEN the Struggle? Wowzers. I thought it was a great route; didn't quite have the same fear factor as the Fred but getting up Park Rash without stopping was a big boost. I was ostensibly doing it with two mates, but they started very quickly and I just didn't have it in me to follow - I could feel the rustiness from the Fred weighing me down. Legs came back a bit after I'd told them to go on without me and I got a couple of messages from them later saying "we went off far too quickly...", but I agree, the long drag between Park Rash and the last feed stop (calling it 'flat' is perhaps overstating it) was pretty tough. Do you find you recover quicker now than when you started cycling? I've been cycling two years and my first century was about a month before the Fred.

  • @cyclingninja9677
    @cyclingninja9677 Před 5 lety

    • @KatieKookaburra
      @KatieKookaburra  Před 6 lety +1

      They were both incredible but the Fred it tougher just because it has Hardknott in it and it's the steepest in England. But this has INCREDIBLE climbs so it's pretty close.

    You're the only one I know who talks about climing like it's a good thing. I guess women like climbs because, 1, you're half our size 2. you can bare more pain? I might be wrong, but, tell me, how come you talk about climbs with such an enthusiasm.
    I weigh 90kg by the way. Climbing is my worst cycling nightmare right above 105 5700 groupset.

    • @KatieKookaburra
      @KatieKookaburra  Před 6 lety

      I don’t know I think it’s the challenge, the views and the sweat haha. Also it’s a mindset... if you hate them they will feel harder and you won’t enjoy them. Tell yourself and believe you love them.

    • @kay19833
      @kay19833 Před 6 lety

      I would believe if you loved climbing and weighed as much as I weigh. It's easier to say, "it's just a mindset" when you probably weigh max. 50kg gain 40kg more and you'll know it's not about mindset or anything else but pure physics, gravity fighting weight. Simple.
      Don't get me wrong, I love going down hill on the other hand, and I love everything till 8% gradient. I love your positive attitude too, and just love women that like cycling in general.

    • @gamma_dablam
      @gamma_dablam Před 4 lety

      @@kay19833 it is definitely tougher for heavier riders but the mindset absolutely makes a difference.
      If you dread a climb in the minutes before it is more likely to break you compared to if you give yourself positive reinforcement that you will be fine.
      Strategy and gearing goes a long way as well
