Double Dash!! is probably the least popular mainline Mario Kart title, but it might also just be the best. #retrospective #SOFTDRINKTV #game #review #sdtv
The gamecube was my first console, and this was my first game, I remember playing countless hours with my sister and cousin, it was cool taking turns being the driver and the hitter.
@@iaqh - same with me! MKDD was my first game, and I still play it avidly. (It's almost a guilty pleasure to spend half a day taking out the memory card to Beat it again lol)
Same friend. Sadly, it came out before people learned not to trust IGN, so them giving their terrible opinion made other people have that terrible opinion.
I seriously had no idea people forgot about this. Me and my friends played this all the time. I actually had to rebuy this game years ago because I loved it so much and wanted to play it again. To me this was always the best Mario Kart game because I played it the most.
Also fun note: the Double Dash in the name actually refers to the special startup boost that you can only get when playing with a friend. If you both hit A at the exact right time, you get an extra large startup boost which is impossible to do on singleplayer.
My mother used to play this game with me when I was a little kid. I’d drive and she’d be on the back of the kart tossing banana and shells because it was the only thing she understood how to do. Haha, miss those times
I remember going to a friend’s house who had a GameCube and Double Dash. I played on it and I loved it! It inspired my dad to get me a GameCube with the game and I played it nonstop 👍🏻
I didn't know this was underrated. This is my favorite Mario Kart and am still hoping they bring this feature back. Spend many hrs playing this game. Baby Bowser and the Red Koopa was the perfect combination.
I loved double dash, really great under appreciated game. The single player is hands down the best in any mario kart game due to the unlocks led, character differentiation and strategy with the different kart/character combos.
Another thing about this game is how memorable its music is. You can whistle along to almost any tune in the game. Nintendo always makes class music but they really nailed it with this one.
Honestly, I'm very glad that I grew up with this game and the Gamecube in general. No matter what other games I played in the series (I may have even played DS and Wii more often as kid) , none of them have really captivated me in the same way Double Dash did. That feeling of the satisfaction when we unlocked the Special Cup (miss the days of rewarding unlockables), the music of Yoshi Circuit, Mushroom City, and Rainbow Road, the classic look of the courses, and the menu sound effects, all just take me back to a wonderful time in my childhood. I think 16 courses is plenty considering this was before they added retro stages, and they all just feel so cozy and whimsical to explore. Special items is something I genuinely feel needs to make a comeback in the main games, since it makes character selection matter beyond weight. And selecting different characters to ride the same vehicle was a blast. Realizing just how underrated and overlooked this game tends to be helps me to appreciate it even more. My sentiments here also apply to Mario Party 7, another overlooked classic of mine. I could have missed out on a lot of fantastic games if my family was one of many who didn't buy the system, but I'm very glad to be a Gamecube kid. Heck, without the Gamecube, I'd bet my childhood wouldn't have been half as fun or memorable. Now I feel that instead of being upset that Gamecube games are overlooked in this day in age, I should start to appreciate that it was part of my life to begin with, and provided me with the best moments of my childhood.
This is one of my favorites in the series too solely because of how zany it is. It feels like a cartoon and does not try whatsoever to be realistic. Everything is extremely colorful, there are smiling faces everywhere and the animations for the characters are just awesome. Mario Kart lost that quality after this game.
Double Dash was the game I played when I picked up a controller for the first time, not only is it my favorite Mario Kart game, but it's also my first ever, and I couldn't be happier for that to be my experience!
Double Dash is awesome and one I still havent played enough of. Dont get discouraged by the lower views, gonna be a rough transition for the channel but I think your new content is great, and it's important that you do stuff you actually want. You'll get through this ❤🔥.
the drifting mechanics was absolutely Phenomenal!!! Since there was less corning commitment you could have preform U-turn drifts on a dime which can save you from A LOT of screw ups. Own this game since I was 13. 18 years later still wish I can still play it once more.😭🤙
It's underrated because the learning curve for this game was steep to master and Gamecube had below average sales compared to the Wii. This game running on 60fps helps its legacy though.
Double dash was my first ever Mario Kart, and I remember it very fondly because of that. I'd still rather play double dash than any other Mario kart (except for maybe Mario Kart Wii, I loved that one as well)
This game along with Mario superstar baseball NOT Mario super sluggers for the wii are 2 of my favorite games of all time. Would love to see you do a video of MSB👍🏼
Nice video! Any chance for a SSX Tricky/3 Retrospective? They’re some of the best sports games on GameCube IMO - just above MLB Slugfest and NBA Street. EA’s BIG lineup was something else. Just pure fun.
Here is what I would love for Mario Kart. Title: maybe SUPER Mario Kart Double Dash or something like that. Customization: customization for each combination of characters and vehicles should be different from others, having their own unique parts to choose from. No two combination sets being alike. Each two characters get a variety of parts and paint jobs to choose from. Coins: Still function in the racing like in 7 and 8, but also, all the coins you collect in the race will also be used as currency to buy more parts and paint jobs. Courses: Like in 7 and 8, but also maybe add in eventually almost if not all the courses from all past games. And maybe some courses if not all of them go through changes during races Special Items: Special items should return. Like the bros' fireball bursts and Bowser's giant shell and maybe nee special items for each character like Mario having a cape feather to fly over everyone and gain a good boost in speed. But it would only last shortly or til you slam the ground blowing away all around you. X3 Stats: Stats should also be able to be tweeked some after you select your vehicle parts. Like say if you want to reduce your weight for the sake of more handling or your traction for better acceleration. But only a limited amount to keep the game balanced. We don't want the speedy cool vehicles like b dasher and P wing to suffer like they did in 8 Deluxe Trophies: For More difficult classes you finish and win, the trophies should get bigger, shinier and more detailed. Most importantly, it needs to have all karts bikes mtvs and combos worthy of being awesome in competitive online. Speed vehicles being REALLY speedy to make up for low acceleration. And MAYBE a decent mini turbo in case they get slammed alot. Also keep 200cc and all cup tour
I would go to my best friends house after school many days and we would play All Cup with his dad and another friend. And let me tell you his Dad was a competitor, we would even keep track of all-time standings! Edit- My best friend and I would always choose one of the koopas for the triple red shells and use the bullet car, best combo imo.
Almost 20 years later, and it's still my favorite Mario Kart
Same with me

18 years later, and We STILL need a sequel!
I would be satisfied with double dash being an extra game mode.
Nah,after this game,we got better mario kart tittles like Mario Kart DS(the reborn of Mario Kart),Wii and 8.

the drifting in this game is just perfect, it hasnt been the same since
I think Mario Kart DS did it better, but Double Dash is second. After DS it just got too easy.
@@triple7marc Double Dash blows Mario Kart DS out the water, tf you talking about? 😂
@@cottonisbaked Double Dash is too slippery of a game. DS has snaking and you cut inwards off a drift making tight turns hella fun.
@@triple7marc Double Dash being slippery adds to the challenge and excitement! Plus who wants to play Mario Kart on a handheld? Thats wack lmao
@@cottonisbaked I disagree. And a lot of people based on the critical acclaim of that game lmfao.
This game reminds me of my childhood... the smell of my room when I was a kid and the emotion of coming from school to play with my gamecube
Double Dash is incredibly underrated 🔥🔥🔥
An underrated entry in the series. The music still slaps
Double dash is a very underappreciated game. Thanks for giving it some love!
I seriously had no idea people forgot about this. Me and my friends played this all the time. I actually had to rebuy this game years ago because I loved it so much and wanted to play it again. To me this was always the best Mario Kart game because I played it the most.
This game actually changed my life. Only game I've been consistently playing for almost 20 years. Besides Mario Sunshine.
Also fun note: the Double Dash in the name actually refers to the special startup boost that you can only get when playing with a friend. If you both hit A at the exact right time, you get an extra large startup boost which is impossible to do on singleplayer.

This game was just perfect, I miss the 2 player coop so much!
Double Dash needs to be brought back somehow, its one of my favorite games in the Mario Kart franchise! Great Video as always!
Personally, Mario Kart DS and 7 are my favorite Mario Karts but Double Dash is still a very fun game to play.
IMO 8 deluxe is better
Is 7 that good bro?
Wii was the best imo
Mario kart 7 was my life from when I was like three until I was eight.
@@carsoncottrell4435 agreed
I just had a dream the other night where I had to beat some aliens at this game in order to save humanity
