Actually, hearing it was a fake anime in a movie first makes sense, because it 'looks' like a fake anime you'd see in the background of a movie or tv show. Anyone else? It's got a very 'videogame cutscene' vibe going.
"I am bringing actual science into 'Space Travelers'?! And whhhhhhy?!" Because of pain, Sage. You sir, are a masochist and love the pain. Your long catalog has proven this time and again.
Space Travelers joins the illustrious hall of fame of fictional anime with luminaries like Gekiganger III, Gintaman, Kantam Robo, GaGaGatchi and Admiral Geroro.
Fun fact: Rambo was named after Rimbaud, of whom creator David Morrell is a huge fan. The choice was also likely inspired by Rimbaud's work as an arms dealer in Ethiopia (and ally of Menalik I in his war against Italy) later in his life.
"What are you delivering? *long, awkward pause "Our last hope." *long, awkward pause "Well, you can't deliver it if you die, can you?" *long, awkward pause *guy walks away "No, that's true." *scene cuts away just before he realizes that the other guy has walked away and he's now talking to himself.
I actually like that the ship, both pre and post-transformation, had absolutely no business flying anywhere but in space. Function over form design is always amazing to watch.
This morning I discovered that water line in building I don't go in often burst and water had been spraying for a very long time. With nothing I can really do about it at this time this video helped cheer me up after a full day of anxiety riddled work. Thank you Bennett, for all that you do.
Is it wrong that I kinda wanted more from this anime? Like in spite of its genericness, it makes me think of the shows I've seen on Kids' WB in the early 2000s, and so it has this weird nostalgic feeling to how it looks. And sounds, I guess, thanks to the dub giving me nothing but Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh flashbacks.
I create a comic once called Space Traveler. He had a ship I designed from a triangle (like the drafting tool) and a robot companion and he was an intergalactic adventurer for hire. I was 10.
Yeah that transformation sequence really sunk home that "Fisher price nightmare" joke. It really does look more like playing with Lego Technic peices than metal ships combining. But hey. Everyone likes legos
I am sure you get 20 bilion requests to talk about Bastard!! OVA but honestly that would be so amazing. Also you really have good voice for audio books
Nice work Bennett! Looking forward to hearing about Nemo, which I saw but don't remember very well. Not sure if you're your own video editor now but it's good work!
Just think about it they were a bunch of men with good relationships with each other that had to endure months of sailing enduring not only pure boredom but also harsh cold. They would have probably done that every now and then.
Halo Arrays are Niven Rings, but the structures in Gundam and Mass Effect are O'Neill Cylinders. Those are an actual propsed space colony design from the mid 70's.
Maybe I'm just going crazy, but the animation feels uncannily similar to the 90's Spider-Man cartoon. Something about the linework and sort of jerky animation feels so familiar. But from what little information I can scrape together, the studio behind this had no hand in Spider-Man, though there was another Japanese studio that worked on cartoon (Tokyo Media Shinsha).
4:12 Does anyone notice the quality of the animation of the intro looks completely traditional and non-digitally animated? It's like the anime was made by two different and seperate studios.
Good Lord this was a funny episode! What a great Episode, Sage! I loved it! I can't say enough good things about your hilarious, entertaining show! I'm a long time fan my main man! Frank! TV's Frank from Mystery Science Theater 3000!!! "In the not too distant future! .."
The Penguins of Madagascar TV series had funny a bit where the smart one responded to the request of 'tell me something I don't know' with 'without mucus, your stomach would digest itself'. Neat. ^_^
5:38 Is that the va of that trainer that had a gyrados from Pokemon the First Movie? (That, or the one with the venusaur... point is, I swear I've heard that voice before.)
have i ever seen a more generic cast in any anime? yes. half of the anime coming out through the 2000s to today. especially the ones taking place in high school where everyone wears their uniform all the time and is drawn the same. this is actually pretty great character design bearing this in mind.
Actually, hearing it was a fake anime in a movie first makes sense, because it 'looks' like a fake anime you'd see in the background of a movie or tv show. Anyone else? It's got a very 'videogame cutscene' vibe going.
They could do same with fake anime from Akibaranger and make it real.
I'm reminded of the fake anime in GTA4 now.
........That shit was goofy.
This looked more like an American cartoon I would watch on a local station on Saturday mornings or weekday afternoons. WOW was that specific!
"I am bringing actual science into 'Space Travelers'?! And whhhhhhy?!"
Because of pain, Sage. You sir, are a masochist and love the pain. Your long catalog has proven this time and again.
but if he also gets off to the suffering of the characters wouldn't that make him an S&M in one?
Tom Tinker Then he is what is known as a switch lol! Sage the Switch.
The Sins of the sisters episode also proves that.🤣👌
The character designs remind me of early 2000 cartoons making fun of anime.
The intro of an Anime having better animation than the Anime itself is nothing new.
Or American cartoons in that matter. 80's Thundercats comes to mind as example of cartoon that had better intro than show itself.
FullmetalNinja25 I can agree to that, especially with bleach naruto shippuden and the ever so boring fairy tail 2014 anime.
*cough* berserk 2016 *Cough*
Or the anime Gangsta.
Anyone gonna mention that the orchestral score is waaaay above the caliber of the anime itself?
dajolaw Pilot Candidate also had a great orchestral score.
dajolaw huh neat
Yeah, I noticed it too - the score sounds awesome!
Kinda wondering if the score was lifted from another project.
Those ships look like Gummi ships from Kingdom Hearts.
Charlene Alyssa Ingram very true
not to be confused with the gummi ships in grand thrift auto
After someone got drunk while playing and adjusted the ships.
I would love a Married with Children spinoff of Psycho Dad.
Married with Children? Psycho Dad? I don't like how that sounds.
This thing looks like a mid-90s Saturday morning cartoon, and I love mid-90s Saturday morning cartoons.
kelly beck I thought the same.
Yeah, it's like the 90's Spider-Man cartoon.
Is this a Tomy Wiseau production? I mean with the stalled inhuman movements and all...
Oh hai Space Travelas. I did not shoot them I did naaaatttt
Hey Beardface, how's your sex life?
The world will be in eternal agony without FRANK.
We would remember you Frank Miller
I was wondering “Why does the green haired kid sound familiar? I know that voice from somewhere.” Turns out the voice actor also did Gary Oak.
The character designs look like the ones you’d find in those how to draw anime books at Michaels and dollar bins
Clearly Frank was the true main character of this anime.
16:45 - Jon Freeman. Saver of Humens. Had to Kill Fast But Bullets Too Slow.
Never Forget.
Never forget. ✊️
Space Travelers joins the illustrious hall of fame of fictional anime with luminaries like Gekiganger III, Gintaman, Kantam Robo, GaGaGatchi and Admiral Geroro.
And from The Simpsons, "Battling Seizure Robots".
Live Action Fist of the North Star....I've been waiting for years now since you teased it. FEED MY CAMPY ADDICTION!!!
You don't have wait to be dead...
Because you already dead.
Benevolent Veteran nani?!
Fun fact: Rambo was named after Rimbaud, of whom creator David Morrell is a huge fan. The choice was also likely inspired by Rimbaud's work as an arms dealer in Ethiopia (and ally of Menalik I in his war against Italy) later in his life.
Cool
This is easily one of the funniest episodes of the show yet. I absolutely lost it when the guy exploded in the apartment building.
Holy crap... Psycho Dad! I havent thought about that one in years!
Now I want to watch married with children... :(
jmalmsten I don't like how that sounds.
jmalmsten
My example would have been The Simpsons and Itchy and Scratchy. Although that kind of became a real show too.
If ur up at five or six o clock watch it on t.b.s
Holy crap, that readhead girl.
It's the ONE legit good thing about this. She's crazy, but at least she actually GOES for it.
Mesousa Gaby Which one?
Hayden Hyde: I'm guessing it's "Generic Anime Heroine #264" (Irene Bear), although Not!Fujiko (Gold Papillon) is OK, too.
I imagine the only thing going through her head as she's shooting is just her yelling "BANG!" over and over. XD
"What are you delivering?
*long, awkward pause
"Our last hope."
*long, awkward pause
"Well, you can't deliver it if you die, can you?"
*long, awkward pause
*guy walks away
"No, that's true."
*scene cuts away just before he realizes that the other guy has walked away and he's now talking to himself.

Thank you Bennett, for all that you do.
14:56 He was comforting the missile after the loss of the universally beloved Frank.
2 minutes in, and I think you sold me on the live-action Space Travelers Movie.
Also, 5:35 Hi, Ted Lewis.
Is it wrong that I kinda wanted more from this anime? Like in spite of its genericness, it makes me think of the shows I've seen on Kids' WB in the early 2000s, and so it has this weird nostalgic feeling to how it looks. And sounds, I guess, thanks to the dub giving me nothing but Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh flashbacks.
..........Am I the only one getting The Real Ghostbusters vibes here? Can't quite put my finger on it but damn.
I create a comic once called Space Traveler. He had a ship I designed from a triangle (like the drafting tool) and a robot companion and he was an intergalactic adventurer for hire.
I was 10.

I am sure you get 20 bilion requests to talk about Bastard!! OVA but honestly that would be so amazing. Also you really have good voice for audio books
Tonka Babić bastard was some good shit
I gotta re-watch that.
That was so good, there is also a similar one by the same people called Bakuen Campus Guardress.
Bastard!! is awesome in my opinion.
CornishCreamtea07 U I will check it out
Hands up if you're actually old enough to get the Married.. With Children/Psycho Dad joke! Haha! ...we're so old.
Is the blue haired dude Crispin Freeman?
jereluv34 Yup.
Wait wait wait.....
Is that the narrator from the English dub of "Record of Lodoss War"?
I can't hear his voice without anticipating an update on the Marmo invasion.
*sees new upload*
Me: Eh, who needs sleep?
A WTFBoom? Good heavens what is this, 2006? Is adamwestlapdog and Unwardil going to just crawl out of the woodwork all of a sudden?
Rimbaud reference Bravo sir Bravo.
Props for the Space Ghost coast to coast clip! And looking forward to the next episode.
Nice work Bennett! Looking forward to hearing about Nemo, which I saw but don't remember very well. Not sure if you're your own video editor now but it's good work!
Do ghost stories next
@kevin willems are u a Dan harmon fan? I know he didn't come up with the term but it was one of his catchphrases
Rambo was gay?!?! Everything I know is a lie
nonono, the real response to learning he's gay is: "oh, so THAT'S why he's called RAMbo."
Well then to put your mind at ease just try to think on how most Vikings probably had frequent male on male sexual entercourses
What? ( spy from tf2)
Just think about it they were a bunch of men with good relationships with each other that had to endure months of sailing enduring not only pure boredom but also harsh cold. They would have probably done that every now and then.
What are you talking about
Little Nemo's next!! yesssssss!! such a cute little movie." :3
10:44 It’s funny. I’ve never actually seen Gerry, yet I guessed what movie it was before Bennett said it, purely through reputation.
References on point this episode Sage. Missed the opportunity to make a Vega/Claw joke though.
Looking forward to next review.
Looks like it was made for an American audience.
oh crap once i thought i had gotten that david spade scene "get it got it good" out of my head. you have to do this to me
oh man I forgot about Brody quest man that shit was funny thanks for bringing that back up
I would like an edited version of this show and see how much time it would save
the halo ring isnt exclusive to halo since they copied it from Larry Niven's Ringworld to begin with
Lifesizemortal Gundam copied it too
Benevolent Veteran and mass effect... and elysium
Your nerd is showing. ...
Halo Arrays are Niven Rings, but the structures in Gundam and Mass Effect are O'Neill Cylinders. Those are an actual propsed space colony design from the mid 70's.
9:38 that quote with the upbeat music was gold.
Little Nemo?! 😃
Finally! Been wanting to see a real review of that for awhile. And no I’m not counting the Nostalgia Critic’s review.
11:50 You made me spit my water in laughter XD
The ship had a transformation sequence into another ship, I can't breathe!
Why did the intro to the anime give me Star Trek flash backs.
17:49 - OH SHIT! THAT ONE?! My VHS nostalgia is burning....
Anime Abandon: where you get learn about real people, animals, and science in your anime reviews.
"In the not too distant future! .."
Huh, I wondered what had happened to the UK's drug advisory service hotline...
Jesus, the OVA has more pauses than a Pinter play.
The Penguins of Madagascar TV series had funny a bit where the smart one responded to the request of 'tell me something I don't know' with 'without mucus, your stomach would digest itself'.
Neat. ^_^
At least the 'Zeriam' movie got released in the states. Also, nice 'Married With Children' reference.
miss the old intro
5:38 Is that the va of that trainer that had a gyrados from Pokemon the First Movie? (That, or the one with the venusaur... point is, I swear I've heard that voice before.)
sages tangent on frank is like, the best thing ever.
11:50 Oh god, having Marville #2 flashbacks!
11:51 WELL, THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY! XD
have i ever seen a more generic cast in any anime? yes. half of the anime coming out through the 2000s to today.
especially the ones taking place in high school where everyone wears their uniform all the time and is drawn the same.
this is actually pretty great character design bearing this in mind.
The intro music sounds like a homage to the themes from The Onedin Line and Black Beauty - The Series.
Who is the dude that did the intro to this anime. He is also the one that did the rather long Intro the Record of Lodoss Wars. I love his voice.
Life is funny sometimes, for just last day we were discunsing the origins of Little Nemo in class.
They're obviously delivering a space ball. I mean, GAWD, Bennett!
Little memo is next huh. I’m curious on your opinion on it.
Hey dude, im going to A-fest, heard you were going and found you on youtube,I was wondering if you are doing a panel?
Rimbaud is actually one of my favorite poets. I love the segways.
10:23 yes, I've already known that and have also read some of his poetry it's just that I don't act smug about it.
13:39- This sounds like words that would've been said in in the possible funeral of Goro from Darling in the Franxx...
My quest is to write Psycho Dad. Must ... sell.... script....
@11:52
Best editing ever!
🤣🤣🤣
11:53 This clip is from the _Space Travelers_ anime? I've seen it in other reviews so I'm curious if that's right.
5:58 what are those animes? I know Sage reviewed them, but I can't remember their names.
I mean, on the off chance you review YGO: Darkside of Dimensions you could bring those guys up again too.
Hello poyo!!!
hi kirby
This is kirby
This is kirby on drugs, questions ?
I'm on team Kirby
Nice Half-Life Full Life Consequences reference there at the end Sage.
Got... to... love... those... awkward… pauses.
There is a Highlander anime. It is glorious cheese.
Lol the blue haired guy shooting aims the pistol in his right hand and closes his right eye to aim lol
2:35 -- Hands up everyone who caught that riff!
Gavin McInnes video was an ad for the video LOL
With a name like Crush Bomber your know you're an instant bad ass.
10:23 yes... because i had to study that dunce for 2 years in my classes.... thank you for reminding me....
Please review Hon Ran some time in the near future. An awesome 90s anime perfecr for anime abandon
Hey there, do you mind if you could review an anime series based on the light novel series called Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody?
That Rambo joke was pretty great
Okay, the Zorak blinking pause fad me rolling! I miss that show! (at least Venture Brothers is back)
why sage's hand shake like that when he hold the dvd case
Little Nemo?! I watched that all the time. I can't wait.
Little Nemo eh?.... *starts slow dialing the nostalgia critic*
Man, those pauses...

Really make you think.
Is that Tron Bonne's voice actor?
Also nice Master Shake reference.
