He was the epitome of a great journalist/sportscaster. His reports were fact based and never sensationalist for the sake of getting views or reads. Rest in Peace.

How quickly we forget his incorrect reporting on deflategate and refusing to correct it after being proven false. RIP to the man, but i stopped watching espn completly because of his false reporting.

NO SENSATIONAL JOURNALISM?????????????????????Mort was excellent but I lost all respect and interest in him because he did not stand up against something during an NFL draft show a few years back. When Michael Sam came out as the first gay player on the draft board, the ENTIRE draft show was about him.
I do not care about whether a draftee is gay or not.
All of the hundreds of other players were totally ignored during the show, and the lead commentator constantly referred back to Sam.
It was the absolute highlight of the entire show.
Mort was right in the middle of this. I was hoping he would have the guts to say something and continue the show fairly to all the players. But he did not.
As it turned out, all the fuss about Sam was pointless as he was immediately cut and never played a down in the NFL.

Chris Mortenson was someone I trusted in the sports world for news. There are few people I trust for any kind of news. Mike and Chris are yet another two people I trust. And I think that’s why it hit them so hard here. They relate to and respect what Mort did for decades. Really great tribute here guys 🙏🏻🌟

When I was a kid I remember thinking that "old" people always seemed sad. Now that I'm into my fifth decade in this world, I think I know why. You get to a point where the number of people who mean something to you that are leaving your life, whether it's friends, relatives, or famous people you watched for years....that number just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

We have better in depth reporting in sports news than regular news. Mortensen was one of the reasons for that.

I’ve only been into the NFL the past 11 or 12 years, so I didn’t really catch onto the magnitude of Chris Mortensen’s contributions, but given how much I love this show and watch it religiously it makes me appreciate how great he must’ve been to evoke such emotion from these guys. Made me emotional. May he rest in peace 😢

Just for completeness. Will McDonough was the first "insider" but he was connected to the owners. Slanted but it was good inside stuff. Pete Axthelm (sp?) got a mix of inside info that was probably fed to him and wasn't entirely complete but still good stuff. Chris was the first that did real leg work to get inside news that wasn't all fed to him and was complete and timely. You could tell everyone in the sport liked him and that and hard work was his secret.
