This is so valuable thank you. I know our troubles are nothing compared to the people of Sint Maarten, we are anxious to learn any information about our boat caught in this hurricane. You've been able to capture what she looks like at this point and it is the first information that we have been able to get about her condition. Thank you.
Hi David, I'm a marine surveyor here in St. Lucia that also flies drones! Thanks for posting these videos of the various marinas and boat yards. I find it interesting that the first yard seems to have a policy of unstepping the masts and few boats seem to have been knocked over, whereas the other yards where masts were left stepped had much more damage.
Such a tragic waste of good boats! I can't tell from this what the housing is like, but I'm sure it's devastated as well. My sincere best wishes to all those affected
Did the surge tide and waves strike from this side... ? As is evident from the high grounded old steel tug boat... Would more jack stands and better cross chaining have made any difference, or were they lifted off the supports ? What percentage was the total loss after the damage event ? Empathy and best wishes to all those recovering from...
Airport runway in the background is aligned west/east. Predominant winds came north first, then south after the eye, bringing the surge with (probably 10 ft. at the highest). You are right: good cross chaining helped. I'd say total loss were 30% of the fleet (roughly). But 100% of the yachts were damaged one way or another.
Hi David, i'm an NL creative boat repair person.. is there any way for me to obtain a discarded sailingboat? Keep my dream alive.. all the best to St Maarten. Respect. No offence.

Definitely... The secret is to unmast. Unmasted monohulls in both Megayard and Polypat have also very well sustained the storm.

Looks like my neighborhood after hurricane Sandy. There's actually some really nice (at one time) boats in this video. Shame.
Frightening
I guess that most of these boats won't be sailing to the bolero anymore!
