I remember when I started playing strive, literally every Potemkin player told me to just mash and I won't get hit by buster. Needless to say I don't trust grapplers cause of them
potemkin player literally told me, "jumping exists" one day after we played, if that wasn't odd enough, when we played again, he baited me and did that air command grab and the super LMAO
my first experience with Celestial was 500+ lvl Potemkins just spamming my station and telling me "why did you jump" after doing 3 pot busters in a row the first round. It got pretty bad for them once I learned that slide head's late frames don't have armor

As a Goldlewis player, my favorite gaslighting, just FD Goldlewis out. His neutral sucks. 6p beats 90% of his buttons.
Meanwhile his health pool lets him take more risks and if any of them touch you, including defensive 2p's, you'll lose half your health. I honestly think if Goldlewis didn't have a few just garbage matchups that he'd be top 5, even with FD messing his pressure up.
My favorite gaslighting as Goldlewis is "you need to interrupt my pressure because I'm not going to stop being plus" and then I counter hit them and they instantly die.
But yeah, I agree, the only thing holding him back is that some match ups are just lopsided against him and always will be just by design. Zoners just typically beat the slow guy after all.
Im pretty new to fighting games, but Im at Floor 10 with Millia and get kicked out of Celestial a lot, but this character frustrates me to no end. What am I supposed to do when he knocks me down and puts me in the corner and starts spamming the coffin swing? It seems like you just auto-lose in that spot
@@Yvs8962 thats my win condition. Goldlewis does have terrible neutral and defensive options so ideally you dont get put there too begin with.
But the best advice I can give is FD me out and tend towards blocking high, since the low BTs are shorter range. I know its easier said than done since both his k buttons are lows and a good Goldlewis will frametrap in a 2D sometimes. Backdashing after an FD can also be very effective for getting out of pressure, particularly midscreen, but dont do it too often because I can hard call it out.
If you do manage too push me out with FD, be ready to 6P because often my option for getting back in is j.D.
Finally, if he's just spamming the slow, big overhead (it catches jumping and backdashing, and is so plus I can walk back in and f.s if you block) you need to do a long range poke (not sure for Milia, might need too lab it) and interrupt after the f.s. its the GL knowledge check that I rarely see even celestial players correctly play around, and even if they know how by the time they've parsed the correct response I mix up the option and can catch a counter hit, so you've got to be pretty comfortable with the situation . Hell I dont even play around it properly in the mirror
@@Yvs8962 Some followup advice from me. Your main goal in this matchup is to never let Goldlewis put you in the corner. To accomplish this, you'll have to know how to deal with Goldlewis's neutral tools and build a game plan around a hit and run style. As such, this match up will usually be about him trying to engage and you trying to punish him for overextending.
Here are common ways a Goldlewis may try to approach you and how you might try to counter each strategy. Keep in mind that if you're specifically trying to counter one strategy, you will become weaker against another strategy. Quickly identifying the opponent's tendencies or when he switches his strategy, and then being able to quickly switch to your counter strategy on time is the key.
1) j.D - Because Goldlewis's jump is so low, this is an obnoxiously difficult button to reactively anti-air. Therefore, don't react. If you feel like he's going to do it soon, press 5P randomly a few times. If he does do it, your 5P has a pretty good chance of hitting him out of the air before it's active. If you're wrong, 5P is so fast, he is not likely to be able to punish you. 6P works too but if you're wrong you're more likely to be punished.
2) Random behemoth - If you're anywhere around Goldlewis's behemoth range, he might just do it. However, Millia is so fast, if you can trick Goldlewis into whiffing this, you can run in with a 2K 2D as a guaranteed punish and start the Millia blender. Go into training and set Goldlewis to do either 684 or 624 behemoth. Practice both the spacing to be just barely outside the range and the timing to dash in and get your punish. Goldlewis players usually just can't help but do one of those if it looks like it'll hit, myself included. If you can dance around the range, you'll get plenty of opportunities.
3) Dashing up / dash blocking - If they start realizing you're baiting whiffed behemoths, a smart Goldlewis will start trying to take up space instead. If you continue to try to space yourself for whiffed behemoths, you'll walk yourself into the corner and give him his win condition without a fight. Notice when this happens and stop trying to bait the whiff punish. Since Goldlewis is now scared that you're going to bait his behemoth, you'll run less of a risk of running into one when you try to poke him out of his run up attempts. I don't know specific pokes that Millia uses for this but it's probably similar to stuff you'd use for neutral against Sol.
4) Thunderbird (drone) - At some point, he's going to get a drone out in neutral. If you're unable to stop it on time, you should try to use Millia's high mobility and large amount of air options to go over and around him. Try to pay attention to where he is while you're flying around so you can avoid being too close to him as you land. Make sure commit early to the jump before he gets too close because he will absolutely j.S you before you get high enough if he can. Alternatively, though more risky, you can try to Mirazh through it, I think. Test this one in training mode, I might be remembering wrong. If it works, it'll really confuse them because most Goldlewis players expect a jumps or back dashes. Just don't do it more than once to the same player.
There's more obviously but this should be a good starting point. Build upon it as you encounter new situations and lab out solutions to them. As a side note, this comment is the stuff my Millia playing friend does to me at least so it might be more tailored specifically to my style of Goldlewis, but surely something in there is applicable to general Goldlewis players.
