i would also really like the replay system from GGAC+R. being able to hop into a replay and test out block strings and interactions would be so much better than setting it up in training mode. especially if its against hard to use characters like Zato, Happy Chaos, Jacko, etc.

I work at an insurance company as a developer on their multiple platforms, the rushed comment and the one after that couldn't be more accurate.
Usually, as a developer you need to assess a lot of things, to make plans, a roadmap to follow, etc. But the commercial department makes miraculous promises to the clients, and that means that you're gonna take shortcuts, _a lot of shortcuts_ , to make things work in the time the commercial department promised to the client.
Then, of course, _things will look and work like they were rushed_ : "oh but this part isn't working", "this one doesn't look like we wanted", "are the servers down? i'm not getting any response". And as a developer you have to do the equivalent of fueling a jet mid air, which is possible and has been done, but both jets are on fire, and the fuel is on fire, and everything is on fire because you're under a hell of pressure because the commercial department doesn't care about things working for neither the client or the developers, they just want to seal the deal and take the money as fast as possible.

About the Tower System: in other regions, lobbies outside of floor 10 have few to none players, meaning that even if you're at a lower floor sometimes you will have to go to floor 10 to get some matches. I don't think that adding more floors will fix the skill disparity in those regions, but also won't hurt as much.

Regarding tower, this really resonates cause I have to play in a region that isn't mine just to play on closer floors to me. America West Coast isn't as popular as America East Coast so I find myself having to always try and shuffle between servers to find people to fight or I have to just go on floor 9 or 10 when I'm only floor 8 (it feels like over half the playerbase is floor 9+ cause of it, and even moreso when you check park), and honestly I don't know how fighting people of higher floors affects your ability to rank up cause istg when I fight people on the same floor as me it only takes like 4 wins in a row to rank up, but when I'm on a floor that isn't mine it takes like 7 or 8 in a row... Like what?

Big agree on this. Adding more floors doesn't fix the issue, it just moves all of the floor 10 people to floor 12 and makes it seem scarier for new players because there are even more deserted floors.
Adding more floors + putting new restrictions on those floors is a different story though. i.e. easier to de-rank from 11 to 10 than from 10 to 9 or putting a mini-celestial challenge where you have to win maybe 4/6 against someone on floor 11 to get there.

@@sylascole5254 I am. And that is fairly strong when you're in the position to use them, but there are many buttons that people throw against Millia where those special moves are the only real answer. S Disc tends to work against moves that reach farther than Millia's normals and that people tend to spam. Think about something like Nagoriyuki's 2S or Ky's 5S. Kapel is obviously used in different situations from 2k, it's for air whiff punishes and movement. It's pretty consistent at hitting people out of their moves, but it's also consistent at not reaulting in anything because people can get hit 10 times by it practically free of consequence. On the other hand Millia getting counter hit anti aired once is just game over against some characters.
If I'm being real S disc is fine as it is, even if it also rarely results in anything. Kapel is more frustrating.
I guess the other comment was more about punishing people who try to reset their pressure, though, so this was all a bit off topic. Millia plays a slightly different risk/reward game than other characters there. 2k2d is very good, but against some characters the risk is significantly higher than the reward, since getting counter hit like that probably means death for her, while 50/50s are escapable (more so if you get many chances to block them, or if your dp limits Millia's mix options). But unlike most characters she has a fairly safe escape option, I try to FD and then super jump out of those situations most of the time. It's not particularly rewarding, but not very risky either. I feel like Anji players are the only ones who deal well with that and I'm not worried about Anji players because they basically don't exist.

@@welcometovalhalla2884 If your issue is people staggering buttons and you're looking to abare, then you should just use 5k yeah? You can hit confirm like 3 5ks after a dash anyways. I'm not sure what your issue is, cause what you're describing with Nago and Ky isn't a "my whiff punish is weak" issue, its a "that button is very strong" issue imo. The characters that get strong punishment into stable or good oki off of those buttons are more uncommon than common, so I really wouldn't mark 2k2d or 2k in general as the weak button. Plenty of games have whiff traps and spacing setups, and whiffing tip range 2s by Nago is no different imo. I wouldn't be looking to whiff punish but rather iad or something in that vein on read against those if you're feeling risky, or abusing more millia movement until you get a better whiff if you're not.
Her design simply might not mesh well with strive, as far as having a strong neutral and looping oki because the 'good' neutral thing of taking ground safely and moving your opponent into the corner doesn't seem to benefit her as much as other characters, particularly cause of wall break. If all of her buttons converted into her win condition, she would be more annoying to fight than she already is.

There are too many times where i hop into the game excited to play then have to sit through the horrible lobby sometimes up to 5-10 minutes just to get and it kills my drive to play the game. Sometimes the station I’m at gets bugged out and doesn’t let anyone accept matches. Sometimes it does that weird countdown thing before telling me the matchmaking has stopped. The five things I really want by far in strive are:
    - Instant kills, I don't even want them because they are competitive, but because they are fun and over the top.
    -frame data and an easier way to spectate matches that have already started in a lobby;
-make it so different characters have different floors, maybe set a minimum of 2-3 floors under your best character but I always feel kinda bad picking someone new at floor 8-10.
    - to add the GG xx Korean ost among the tracks I can choose in game, I love them and while I know there were some issues for the rights, I'd love for them to fit them in.
    - More story content! At least I'd like to have some side stories that shine the light on some of the characters that didn't participate in the main story, like may, Faust, ramlethal, baiken and anji (I know anji is present, but he really has just two neat scenes and that's it).
I'm probably in the minority, because I don't necessarily want too many things for the gameplay (because I'm generally content now) but I think these changes would add quite a lot more to strive

What I REALLY REALLY WANT is a pre-download cache option like what has recently been implemented into Warframe. And what I mean by that is the option to download all of the cache as a big one-time update which shortens the loading time so that we're not staring at "communicating with servers" for so long. It's good as an option rather than forcing on players too for those whose PCs aren't as capable. Warframe was a game that was infamous for large loading times (it is a huge game after all with very large levels) and this was probably one of the best additions they added to the game. I don't see why a much smaller fighting game with tiner by comparison level environments to load can't do the same.

I think it's telling that a discussion about the state of Strive in general ends up being almost entirely about the lobby/tower system. Obviously we all want to see the matchmaking errors fixed, but I'd also love to see them figure out a way to have the matchmaking be more streamlined. Clearly they don't want to give up the lobby system, but it sucks that if I go to the tower and there's an odd number of players in the lobby, I have to wait for those matches to finish or someone to come into the lobby to get a match, meanwhile there are probably other people in a different lobby also waiting around for a match that won't get matched up with me because we weren't instanced into the same lobby.
Beyond that, I'm just hoping that they keep adding more complexity to the game the way they have with past iterations. Give characters more moves and more ways to use meter. Maybe bring back burst overdrives or EX specials that use 25 meter. And then tone down the damage just a bit so that we can see a bit more interaction. It kind of sucks losing a round off of two wrong decisions and feeling like you didn't learn anything.

The fact that some players feel more incentivized to just never attempt the celestial challenge and just live on floor 10 to avoid the headache that is Strive's lobby system, loading screens and rating updates feels like a major design flaw of the current system. And that's without even getting into the "floor 10.5" problem a lot of players struggle with.

It might be hard to implement, but I personally liked systems like Soulcalibur and Netherrealms games where they gave different items based on achievements.
It’s made in Unreal, so if the weapons are different assets, it should be easy enough to add different textures for achievements like amount of time played or amount of wins/matches with a character for different material or colored skins. Something to just incentivize playing and showing experience through time not just in gameplay but through character.

The biggest problem with this game imo is still how lacking it is. And whilst the game isnt bad I dont think its core is great either.
Not only is it lacking game modes but some of the characters just feel incomplete and
I dont think saying if there was no tournaments or competitions nobody would care.
I dont think that works because it's not like it's some no name game, and a lot of complaints come from old heads and even newbies not just pros.
Idk to me strive still feels like an average to above average fighting game that really only gets the insane praise it does because Rollback and well its guilty gear the stories always been great and the character designs have always been top tier.

being able to spectate any match and at any time is important. player match is worse than park for friends as well because i don't think you can just invite people off steam on pc, you have to tell em a code and they have to get it right (you can't copy to clipboard either) connect and it's all very tedious, PLUS if host gets poor connection for a brief moment the entire room will disband. Also you can't change room settings mid session in player match either, park is just far superior in general.

There is some quality of life stuff that ive been missing while playing with the bros, such as being able to change my godamm character while spectating, cus everyone is mashing to play in the lobby so theres no time, also being able to favorite some songs and set a jukebox mode to play them without repeating and have a good time listening to the ost while rematching someone.
Also for some reason if you dont mash out of the defeat screen you just cant spectate the next match, staying half an hour looking at avatars hitting each other and life bars going down, so both going back at the same time to the lobby would be nice, and the XRD spectate catch up would be fine as well

Then on the same floor you'll be fighting some guy who has just started off and the game is gonna go "Amazing! Truly a great showcase of agility and skill! To the Final Frontier you go!"
For the OST, Korean version of the Accent Core OST is a banger and we need it in our lives.

  • @113Kyote
    @113Kyote Před 2 lety

There's so many things I'd like them to do or try out for this game. Like adding actual in-game tournaments in, not just the Sony PS4 events. Think of the tournament feature from Rocket League, for example. I don't think it needs to be exactly the same as that, but just having something would make it really easy for new players to get involved in the competitive scene as well. It could make it easier for online tournaments, since you wouldn't necessarily need to go through discord channels or specific websites to join in on private tournaments. They could be organized a different way with in-game settings/rules and could give people a way of participating in more open to the public style ones as well.
Lobbies getting fixed so they are more stable and less stations actively break (which is what causes the failed to connect error and is super annoying with how random and frequent it can be.)
It'd be cool if they took existing features and just improved on them in general, too. We can see our battle records for each character, but sometimes I wish there was even more detailed info there. Like: "How many times have I input *insert move* and then how many times it has hit, whiffed, or been blocked; how much health do I lose on average?" Maybe even little mini descriptions for each of the diamond terms, just so it's easier to understand how that thing measures your offense, input versatility, etc. Right now I think most people just assume if it's bigger at the end of a match that's better, and it's sometimes hard to tell what affects it.
If they improve ranked, I'd like to see an option for us to keep our ranks separate by character. On the one hand it's nice to be able to play against people at your same skill level when you change, but there are times where my skills don't transfer from who I've currently been playing to a new character I've barely touched or put very little time into. When that happens it's easier for your opponent to take advantage of your mistakes, and at the upper levels it becomes very difficult to work around that when you are just trying to learn that character for the first time especially.
Also got mixed feelings about how the current tower system let's you choose which character you are going to fight. Not sure what the best solution for that is thought because it can be useful when you're just trying to get specific matchup knowledge. Maybe they could add something to quick play that lets you enter a matchmaking system where you can just select specific characters to search for in the park, or anything similar to that?
Honestly, I'd be happy if we only just got one of these things or anything in the same ballpark (The new combo maker is pretty fantastic, and I hope they continue improving it as we go along.) The lobbies getting fixed would be great though. That feels like it should have been a high priority for a long while now.

When I fight someone really good I can sometimes get knocked down to 8 and when I do it's massacre. It doesn't feel good playing people on 8, and I and people at my level do get knocked down to floor 8 very frequently. If you play challenging opponents and really try to improve you will get knocked down. Then once you do you will basically wreck a ton of floor 8 players and probably knock them down to 7.

I do think there needs to be something between rank 10 and heaven though, since the people in 10 are either pretty solid with some flaws or people who forgot to get back into celestial, while celestial players are either fighting for their goddamn lives or guys who, while not terrible at the game by any stretch of the imagination, aren't as great as everyone else. People already rematch spam when they find someone good in celeste so making heaven ft3 makes sense. Also with the release of baiken i think more characters need to have specific combos with more variety. Ky's shock state feels underutilized and giving him +r's lightning strike and having it combo on shock state would give him more depth for getting combos in shock state.

This make the system kinda useless because you'll just keep at floor 10 no matter what. At launch, I stayed at floor 8-9, now that I'm at 10, things just got way too imbalanced, I had some guy knock me down to floor 7, only to a few days later a floor 4 guy just taking me directly into celestial qualification, all because there was no one to play at the time.

I agree on the single player content. Something that is kinda simple but could be very cool could be something like Pokémon raids or slay the spire rogue like style, where essentially you have a map to clear with various connected nodes, and for each node you have a different character to fight.
The interesting part would be that both the node and each character (yours and the CPU) have modifiers, either stage wide or move specific, like extended range on one of your pokes, faster startup/recovery, RC costs half or even modifying special moves properties like the nago ultra hard boss fight.
It doesn't have to be too complex but I think already something like this could be fun, maybe adding some avatar cosmetics, badges to show when you fight the opponent would be neat, but I'd just like it as its own thing, that gets harder the more you complete it

The rank/tower system I agree with. I have been playing for a little over a month, maining I-NO, and made it to floor 10 because I love the game and playing with I-NO, also this is my first ever Guilty Gear game, but upon getting to floor 10, I was smacked down by just Celestial Floor and/or Celestial Floor VIP players. Because I had no idea what Celestial floor was until I hit rank 10 a couple weeks ago and knowing they can come down to Floor 10 and sweep people is discouraging. I remember my LV 72 I-NO going against a Lvl 462 Zato player and I got washed.
Also I would like spectator mode. The best way I think to go about that is, go to the set up where people are fighting, hit the button to interact and watch the match, it would make the game a lot better and give you an idea of what you are up against.
This last thing is mainly for me and something I want since I play on controller and is still learning/getting comfortable with fighting stick. I wish I could have preset controls saved. For example, how I play on controller and how I have my buttons mapped out make it easier for me to use controller, but when I get on the fight stick, I have to go back and change everything from what I am used to and it just makes me stick with controller. So if I could get like:
    Preset Controls Slot 1: Console
Preset Controls Slot 2: Fight stick
It would help me a lot. Probably not going to happen, it’s not a big deal, but I would love to have that option.
But other than that, I really love Strive. It is my first Guilty Gear game and it reignited my love and passion for fighting games.

Well, speaking here don't make me lose karma, so let me tell what I really dislike in this game.
    It's system mechanics.
5f throw invul; 6p ( Having a good 6p can really break some matches ); mismatch hit/hurt boxes; Blockstun
    Let me elaborate.
Throws and throw invul, before it was 11f, could be done in oki only if opponent was really scared, but now, even if you mash and miss it by a frame you will be thrown on wakeup. And it also does about 20% damage of a single throw.
Who here remembers when SFV had a similar problem with foward throws as you could loop on them and do hell in oki, this is not okay.
6p. In Xrd they were incredible anti-airs, here they can shut down entire characters footsies game, if they were to beat air to ground, like, if the opponent is in the air 6p being invul from the knee up as it is now it would be okay, but it can a lot of buttons the way it works now.
Mismatch hit/hurt, some characters have some wild hit boxes that don't look like the move at all, nothing makes me as angry on this topics as Zato's 2s and Baiken's 6H. Zato's move comes from the ground, but hits high, and Baiken's move flips her sword overhead but has no vertical hitbox, like, were the team lazy to reuse the same 6h from Xrd and completely change how the move hits?
Blockstun is really weird in this game, certain moves leave you in a blockstun in a disprorpotional ammount of time, making it hard to punish some moves just because you're stuck for ever in a blockstun and the opponent even get the chance to do a late gatling/cancel and continue an already broken offence.
These are the main changes that I'd like to see in this game. And of course single player content is a sore miss, and a M.O.M mode as well, with good lobbies it could have some M.O.M matches for fun.

Did the celestial challenge about 8 times today. Probably 20 times this week. Losing them to then fall back to F10 is so annoying. I perfect 1 guy in floor 10 and then it's celestial challenge again. These ppl are just too good and they're 1 rank above me is discouraging me so much man

Yeah i hear that a lot from some friends as well. The jump in skill is just too large, and players trying to go up just get used as wall paint. While celestials that gets knocked down take their rage out on the floor 10 players.

Here's the state of Guilty Gear Strive in 2022. The game barely changed as far as how it plays and is just more balanced in some ways. That's about it. It feels mildly, better, but ultimately, it's the same whack ass game it was on release. I'm tired of these people lying after each patch "Durr! It's better now! It's so much better now! But NOW it's wayyy better!" when I step into this game and it's the same shit.

Maybe the best option is to make the floors like SFV ranks in which you have a point system. The only difference is that you add floors below celestial and raise the requirements to achieving celestial with each floor that's added.

What I’d like to see is a Celestial Pass. No, not a way to buy a VIP ticket, just a way to get some games in versus the best of the best, say, with a time limit. Make it last an hour and give them a special aura that lets the Celestials know what’s up.
To encourage ppl to actually play them, award more World Dollars or Exp for wins. Prolly just World Dollars. Exp will get them farmed to move up leader boards. Currently if you get bopped 2 games you’re done. If you can’t play the best of the best regularly, you’ll NEVER be on their level.
Being able to get needed experience would help players on the edge to level up permanently and stop so much bouncing up and down between floors.

Yea I can't play ranked anymore. I'm stuck between 10 and celestial. On top of that the game crashes sometimes when I rank up or down. Put in the long ass server connect times... Kills all motivation. I only play at the park now.
No expectations but if they added like 2 moves to each character, opened up the gatlings, and lowered the damage a little bit. I'd be real happy.
Baiken brought me back for a bit but I'm waiting for slayer really. KoF 15 right around the corner too. There's a lot to play

I've not been below floor 10 since like week 3. It takes about 30 games to get my VIP poster back when I feel like going for it. Then again, I play mostly play May and Jack-O while only playing May in the tower. I feel like I'm "good," but not amazing at Strive. Feels like I shouldn't be able to stay in celestial.

IMO, Strive is totally killin' it. That said, the tower sucks. I just want a normal ranked mode. I REALLY wish we had basic MMR matchmaking. For all its flaws, SFV's got a really good ranked mode!
Player match...yeah, I've set up rooms, looked for rooms, never once had a player match. It's rank tower or get nuked by celestials in the park lol.
The marketing was fantastic. Strive is literally the first time I heard about a GG game before it was already years old. They tossed a wider net than ever before, and the catch was quite good.
I am certain that season 2 will be wacky AF. Also, I'm pretty sure they'll give me A.B.A., Jam, Elphelt or maybe even 2 of the 3.
Would love if they added spectate. Gives a way to learn more in a live setting, but without the zen-melting pressure of trying to not get REKT in the process.
I bought the game just prior to launch and I'm quite pleased by it. Definitely one of the best fighting games I've played.

  • @DuoMaxwellDS

Should let people rematch until they stop, and then start calculate floor rating. Many time I just got stopped just after 1 match because the rating think I need to go up or go down, while we're having a good time together. Players can just quit if they feel like they are curbstomped, we don't need the system to help us. Right now the tower work just like ranked match, the one thing they said they wanted to avoid.
Secondly, show us latency and wifi indicator before starting match. It's really annoying to start a match and seeing 250ms ping.
