The key thing Melo points out here which a lot do not consider until the end is mixing as you go. Some people are co-dependent on their Waves, Slate Digital etc plugins that many likely don’t utilize their VST perimeters to create the sonic sounds they desire. So perhaps consider adding your favorite plugins at the end just tie/glue everything together will very little processing. So long you do go in hot in the beginning and give yourself enough headroom (plugin or not) you should be good.
this playing just killing.... be having that pitch wheel singing!
Thanks bro! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Melo your sound is quite special and unique that it breathe such nuances of a jazzy, groovy vibe mix with that classic R&B sound. I could listen to the instrument on repeat. It soothes the mind and heal the soul.
Thank you! That really means a lot. As we all continue to grow as creators, we begin to develop a sound that, while familiar to and true to the genre, is also unique. Our personal musical preferences and experiences shine through our music if we allow ourselves to be free to create, aside from just what's popular. Thanks again - I'm glad you're enjoying my videos. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Man, you’ve opened so many fresh ways of working for me! I see now I’ve been unnaturally dividing recording from mixing when it’s natural to blend the two processes. You’re so right: the production as-you-go helps inform where you need to be! Thank you! 🙏 you’re so wise and practical, and you’re not afraid to go against the grain. World class teaching. 💥
Thanks brother. I really appreciate that and I'm glad you were able to take something from this. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Man this track watered my eyes I love and do music and lost my ex wife to my priorities not being balanced and along with taking our relationship plus her for granted..powerful lesson in the end I learned..totally felt this track
Thanks brother. I'm really sorry to hear that. We've all made our mistakes. Some might always sting just a little when we reflect back and reminisce. But with time, I've learned to forgive myself and to not allow anyone to keep me in that place (where I have to relive my mistakes over and over). It sounds like the lesson was learned, so you can hold your head up high and move forward with peace. You'll find love again my brother. 💪🏾🙏🏾✊🏾
Hey bro can share the VSTs and equipment you used as well. I would love to learn more about mixing. That would be a great tutorial class that I would jump on.
@@cdauterive1 Hey bro. I think I showed all the VSTs I used. Is there a specific section you're referring to?
@@melotheproducer actually I seen it when I went back to it, but just learning more about mixing would be helpful. The way you simplified it was awesome. Sent a text
Thanks for showing us this.. 🔥
Thank you for requesting it fam! I'm glad you enjoyed it. 🙏🏾✊🏾
I love the smooth bass
Thanks fam! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
My favorite one so far 👏
I appreciate it brother. 🙏🏽✊🏽
Great job as usual family! Always love these styles you do! Drums are DOPE! Blessings!
I appreciate you brother! Blessings to you and yours! 🙏🏾✊🏾
"As long as you know its real baby...just as long as you know" 2x (Hook came to me as I was listening..vibz). (It follows the melody that comes in with the chorus).
That could be some fire bro! 🫡
Sounding really good!!! Can’t wait to hear the finished product!!!
Thanks sis!!! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 Your excitement is getting me more excited about it 😂.

Thanks sis. This is a very good overview and very good observations. Very well said. 🫡🙏🏾
@@melotheproducer Thank you. Trust me, I’m still practicing Melo. But I’m going to get it (eventually). I understand the concept, but it’s getting the application of the actual doing.
This joint is fly as hell!! 💯💯
I appreciate it fam! 🙏🏽✊🏽
Boy got session musicians in his box... that's how he creates. he orchestrates!
I appreciate it fam! I'm always trying to grow musically and use it in the right places in my production. 🙏🏾✊🏾
@@melotheproducer your usage of virtual instruments reminds me of listening to music (intently) as a kid in the late 70s/early 80s. A lil dude learning to sing and appreciate sound, I was a credit reader. Session musicians back then (to me) made those albums GREAT. Well the arrangers were awesome too in how they translated what they heard in-between the ears to the tracking process... and to think they did it without having a tangible timeline to play in. That's u champ!
Thanks brother. I really appreciate it. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 Sounds like we come from the same era. A time when music had a special place in our lives and when those credits/ liner notes were precious. 🫡
@@melotheproducer 4sho!
your sound is different. this reminds me of Tim & Bob. you know who i hear on this. Lyfe Jennings.
This is so fire I love R&B like this I just can’t get it down
Thanks fam. Nothing to it. You mean specifically like this track, or just R&B in general? Check these tutorials out if you haven't already: czcams.com/play/PLvGOPyBJB18HWJXMD1-W5KdIfC4RZoN_i.html Thanks again. 🙏🏽✊🏽
So Good.
Thanks bro! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Smooth beat bro
My brother! I appreciate it. 🙏🏾✊🏾
Music fam getting some gems with this series!
Thanks fam! I'm glad you enjoyed it. 🙏🏾✊🏾
Really appreciate this one... mixing beats has always been a struggle for me - from trying to get everything 'leveled,' to the constant frustrations of it not being satisfying when doing the 'car test'... I guess using a Limiter is one of the keys to a loud, but solid mixed beat (18:41). It was always frustrating hearing everyone's beats on CZcams/IG/their beatstore sound a certain way, (loud and crisp) but not being able to replicate it fully. But I've always created and mixed on headphones, so that could be it also... ATH-M50x
Trying to get my passion for making beats back
I'm glad you enjoyed it bro. I'd say one of the best things you can do is to listen to your mix on different sources often. I often check my mixes on two different pairs of headphones (AKG 240/ATH-M50x) that have different sounds. Also, you can always reference your mix with a song that has a mix you like. Doing these things should get you pretty close to the mix you want. Keep pushing brother. You've got it. 🙏🏾✊🏾
Bro i love those guitar string bends that like fluctuates it compliments it so well with the lead synth!
Love what u always cook up melo!
I appreciate it brother! That's what I try to aim for - finding sounds that balance each other out. Always good to hear your perspective because I really enjoy your sound as well. 🙏🏽✊🏽
That bassline! I lov true musicianship. Real nice bro! Keep it comin!!
@@IMakeBeats Thanks bro - Will do! 🙏🏾✊🏾
Been waiting for this
Thanks bro. Let me know if there's anything you need me to explain in more detail. 🙏🏽✊🏽
🔥🔥🔥
Thanks bro. 🙏🏽✊🏽
Thanks bro. I'd definitely say Tim & Bob helped to influence my sound. And yeah, good call - I can hear Lyfe Jennings on this as well. 🙏🏾✊🏾
your welcome and yeah Tim & Bob i really really enjoy there sound alot. wish they collabed again. one question how are u using your Maschine Mikro MK3 ? how did you set it up in MPC software ?
@@lee_the_underground_producer Basically, I just selected the Mikro Mk3 as the MIDI input. Make sure you put the Mikro in MIDI Mode first by pressing "SHIFT and the button that looks almost like a target in the upper left corner. I did a quick video describing the whole process here: czcams.com/video/fhfrYB7y2fI/video.html . Just let me know if you need any more help with it.
Approved!!🔥🔥🚀🚀🚀
From the mouth of the maestro himself! I appreciate it brother. 🙏🏾🫡
Keep applying PRESSURE bredda!!🔥🔥🔥😤
Sounds dope
I appreciate it brother. 🙏🏽✊🏽
Thanks for this video.
Excellent work! You have those keys talking! All those layers and sounds fit together well. A good balanced sounding mix. Nice use of reverb. I enjoyed watching your process of thought. 🎚.
I really appreciate it brother. I usually keep my mixing process (for beats) pretty simple. Just a little bit of this and a little bit of that lol. Glad you enjoyed it bro. 🙏🏽✊🏽
That Guy!!💯💯🔥🔥
I appreciate it bro! 🙏🏾✊🏾
I like yo style man lol
Subbed!
Thanks fam lol - Welcome to the channel! 🙏🏾✊🏾

Yeah brother...I can definitely hear him on it. 🫡
This shit 🔥 asf bro!!!
Thanks fam!!! 🙏🏾✊🏾
Do you mix vocals as well if so I would like to see how you mix vocals in a session too I'm tryna learn mixing vocals currently and tryna be a one stop shop for artists
Got you bro. That's definitely something to add to your bag for artists. Coming soon. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Love your videos. What is your monitors and headphones?
Thanks bro. I'm mixing on Yamaha HS8s (but I also have Rokit10s for playback). My main headphones are AKG K240s. I like to use monitors and headphones that have been around for a while so I can have a pretty good idea of what a mix should sound like on them. (Also, sooo many people have HS8s, so if you end up going to their studio to collab, mix, etc., you'll be familiar with them.) 🙏🏽✊🏽
Thank U brother , hope all is well hopefully I can join the next private session . I see u keep it minimal on the processing, less is more tho , amazing sound King 👑
Proverbs 27:17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend . ( meaning his own people ) Christ ain’t going to sharpen the other nations, no sir only his people ,Negroes ) #FACTS Keep Grinding King Salute 🫡
Thanks bro. I hope so. I'll be scheduling the next one very soon. Yeah man, these VSTIs are pretty much already mixed. We don't really need to do too much to them the way we would with an actual drumset or piano, for example. I appreciate you King. 🙏🏾✊🏾
Bro, are you using the drum sounds from the MPC one and using the maschine as mini?
Hey bro. Yep. That's right. (That's the MPC Studio.)
Question about it the MPC software. Looks like each of your drum parts have a separate track, is the MPC software a different instance on each track or do all the drums play inside one MPC software instance?
There's one instance of the MPC software running, but I created 16 MIDI tracks, each assigned/ outputting to the MPC software. Each drum part isn't technically assigned to a specific track (because any pad could be used on any if the create MIDI tracks). But I do typically use just one pad per track.
@@melotheproducer Awesome! Thank you sir!
@@zurkram Anytime! I forgot to tell you I did a video about it lol. czcams.com/video/fhfrYB7y2fI/video.html
What drum kit you using? The beat is fire!
Thanks fam! All my drums are all handpicked from different places. 🙏🏾✊🏾
Hi Melo,
Do you bounce your midi to audio? If so does this process happen after you’ve achieved your desired sound?
Thanks in advance.
Hey fam. I almost never do. But there are some rare cases (sometimes with MPC Software, for example) where I want to edit some individual parts. When doing so, I'll use the VSTi itself for the editing I want to do there, bounce it, and edit the audio further.
@@melotheproducerthank you so much. I really appreciate it.
Hi melo i got the surealistic mg 1 plus but i don't how to make it sound good like yours?
Please sir can you help me
Hey bro. Thanks. That would take a lot more explanation than I can give in the comment section. DM me on IG and maybe we can set up a one-on-one Zoom session. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Brooo I been tryna make a beat tape and this is exactly the sauce I needed to see!! How do you normally deal with clashing sounds in a more busy mix? I always feel like I strip it down and then the mix sounds too thin. I’m taking notes fam ✊🏾🔥
I appreciate it brother. I'm glad it helped. The first and probably most important factor in dealing with clashing sounds is the sound selection itself. Choosing sounds that balance each other out will give you a big head start. But even though I try to find sounds that have different frequencies so they don't get in each other's way, of course we're always going to have sounds that do clash sometimes. In those cases, here are some tips: (1)Try to perform them in a way where they don't interfere with each other (placement/timing of when the sounds are actually played). (2) Arrange the track sections where they're not playing at the same time. (3) Pan the sounds in opposite directions of each other. (4) Decide which one you'll make the dominant/most important sound and lower the other one in the mix. (5) Apply high pass/low pass filters (or high cut/low cut filters) to either one, or apply opposite filters to both. (6) Use reverb to separate sounds. You can literally make them seem like they're in different rooms by using different reverbs and different reverb settings.) (7) Use automation to adjust volumes, reverbs, panning, etc. and combine that with any combination of the other tips. I'm going to try to make a video about this soon. Thanks again bro. 🙏🏽✊🏽
@@melotheproducer Awesome!!! Thank you soo much for these details I never thought about using opposite filters or different reverbs lol I always use the same one 🤣
- my emoji-dance with the hi-hat.

What's up fam! Thanks for checking it out. 🙏🏽✊🏽
Great video bro, with great explanation! I like that you are taking us through your creation journey.🫡
Same for me, I also prefer to mix while creating and adjusting the mix on the go through the process. 👍
I appreciate it brother! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽Yeah, my mixing process for tracks is pretty simple - Mix as I go and come back later with fresh ears to touch it up.
