    I find the easiest way to not sound dated is definitely use updated drums. I can’t help it but I love the Roland cloud and the vintage stuff but I’ll add some trap/drill/hip hop drums and it brings it forward. This video was on point brother Melo. 👏 👏👏👏👏

    dope... Only in our culture does this happen. Artists are either deemed "too old" to do music or either "sound dated". Production wise or as an artist. I literally don't ever see this in reggae, country, rock, punk, soca, or any other culture like I've witnessed it in ours. It's beyond madd.

    • @melotheproducer
      @melotheproducer  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thanks fam. Exactly. I actually hate that word ("dated") when it comes to music. You change your sound to sound "current" only to then find that what you were already doing is now the new trend. I think good music should be appreciated for what it is. “ANOTHA ONE” dope broooo 🔥🔥🔥 love that motif classic since it’s… well a classic!! By chance how did you record it into your daw? I see that you hooked it up through midi but also see the audio waves recorded from it? It’s just I have a Yamaha Dx7 which I would like to record in my daw but unfortunately I’m not sure what’s the best way to record hardware I’m still new at this!

    • @melotheproducer
      @melotheproducer  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Thanks bro! Yeah - Love my Motif man. Ok to connect a MIDI keyboard into your DAW, you're going to need some sort of MIDI interface. You should be able to find one for less than $30. (For older keyboards, run MIDI Out to MIDI In on the interface and vice versa with MIDI In. A lot of newer keyboards have a built-in interface via USB.) Once it's connected via MIDI, you'll also need to connect it to audio so you can actually hear the keyboard. So first, you'll record the MIDI just like you would with a VSTi. But after you do that, you'll also need to record the keyboard part to an audio track. That's pretty much it. And that'll apply to any kind of MIDI instrument you want to record into your DAW. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks again bro! 🙏🏾✊🏾

    • @jorgeperez6308
      @jorgeperez6308 Před 4 měsíci

      Dope bro thank you so much for the information!!!
      If the dx7 has a stereo left and right output, would I just connect both to my two inputs of my Scarlett interface? I’m still trying to figure out the difference between mono and stereo

    • @melotheproducer
      @melotheproducer  Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@jorgeperez6308 Anytime bro. Yep. That's it. Turn your gain down on the inputs before plugging them in (and I'd even turn the Main/Master level down too) to avoid a spike to protect your equipment, and possibly your ears too. When you're recording into your DAW, you'll then just record to a stereo track. But if you want to record a sound that you know is only Mono (exactly the same on the left and right side) like most snares and kicks, for example, you can save some hard drive space and processing by panning that sound all the way to the left (within your keyboard) to record to the left channel or all the way right to record to the right channel and onto a Mono track in your DAW. If this part confuses you, just record to Stereo tracks to get started and then come back to that Mono part later lol. Hope this helps.

    I was wondering if there is a specific reason why you use Maschine with the MPC software instead of the MPC Studio that you have right above it. I'm asking because I'm thinking about buying the MPC Studio and I want to know if there is any problem with Cubase.

    • @melotheproducer
      @melotheproducer  Před 4 měsíci +2

      The MPC Studio was designed to be used exclusively with MPC Software. Even though you can open the software as a VSTi in Cubase, the MPC Studio won't record into Cubase. So I just use the pads from the Maschine Mikro to record into Cubase. I just use the MPC Studio to mix in MPC Software.

    It just comes down to quality & avoiding gimmicks really. when you try to make something sound old you lose all the creativity. the best stuff in the 90s was new for the time.
    great example in my opinion is the 2017 wu tang album produced by mathematics. it's not only traditional Hiphop, but very much wu tang flavored, yet it still sounds new. like what you might've expected wu tang to sound like in 20 years if you thought about it back in the day.

    The music sounds Kool but still dated. I think added less with fresh Instruments and samples and the best special must be foremost. With just the beat or a single instrument very new and fresh can make a hit our day with a lot of changes and Instruments fail. I was that producer with adding so many instruments in a production. Now if it's more that seven sounds it's to many. I like the track you made though.

    • @melotheproducer
      @melotheproducer  Před 4 měsíci

      Thanks bro. The tracks in this video were intentionally created to sound "dated". I disagree that there's a specific number of layers that can be used before a track is considered dated because even the samples used in "modern" songs include a full band and then more sounds are added on top of those samples. It's all about blending the sounds together to your taste as a producer. Even though I wouldn't expect a current artist to use the first track, turning that track into a sample and remaking the drums would make it "current", which is what I said in the video. I just wasn't about to create and mix 2 tracks and then create a 3rd one all for the sake of this video. The second track, there are definitely artists who would use it today, even though it has a 90s feel. Often, people just don't know how big a beat can be until they hear an artist on it ("Hours and Hours" for example). But we all have different styles and opinions and that's why I really don't think the whole "dated" thing makes sense in the first place (unless we're talking about something that's obviously a trend, like in the first beat). Thanks again bro. 🙏🏾✊🏾
