    Loooool I just purchased myself the Roland JV 880 rack from 1992 and at 5.44 you speaking about hardware 😂😂😂 I have been thinking about getting thay module for months because I'm addicted to the soul and analog richness them modules bring to my sound. But then again I didn't really need it to make soulful music. It's just something to help me add more richness and uniqueness to my sound in 2024. Another banging beat you made brother. I loved every second of it!

    • @melotheproducer
      @melotheproducer  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Thanks bro. Now we all know that Roland is the exception! 😂😂😂 I have to admit - I have a thing for Roland hardware. But for real, I'm not against hardware. I'm just a big proponent of knowing what you really want and not just jumping on trends. I'll definitely have a whole wall dedicated to Roland hardware one day bro. Congrats on a great find btw. (I used to have a JV-80 keyboard back in the day.) ✊🏾

    • @JSoulKeys
      @JSoulKeys Před 5 měsíci

      @@melotheproducer yep! I agree with you because all I had back in the day was a casio keyboard and I used to love making music on that. Fast forward now, I know that my sound is old skool and I always loved the Roland synths because it was the synth that every if not all of the rnb greats in the 90s AND early 00s used. The JV series is absolutely incredible for rnb music, from the legendary JV piano to the Doogie Tines from their EP selection, to the deep analog bass with keith sweat used on his countless records. I just knew I had to get that because for me, my sound connects with the tones them modules give, it would only further enhance the music when I'd layer the module with modern sounds! Glad you have a sweet spot for roland too! I'm shocked that you "used" to own it and still don't have your xp-80! You gotta get that back for sentimental purposes bro! 😂😂😂

    Facts! Big facts!! Gear Acquired Syndrome is the #1 destroyer of good music and musicians. Too much gear is almost always hindrance especially to new producers. Here’s fact… almost every sound you need is in most DAW factory sets. Remember when Fruity Loops was a laughed at software until kids learned that program in and out and trap and drill has been the it sound. Learn to convey your feelings into your music at your level. Btw finished my first track this year. 😂😂

    • @melotheproducer
      @melotheproducer  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Exactly. I remember when the factory sounds were just there to fill in a space. (Remember GM sound banks?) It took me a while to get used to the fact that the stock sounds that come in most DAWs are actually really good now. Definitely remember when Fruity Loops was seen as a joke and now it's becoming a standard for some music. Well said. And congrats on the track too bro. It's up from here - We're still early in the year. 😂😂✊🏽

    another great video brother... but the only thing I will say is... for me I can notice a little difference in the sound... you have some great software out here... but that real analog sound just can't be matched dynamic wise... don't get me wrong... i use different vst's to sound design... and they sound great... but after that i run everything through my S2400 and it just sounds more alive, big and warm its hard to explain... but from my heart this is all in love not trying to cause any type of argument! awesome awesome video very informative and motivational... salute brother!

    • @melotheproducer
      @melotheproducer  Před 5 měsíci

      Thanks brother. I appreciate it. I can definitely agree that there IS a difference between hardware and software to the trained ear. If you've ever owned a Moog, for example, you're probably going to be able to tell the difference between a real one and a software version. But you're also probably going to admit how close certain emulations sound. If you've ever owned a Neve console, you're going to understand the pros and cons of dealing with a huge 24-96 channel console (size, patch bays, cooling/maintenance, inconsistencies between the different channels, etc.) vs just using UAD's version of a Neve. (One of my tricks for getting a similar sound the way you do with your S2400 is to run EVERY channel through Softube's Console, and it actually does work. I have outboard gear I run everything through if budget allows me the time, but it's usually not really worth it.) Most hardware is going to sound slightly different from even other instances of the same hardware, so the software emulations will sound different as well. And then, there's the case of the actual settings. A lot of times, just a hair of hardware can give a warmer or more analog sound, but you have to crank the software a lot more to get a similar sound.) But my point in the video was just that hardware will not make you a better producer. But for the person who's ear is developed to the point where they can hear the difference and they can afford the hardware, definitely treat yourself. I do have certain hardware myself that I live by. But when I'm traveling, I just use the UAD version (though I'd rather the hardware). And I know it's all love my brother - always! Even if I didn't agree with you on the topic, it still would be. Salute! 🙏🏽✊🏽

  • @matthewgaines10
    @matthewgaines10 Před 4 měsíci

    As far as hardware, use what you want to use and can be productive on. No one else’s philosophy on software or hardware is relevant to you and your work. Peddlers of software will tell you that’s all you need. Hardware people will tell you it’s all in the gear. Nether position matters if you are lacking in skill and knowledge. Ignore everyone else’s philosophical bent on the subject and go where you find comfort and creativity. For some, it will be hardware. For others, it will be software. Then there are others who have a hybrid workflow. That’s just the way it is. Find out what works best “for you* and get to work. Ignore everyone else’s approach and find out yours.

    • @melotheproducer
      @melotheproducer  Před 4 měsíci

      Totally agreed my brother. I have somewhat of a hybrid setup myself. And I would never tell anyone to that one is better than the other because they both have their pros and cons. But I would advise to develop your ear before just going out and splurging (even if you can afford to). For example, times when I made multiple purchases for my vocal chain at once (like preamp, compressor, new mic) I realized I didn't really know what each piece sounded like because I added too many things at once and didn't know how each piece was affecting the sound individually. So I would advise them to learn each piece of hardware and really know what they were getting. But then you never know...What about a person with a $20,000 budget for a brand new vocal chain? Would I tell him/her to get a $60 microphone and work his way up just because that's what I did? With that budget, I'd tell them to start with a U87, a Neve-style preamp, and a CL 1B (AND to buy the software versions for convenience). So everyone's situation's different and there's no "one size fits all" situation. Definitely some good advice there bro. Thanks for checking it out and for commenting. 🙏🏽✊🏽

    I have question so I be getting people sayin “how you a music producer and you don’t know the all the classics or don’t listen to them” is that something to worry about? Don’t even kno if this makes sense or not

    • @melotheproducer
      @melotheproducer  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I can definitely feel you on this bro. If you can produce, don't worry about what anyone says. It's good to pay homage to the artists/producers who came before us, but producing is about creating a feeling. For example, growing up, all I knew was what was on the radio (until probably middle or high school) because I wasn't allowed to listen to anything other than Gospel. So to this day, I still don't know some artists names, but I've heard the songs. Another thing is that I want my own sound, so I don't just go and listen to a lot of other music because I don't want to unknowingly "copy" it. Just do your thing bro. You sound like you know what you're doing to me. 💯 Keep pushing fam!✊🏽

      The things I have that I actually need in order to make music are my laptop (Asus M15) and DAW (Cubase), interface (UAD Apollo), keyboard controller (usually using my Yamaha Motif Classic), and something to hear myself (Yamaha HS8s. I also have Rokit 10s, but usually use the Yamahas). Aside from my VSTs, that's all I really need to make music. @@Rio-uv1gs Thanks bro. I'm using more plugins for my production. My sounds are almost always coming from VSTs and my mixing is done using VSTs too (except for my mastering for finished songs). I'm only using my keyboards as controllers (usually) and the Maschine Mikro and MPC Studio are only controlling sounds in the computer. I have a mixer controller (Tascam US-2400) but that's only controlling levels, etc. in Cubase. So a lot of it's just to have hands-on control of what's in the computer. But that US-2400 is 19 years old, for example, so that kind of shows you that you don't have to run out and buy everything at once. A lot of it's just to speed up my workflow.

    My beats bang so hard when making them. But 9 out 10 times I messed up the vibe after mixing them another day

      Yeah I’ve done that plenty of times, the best thing to do is know when to leave it alone. There’s a reason why when you hear a certain level of distortion or saturation it sounds better than the over polished version.

      I think we can all relate bro. Even though it's good to listen back (and make small changes) with fresh ears, I try to do the majority as I make it.

    Just a note, don't cut back and forth so rapidly when you are doing talking head shots ( like in the beginning of the video). It's really jarring and distracted me from paying attention to what you are saying. The shot should be focused on what you want the viewer to pay attention too, so when you are addressing the audience the shot should STAY on you until it's time to transition to a new element of the video, and then a B roll shot of you producing makes sense because its subconsciously telling us to get ready for the next section. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this video and the content you are sharing. Keep crushing!

      I appreciate that bro. I'll definitely keep that in mind. The funny thing is that's exactly what I'd do if I were editing video for someone else, but after all this time, I'm still not used to talking on camera...But I'll do better bro lol. Thanks again. 🙏🏽✊🏽
