I had the same problem and i went to my usual mechanic and was delivered the devastating news that in order to fix my power steering the parts alone were going to cost $2000!!! So i came home, watched this video, and got the part from a local junk yard for $50. I thought it couldn't hurt to try and it worked!! Hey George, thank you so much for this video. My battery was down due to cold, and then the EPS sign was on. I called the dealer, and they said they have to do the diagnostic, which would have cost almost $2,000. So I looked in the internet, came across this video, order parts from local dealer, and asked a mechanic to fix. It was done within $400. So, thanks alot. The EPS was a little tricky to pull out, but it worked.

I finally figured out how to get the connectors off - getting the fuse box out of the way was the biggest pain in the butt! Nicole - thank you! I took a hairdryer to my EPS, then sat it over a space heater for the night. Plugged it back in, and everything is fixed!

@@shabbirchaudhry2445 I had a 2015 civic with the EPS warning but my steering wasn't hard. I bought a used ABS modulator from eBay for $100 and had it installed. Fixed the issue. Remember to put your vin in a Honda parts website to get the correct part number

You LITERALLY just saved us $1100...plus. Our situation, in case it helps anyone (NOT necessarily recommending but worked in our case...do at your own risk). Have a Honda Civic 2012, power steering error just suddenly shows up one morning, and no power steering at all. After watching your video and many others, we found the unit, detached it, and detected condensation around cables and INSIDE the unit itself. Sweet husband used is magic tools to blow dry it out, put it all together again and voila...fixed. Epoxied seals around the unit to prevent further moister and now looking into AC thingamajig in same vicinity to see if that is the condensation culprit. Again, thank you for sharing this info and saving us a hefty repair bill. Final cost: time on Google/CZcams, a few hours, a few swear words, and $0.

Thanks for that video! I went ahead and followed its advice...checked the 70A fuse, it was ok...removed the EPS unit (without having to remove the glove box, only had to disconnect and move the electrical junction box aside to make room for the EPS unit to slide down)...I ordered a used one from eBay for $275 CDA...let's hope this works, if it does the total repair will have cost me only $275...thanks to you, my new friend! By the way, I dared to do the same type of repair on my 2006 Cadillac STS-V a couple of years ago...problem with that was the EBCM unit (Electronic Brake Control Module - brakes, ABS, stability control, etc)...the new computer was $2,600 CDA, got a used one for $593 CDA...worked like a charm! It sometimes pays to dare...and follow other people's advice. Thanks a bunch, one more time!
I just replace my EPS bought brand new on Amazon. It still didn't work?
Result: all EPS problems have gone away...let's hope it lasts...I also learned that apparently it is the electric motor that draws too many amps and sometimes to the point of frying the module, so obviously there is a problem with the motor's impedance in this EPS circuit...poor engineering from Acura (and Honda) I say...not impressed at all! In order to try to prevent this in the future, I won't ever turn the steering all the way to the end (you can hear a sound when it reaches that far...must not be good).

We where on a major highway, thank God all I did was remove the fuseable link, when I replaced it, the system worked. Eventually, my in law took the car to the dealer, called Acura headquarters and they replaced the main unit, which is quite expensive, but they did called it a "goodwill" repair and paid for everything. Honestly, I believe this is a common problem on these Acuras and they are aware of this. My in law's car is a 2013, with just about 70K miles on it. Acura stood behind their product and did far more than I expected they would do, but then again, the car wasn't cheap either.

Have a 2012 tsx eps stop working. Found broken wires on the rack where steering shaft hooks in but still no steering. Can it be something other than the psm. The fuse is good also
Hey George Happy New Year! Do you know if 2010 Acura RL has similar unit? My car wasn't started in a week and I started it to just run it for 5 - 10 minutes. About 5 minutes in the warm up phase, "check power steering system" light came up. It stayed on the dash until I turned the car off. Upon starting it again there was no light. Could it be the car hasn't ran in a week in cold/rainy season and system is just acting? I own this car for over 2 years and have not seen this error.
I may need one of the used modules if u have one. I have a 2010 tsx same issue.

ATTENTION: Acura is aware of this issue! I had this happen to me on my 2012 TSX in Dec 2019 I called Acura and explained the issue which was exactly the issue in this video. I got my car repaired for free at the dealership. So anyone reading this with a 2nd gen TSX call your Acura dealership and explain to them your power steering light came on and demand them they fix it for free under extended warranty. They explained to me they extended the warranty for EPS module failures on TSXs.

My EPS code came on and power steering went out on my 2014 Acura TL but then started working within a half hour. Could it be an issue with not letting the car warm up properly or just the fuse like you stated to view first?

It’s a great video but I just want to add some information how to remove the module. The module location is tight space and there’s not enough space to take out but I remove the fuse box below it. Disconnect all the connectors connected into the fuse box.

How do you remove the white connector attached to the EPS module? I've removed two of the three bolts, but the top right one, is blocked by that white connector. It looks like it bolts to the EPS module somehow... I have been unable to unplug or remove it from the EPS module.

Hey, I got all the bolts out and everything but I cannot seem to get the module out, I have tried wiggling it and turning it, but it just won't come out, I tried taking the fuse box out but there are two connectors at the top that I can't seem to get off, any tips?

I'm having the steering indicator flashing on my car too.. its a fiat 500 sport 2009, if i turn the car off it usually goes away when i restart the engine, sometimes it comes back again after i start it again, so i checked if it would go away if i shut the engine again off and restart... it goes away completely. (go figure)
My mechanic says if the steering doesnt get harder, i should leave it be, it could be an electronics fuck up at the Fiat factory (thats something you rarely hear about :P ) if it gets harder i should go and have it fixed in the same day.
The word i wanna focus on is "Fixed" not replaced, so i would skip the extra cost.
Any ideas why it would come on and off ocassionally?
Maybe i should mention that the "sport" button, makes the steering harder, and when its off the power steering starts working. It doesnt only affect the throttle responce. Its a completely different car to drive with the sport mode on or off

I manged to fix the issue by replacing the whole EPS unit. Worth to mention that you actually don't need to get the exact same part number (I couldn't find mine), so I tried a used one which was made for diesel version. It didn't work. I got the new one for petrol version (2.4 engine, Accord CU2 2010) and it worked fine with my vehicle (2.0 engine, Accord CU 2014 restyle/facelift).

THANK YOU SIR! Same problem on my 2013 accord aport. Took it to dealer and was quoted $1600 to change an “ABS” module. I told them I had a power steering issue not a brake issue. Ordered a used “EPS” module from ebay for $60 and done. My car is fixed! STAY AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP. What a bunch of thieves.

Hi guys, i have a 2006 FA civic and my problem is similar. EPS power steering light is on and the steering is really hard to turn. The part number on my EPS Control Unit is 39980-SNA- U02.....My question is would another unit from a salvage car work if the number on that unit is slightly different? It says 39980-SNA-U1. hey Im having the same issue with the EPS module on my 2013 acura tsx, question, did you have to do any type of re program or re learning process on the swap ? becaise i took my car to an acura store and they told me that i could swap the module but that i will have to do a re learn on the steering angle sensor in order to make it work.

Hello George! Have you actually disassembled the faulty EPS Controller to see what electronic components were no longer working? I was driving today when my EPS suddenly shut off. I pulled over, turned off the engine, and started it back up. I was able to continue on home with no problem. Do you know what would cause a temporary failure like that? Should I take this as warning sign of permanent failure?

Hello. I have Honda Chord 8 generation with similar problem. When starting the steering wheel is heavy and after starting over 20 km / h and raising over 2000 rpm the steering wheel is fine. The same indicator appears on the display but the error in the car is that it does not see the engine speed. what could this be?

Hey George, my 2013 TL has a similar issue, however it is intermittent. It works for a while and then goes off and then back on. I assume it's the module, but curious if you have any other ideas.

@@shawncatchin24 I did actually. An EPS module was faulty, a service tried to repair the unit, but they couldn't, so I bought another and gave them to replace it.

Also, worth to mention - at first I couldn't find the unit for my vehicle (Accord CU 2.0 petrol), so I found the one for Accord CU 2.2 diesel, but it wasn't compatible, even though it looked exactly the same. Then I found one for Accord 2.4 petrol for €100 and it worked. Just to let you know.
Never had that problem so far. I have a 2009 tsx with 259,810 miles
NIce video. I just replaced the eps of my civic 2012 but after two days the new EPS is off again, i get the same error message.
When i turn on the engine then the EPS beeps (sound as a relay) about 4 for times, it's like "alert! alert! alert! alert!"...the same with the previous EPS.
What do you think, the EPS is damaged again? if so, Is There something in the vehicle that's damaging the EPS? or maybe the EPS is good but it detects a malfunction of another sensor and it turns off?
I've read it may be caused by the battery but I've changed it a half year ago, although it is a generic battery.

@@venothan1 you have to have the EPS programmed. I had mine programmed at the Honda dealership. They charged me $150 which is ridiculous but it has to be a Honda/Acura dealership.

I have a 2007 FA civic si with a similar problem, but my steering light flashes when i turn the steering. When there is no steering input the light stays off. I was told that its the torque sensor on the rack. Does anyone know the part number???
