Probably because thats a line theyve used and heard frequently enough to master? Like using it to lure people away
I could be wrong, but maybe the lines are stated clearly if they're affected by his UVX thingy. She had the status effect in that clip but I don't think any other ones.

Yeah and don’t get me started how it took a page from Dredge’s book and in his Mori, he absorbs the body of the survivor by turning them into dust
I wish it sounded a little more naturalistic about it.
It should have been his ability instead the devs disappoint once again

I would love to see skins in the game that are just mangled up versions of survivors. Like a disfigured Jake saying "Hey...you...this yours?"
That would be cool but they had something like that for leatherface and it got removed because it was somehow being used for racist things (supposedly) so my guess is that we won't get something like that again unfortunately
He already looks like Dwight, so i love your idea.
Imagine if he could get skins of more humanoid killers as well, like Ji Woon or Frank.
That would put him in a more "dangerous spot" saying that even other killers could be his victims, even if it's not canon, of course

The fact that was the most non distorted voice line makes me think that it’s the most effective one used to lure and kill its victims, so it got used to saying it more than the other ones. That’s my head canon at least.

Yeah, for the rest seems like it doesn't know what the phrases mean, but says them regardless because it knows the phrases attract attention
Yeah, it's a nice contrast. In the mori and lobby it says more aggressive and mocking lines
or it's someone possessed/infected asking for help within deep down
I think he does it to make fun of his victims.
One of his lines is “would you like some candy” which means he probably killed kids as well

Fun fact: If I recall, the “can you help lift this” was a line used by a real serial killer.
Now that you mention it, it does remind me of this one scene in Silence of the Lambs, where Buffalo Bill lures a woman into his van when pretending to move something into it with a broken arm.
I think Ted Bundy used that to kidnap people. He would go to college campuses and act like he couldn't lift a stack of books into his car, and he would ask passing students if they could lift it into his car for him. When they did, he would shove them into his car and drive off.

It was Ted bundy who would use that line I'm pretty sure, he'd fake an injury (like a broken arm or leg) and would lure women to his car so they could "help him" it's honestly scary as hell
I like the last one where the Unknown causally walks up to Sable asking for help but Sable is just ignoring him and the Unknown is trying to get her attention

BHVR finally knowing how to Dead by Daylight again
Man, they really make you focus on the hallucination when you try to dispel it. Absolutely perfect for those scenarios where the killer player teleports to that one randomly, and scares the living $#!+ out of whoever was trying to dispel it.
As somebody who fell victim to that exact scenario, it really is a perfect horror moment.
Iirc, the dispel progress bar even continues going until the killer interrupts it by moving/attacking.

Judging by whats being said...this thing lures its victims which is even more horrifying
"Have you seen my dog?" A woman who lost her dog most likely passed by Unknown looking for it thinking she'd ask for help. The unknown ate her
"Hey you this yours?" Unknown dropped something intentionally and a nice person tried to return it, not knowing what would come next
"Psst over here" the unknown's real voice. Most likely lured a child with something (candy or toys) and ate them
"Sorry sorry" a passerby bumped into unknown by accident and apologized, only to get eaten
"Can you help lift this?" Unknown staged a scenario where it needed help lifting something. A kind passerby tried to do a good deed. The unknown did its thing
"Sorry, is this yours?" Again it dropped an item hoping someone would see and return it. You know what came next
"Excuse me i need help" a passerby was probably lost and asked for directions. Unknown was unfortunately who they asked

the unknown also has a voice line asking if someone wants candy which was probably also used for kids
What a monster. Behavior really nailed it with the analog horror on this chapter
How did the Unknown even convince people to come closer like were people really thinking “Oh yeah, that person is like 7 feet tall with one of those feet being attributed to the neck, the whole torso is contorted and the face is at best gruesome and at worst is an immediate run as fast as you can and/or call the cops, that seems like a well-rounded member of society and completely trustworthy with my life”
The scarier thing is that, the unknown isn't just mimicking, it Can speak, in the lobby and during mori's it says things like "Insatiable Hunger, Nobody is going to hurt you- Nobody but me, I will not be denied my happiness" and "The Horror, The Terror, Perfect". The Unknown is Intelligent, Sentient and understands speech enough to say freightening things like a human would.
So if I had to guess, I’d imagine these voice lines are ones he’s copied from last victims or people who he has came in contact with before. He then uses (or tries) these lines of dialogue to try to lure others in.
Also there is no proof that this is a cannon connection BUT one of his many voice lines is “can you help me find my dog?” In one of the teaser pictures for this chapter there is a text message between a mom and daughter. In said text message the daughter states that she’s worried something might be outside the house, and that she thinks the neighbors dog may have been killed by said “animal” soooo it sounds to me that the voice line “can you help me find my dog” may have been a line the daughter and mother’s neighbor said to or around the unknown
EDIT: it may have been a text between a couple, not a mother and daughter. Whoops

I believe it is more of an amalgamation of voices from past victims, rather than his last victim.
I also believe that the thing is taking words and putting them together to create sentences (in some way), since there are cases, many of which show signs that words seem to be disconnected from the real meaning, being speeches with a different pronunciation or intonation.

I love how it's Help me lines could also be interpreted as there being something left of someone inside it, like calling out for genuine help which is also creepy.
I feel like, the creature itself, whatever it is, knows how to use basic phrases to help lure in victims, all while at the same time trying to understand how to use a language. It’s super creepy.

When you and the killer have to work together to find the camper holding the game hostage for 30 minutes
The fact that its voices becomes clear when infected is one of the coolest details ever made by bhvr
I like that the unknown mimic the voices most likely from past prey, that it had killed, plus the fact it try to look like a human by wearing the skin of a most likely past prey add the fear to it, everything about it warp and miss match, from the way it walks to the way it uses it weapon. Hell it mean way of killing you is not even with the Axe but with tendrils that spew out of the chest.
I love that its kinda like the choppiness of words from a spirit box

I heard one where it said “you want some candy?” and that was just super unsettling. My understanding is that this killer is literally the manifestation of urban myth itself. For the first time in a long time, I’m actually freaked out by a killer in DBD
His abilities and the way he acts make me think of Fiddlesticks from League of legends.
I think it would be better if the voice lines were more clear and less distorted

I only wish it could absorb grunts of pain from the survivors in a match with it, but this is still great.
This. I’m so very sad that this killer is only a mimic thematically and it has no genuine gameplay value. I was really hoping for a mechanic or even better a perk where the killer goes undetectable and makes the grunts of pain of a survivor, baiting others in to heal him only to find that it’s not a survivor. Really big missed opportunity imo.

I think The Unknown is mimicking sentences that it heard it's victims say before they killed them, and is now also trying to mimic their appearance too. I.E. smiling to try and appear as being friendly to other people (and failing). It would also explain why it sounds like several people at time.
"Have you seen my dog?" The Unknown most likely killed the victims dog.
"I need some help." Most likely things the victim said repeatedly before dying. Also explains why there's so many variations of it, and is usually the most clear sentence.
"You're gonna wanna see this." A usual remark made to try and get someone to come over.
He also has a line that goes "do you want some candy?"

So, not only does it lure its victims in with that, I think that the way it gets those lines and understands them is from the movies, where it can see what happens after somebody asks for helps, it lures the person in. Also, maybe it got those lines off of the victims he’s killed, including (what I presume is Dwight) yelling for help before killing him and wearing his skin, it may even of stalked Dwight and saw him ask for help and speak politely, which helped it mimic.
I LOVE the Predator 2 Easter egg with the "Want some candy" voice line, great touch haha you'll get it once in awhile.

The "taking victim's voices" thing isn't new, but I like how these ones sound like someone was specifically acknowledging Unknown, and his acknowledgement is why he kills people
would be nice if when a chase starts you'd hear the previous victim's screams from the killer
If you mori someone with a long chase time he will say “Now I am mad”
what if The Unknown's lines are things it heard survivors say to one another, and the overlapping voices are theirs too? that would be pretty damn cool
I think what’s so unnerving about the voice lines is they’re not recited intelligently. Like he’s saying “please, help me” when he’s in the middle of a chase and the survivor undoubtedly knows the voice isn’t coming from someone who needs help. It’s sort of like he’s just repeating what others have said around him/what he’s heard while stalking someone without any idea of what any of it actually means, just stating lines in the vain hope that something he’s heard will lure someone closer. Doesn’t work in the context of dbd obviously but as an aesthetic thing it is really cool.
He says quite reasonable phrases in the lobby though, like he can understand and use language well
