@@danieltaylor2700 yes so the clear voice is how he makes people got to him as they think is someone in trouble. He mimics the voice of his victims. If the raspy and glitch voice was always there then it would not work as a way to get people where he want them.

I think what could add some horror to this is that these voice lines don’t sound like someone about to be killed by a shapeshifting or body snatching horror, they sound like they’re luring someone to try and kidnap them, which could be what The Unknown did before being taken by the entity since we know those are the voices of past victims, he had to have gotten access to those voices somehow, like tricking someone and leading them to an early death.

@@Calamity25 Instead we got a grenade launcher, but most survivors if playing together are using discord so idk how good a power like that would’ve been, it would’ve been cool if they gave a killer the ability to disguise as a survivor, maybe this one could’ve been that one.
The devs have stated before that a disguising killer wouldn't work because swf would too easily counter it.
Not all of his lines are victim copies. The mori “Gotcha”, “now I’m mad”, lobby “I… the nameless legend” “now, the world at my feet”, “at last, the fools” “no one will hurt you, no one but me” etc. indicate that it indeed sentient enough to have opinions and its own volition. The lobby “Intolerable hunger” does show that its main drive is to simply eat though.
I love that we get to see its true personality in the lobby when its not on the hunt. This thing is ancient and cunning but only looks stupid because of the skin suit it wears
Its because it was mimicking the voice of cinema movie? Literally it happens near cinema it was often hearing it and it now says words from movie. It knows what they mean and uses them to lure victims etc. But it totally learnt it all from voices it heard.

It is 100% sentient. Its in-game lines are just it trying to lure the victim closer. In its lore it is stated that "it stole voices of those it consumed so as to lure others to their doom", but that's just legends. The Unknown itself is an urband legend with most of what is known to it being just folk tales and made-up bullshit. It is straight up saying coherent sentences in the character select screen. Bro's sentient. This distorted mix of male & female voices is just the closest thing to a human speech it can pull.

They missed an opportunity. Its said that he can mimic voices. So, it should be that he should be able to mimic the sounds of survivors in the lobby and give false indicators to other survivors.
For example, if meg is in the lobby, he should be able to mimic her groans of pain when he injures the real meg, and his terror radius vanishes while he mimics the voice. This should have a cooldown too. Also, he should be able to mimic the footsteps when no survivors are injured. Like, instead of teleportation, they should've added this power instead.
Except that power would instantly get countered by swf

That would've made him probably one of the weakest killers in front of highly skilled players, but for players who have just started playing dbd, it would be a nightmare, my suggestion, make this killer free for everyone, so it becomes more popular among players who are beginners. They should also make it so it can transform into a survivor(and it can't attack in its transformed state) and when any survivor tries to heal, they become exposed, and transforming back to killer takes like 3-4 seconds so as to give them a chance to run. Like imagine how creepy that would be. They can also make it so as their grunts of pain have a very slight distortion like if someone pays really close attention to their groans, they can find out the distortions in voice and know that its an unknown. Also, while it is transformed, perks like spine chill won't work.

I like how some of voice lines are also from movie at cinema "Gotcha" "I am the nameless legend", "Now I am mad". It was killing its victims near that cinema wandering around hearing probably voices from a movie so it also started mimicking them.

0:36 is almost believable and 1:21 is just plain creepy.
The fact that it sounds more clear when you’re affected by the weakened status effect is a neat detail. This is easily one of the best chapters that BHVR’s put out in a while.

One thing I've noticed that's super niche is that The Unknown's voice lines actually in-game are mostly an attempt to replicate a survivor or to lure someone, like how it asks for help or your attention, but when it is performing a mori, The Unknown drops the act entirely and speaks malicious and cruel sentences. Just a cool little detail I've noticed.

I like the special touch that if the survivor is weakened the voicelines are clear.
The voice isn't stolen from any victims, it's just one voice for all of it. It's the voice of the creature itself.
All of the lines in-game normally are to lure victims, either by misdirection, needing assistance, or by offering something.
In menu, it is directly addressing us, or the Entity and just seemingly glad to have someone else to talk to that isn't food. It even explains that it used to live in dungeons long ago, revealing that it is directly Behaviour's version of a D&D mimic. It probably disguised itself by hiding inside of a chest.
In mori, it fully drops the act and either confronts the survivor or taunts them. It can say things like "Die." "Now... I'm mad." "Gotcha."
Not quite. It's specifically stated in the lore that the voices are the victims, that's why there is a male and female version. It copies the voices and quotes of the victims to lure them, and seems to be able to string a few sentences together by itself
I know it would be crazy but it would have been cool that if you mori someone he will make their injured sounds or their other sounds

I like how the name fits the character, is he actually calling for help and can't control his killing intentions or just trying to lure you.
So we was right about the "he talk to lure he's victim" since Weakened survivor actually here the voice way more human than monster. That's so cool.

Can you do a video on his lobby voice lines? I remember him saying something cryptic like, “I lived in dungeons before this,” or something along those lines.
If I recall, the line is "I've lived in dungeons long forgotten". I assumed it maybe has been in the realm before? Maybe another part of it, like the void. And with how it essentially kicked and screamed when the entity took it into the realm in its lore, maybe it has already been there and it didn't want to be back there? Interesting to think about.

There’s at least 8 different voices it uses in the Public Test Build from what I heard during gameplay.
They are as follows:
1. Dogs bark,
2. Low female voice,
3. Higher female voice,
4. Low male voice,
5. Higher male voice,
6. Vocal fry male voice
7. Polyphonic voice and screeches
8. Grunts and screams that sound different from its typical previously mentioned voicing.
From what I can tell, almost every line recorded was produced ANALOG (except the dog bark I’d presume) style without digitally pitching up (from what I can hear) by the same VA I’m guessing.
Lastly, From what I read online, there’s gonna be more lines and voices when the dlc officially releases on the 12th of March. This is just the Public Test Build.

It already has this form in that video, though it may have stolen his clothes. The lore suggests that the true ''Unknown''is the tentacled mass we see when performing the more and UVX, and the body is formed by people's ideas on what it looks like

I just got into DBD and this is one my favorite killers and I have a bit of a headcanon as to why it's called "The Unknown"

Some of these lines sound less like a lure or mimic and more like genuine distress. Considering it was taken by the entity unwillingly, it might in some way actually be asking for aid.
