respect the grind, easier way would of been going out about 5 blocks and building a 1 wide trench around the hole permiter and place water in the 1 wide gap to protect the wall then using tnt machines

Yeah, sadly I only thought of that later. But I did use the trick in the nether using lava instead of water and it worked really well.
