- Army veteran Shawn Warner pursued his childhood dream to become a writer and released his first novel called “Leigh Howard and the Ghosts of Simmons-Pierce Manor” - and it went to No. 1 thanks to a viral video from a TikToker named Red. The two men reunite for the first time on TODAY and share how one small act of kindness can change a life.

Sad truth is there are so many people like Shawn Warner, who have a treasure of a gift that goes unnoticed and unappreciated and fade into obscurity. Luckily and by a choice made by Red, with the support of the internet, Shawn Warner will now have his dream and his book shine brighter than ever. This was such a great story.
I was thinking the same thing. Unlike television, reading a book is a larger commitment and there are are lot of gems out there that people never discover.
I understand that, but it takes a special kind of person to set in a Kroger in public in 2023 to sell a fantastic story. He went above and beyond to try to get his book out there. I've read it, it's actually a great coming if age stiry
My book was published by the same publisher as him, BlackRose Writing, and I wish I had a table to promote it! Its pretty cool that our small little publishing house was able to hit this surprise homerun.
Writing a book is one thing, getting it noticed and promoted is a whole other thing.

Honestly you're a great person - I love when we young people share real books with our peers - one of my greatest treasures as a kid was a collection of Disney books and my mum used to berate me for giving them out to my friends but honestly I'm just glad that I could share the gift of storytelling/knowledge with them. Books = kindness to me ❤️
I also was a Twilight tween 😂 my auntie hated me for sharing her collection with my friends and now decades later I can't wait to watch the films with her for the first time - together 😂❤️

My mother is actually visiting my 13-year-old niece today who lives a few hours away and she is bringing this book 📖 to her as a gift for doing an amazing job during a community theater play she was in last month. I came on here to find a nice story that my mom, "Gramma," could share with her regarding the background of the author and exactly how we came across this book for her. She's a great kid, and I know she will be SO grateful to receive this book (one of her first "longer" books 📚). She's a go-getter, so I have a feeling that she will read this before the kids start school next week!!!
