    I think often times these focus on the food, but actually you can survive over 3 weeks without food. My priority would have been water straight away, that glass bottle is a godsend. Clean it, rig foliage to fill it and then go for food. Coconut water has rapid diminishing returns as it will quickly cause diarrhea. This was a great video though for sure. Would give anything to be on that island right about now.

    • @PCLHH
      @PCLHH Před rokem +7

      Not wrong, but you also don't want to go without food too long, because you will get so weak and tired. But yes: water is first priority

    • @adrienperie6119
      @adrienperie6119 Před rokem +9

      @@PCLHH Try and fast for 3 days. You will find that on that third day you have more energy and focus than on the first day. Obviously this only works in warmer climates, if you're in the snow your body has to burn tons of calories every day just to maintain temperature there's no way around that.

    • @nathancarson9125
      @nathancarson9125 Před rokem +16

      100% Agree. Running around chasing fish is NOT what you want to do. You want to minimize any risk of getting injured, and that was dangerous and a waste of energy. It shows how reckless he is even with a knife. I knew he was going to slice this thumb. The glass bottle more important than food. Water, Shelter first.

    • @adrienperie6119
      @adrienperie6119 Před rokem +1

      @@nathancarson9125 Right ? There are stone fish and rays in there that have a poison dart if you step on it you are dead even if you're taken to the nearest hospital, because on those islands you are always hours away from a doctor. Even cutting yourself can get infected and then you are pretty much certain to die without antibiotics and no way to amputate. Plus you need to be very hungry already to eat what you will find in a survival situation. You're going from good cooked food to if you're lucky fish with no seasoning, and coconuts.
      I think everyone should do a 3 day fast at least once in their life to understand their body better.

    • @031Snippe
      @031Snippe Před rokem +3

      True. Water main prio and something to collect water.. Then shelter in case a storm hits you for a long time and might cause hypothermia. And protection for your fire. Then go for fire. And food last.

      considering you dehydrate in 3 days (which he checked of) and freeze to death in a matter of days while you will last about 3 weeks without food i found it quite interesting to see he prioritised food over shelter. It does look quite warm on that island, but a strong ocean storm without any shelter will change that VERY quickly and cool you down tremendously.
      People always think food is the most important part in a survival situation when it really isnt, unless you plan on surviving for weeks/months.
      it is great that he shows so many options tho, since once it DOES come to finding food in order to survive chances are high you are not gonna find one of your top 10 favorites, so its good to have options.

    • @TheOneRioji
      @TheOneRioji Před 2 měsíci +2

      True, but in terms of tools, if the plane is relatively close to the island, you can probably salvage something from the plane. Because in an actual survival situation, you use whatever you can get your hands on.

    Incredibly valuable episode. After watching this I figure that given half a chance anyone could survive indefinitely in a place like this. ( Obviously there are always curve balls ....) The family and I watched over supper. Hopefully the lessons learned will never need to be used to survive, however experience teaches that strange things can happen.

      Nah its a bad video with some absolutely horrible moments and advice or just stupid actions - no shelter, relying on coconuts for water which you can get unlucky with easily, running in water which can break a leg or damage/cut you badly, cutting yourself due to HORRIBLE knife use and discipline... He goes right after food too, while in actual survival its barely important, you can live many months with minimal scavenging mostly off reserves (not that you should), finding sustainable water, getting shelter, warding off bugs and animals, making stuff to avoid sunburn is all far higher priority.

      you will be surprised how hostile nature is when is comes to survival,
      there is no time for watching beautiful sunsets or relaxing on the beach.
      finding food and dry wood, fighting against animals, monkeys, lizards, ants spiders, scorpions, mosquitos and what not
      beautiful nature, ofc but only on holiday or pictures/movies.
      several times i have seen people to go to the forest at dawn to collect fire-wood (because day-time was beach-time), and then got lost in the forest crying for help.
      was surprised they even survived their "adventure", knowing what was in this jungle: leopards, cobras, huge centipeds, big wild boars, spiderwebs everywhere
      nature is fun, yes :)

      as if fighting to survive a life-threatening situation is fun.
      did it, and can tell you it is not about sitting on the beach, make fire at night and play the didgeridoo.
      there is not much time to admire the environment. palmtrees loose their beauty when you see them all the time, esp when they have no nuts to harvest.
      deserted island are deserted for a reason, mostly because of no water.

    Even though I am an elderly man (65), for me this would be the easiest survival scenario I could find myself in, especially if I somehow was able to survive the plane crash without sustaining injury. From 1980-1993 I lived and worked on the South Pacific islands of American Samoa as a young man. And fortunately having family from there, (my biological father was a Samoan chief) I was able to take advantage of and immerse myself in the culture, lifestyle and survival skills of the Samoan people. Yes, i thought it was risky to run over the rocks for the fish, risking injury.

    I liked what you did l think rock circle in tidal pool for catching fish is less work just check on each low tide and after water shelter and Fire. And I would have grabbed that reef shark two days of flake beautiful. Great video thumbs up.

    Around 7:23 when you're talking about eating the greens to have a balance diet, it honestly sounds like a man says yep in an agreeing tone. Kinda nuts to think that could be the pilots spirit.

    I have experienced to sleep in the sand on a large towel...there are times that its really cold near the beach, even with a bon fire...yap...medium rare large fish...with sprinkled salt and lemon....rice and soup !....for sure...we'll do it again in Kona Hawaii...with my friends.

    Hi Strick, I'm glad you showed the realistic side of catching food. It is never easy. I thought you might cortorise the cut with an ember and I am glad you didn't. André in Sydney

      If he did he would have a massive blister on his thumb which would get infected and require serious attention. You don’t cauterise cuts.

    Starting under that water was incredible, never seen someone actually tried going underwater to fish and it's a great example of your athletic ability.

    Great video. I love your persistence trying to get that fish. Glad to see it paid off for you. You should have captured the shark instead, that would be more meat.

    a tip for open the coconuts with a small knife: 1- punch the knife into the top of the fruit, across the fibers ( perpendicular to the fibers ). 2- Then rotate the fruit while holding the knife steady. also, the sprout coconuts have a sponge inside that is sweet and oily.

    People have no idea how hard it is to start a friction fire until they actually try to do it. It's about 90% hard work and 10% luck.
