My biggest problem with the Expansion Pack is that it's an exclusively online subscription service instead of downloading games to your local storage. I don't understand why people aren't talking about how the subscription service is a worse value for us consumers long-term. If you buy a DLC separate, that's it, you bought it and it's yours. But if you get the DLC through the expansion pass, then you're really just forking over $50/year to maintain access the same DLC that could've been had for a smaller one-time purchase. Same with the n64 games too. The fact that you have to have an internet connection is really frustrating. Why not let players just download the games to their actual console? I tried to play Majora's Mask on a flight once and was disappointed that I couldn't pick up from my last save without being connected to Switch Online, but if it were just downloaded to my console, internet connection wouldn't matter. I'd way rather buy my favorite n64 games individually rather than have to continue paying $50/year. Especially if you go through cycles of playing n64 games and then not touching them for a bit like me. Then you're just paying $50/year merely to have access to those games in case you want to play them. Imo, that's clearly a bad value for consumers and I think Nintendo knows that, they're just capitalizing on what they believe to be a more profitable model.

Buying individual games will cost you a lot in the long run because you can't resell them at the same value, the membership makes sense if you want to play not just one game but multiple games. So, it depends on a person and their preferences.

By now in late 2022. One time. It's worth it. I dropped $80 on the Family plan so my wife could play on her Switch and have played countless hours of Mario Kart 64, Ocarina of Time and Mario 64. Looking forward to Goldeneye 007, Mario Party and more Pokémon games. However I likely won't renew my NSO Expansion Pak in late 2023.
These N64 games are incredible. But over 12 months, you get your fill of the ones you enjoy playing. I would rather just own the handful of games I play on the Expansion Pak then pay for another 12 months.

Nintendo sat on their thumbs for years and let their old-school fan base grow accustomed to emulation and roms. For them to come out and expect us to pay $50 to *rent* N64 games is an uphill battle (for me anyway) given how easy it is to play the games for free.
If I could just *buy* N64 games on Switch, for $5-$20, I’d be all over this, but just to rent with a subscription? No.

Watching them play the games I played at their age was just so cool. And then looking like a complete badass to them when I helped them beat stuff because you know I have thousands of hours on these games lmao not only that being able to play the Zelda series is a huge one for me. going back through AOT and MM. Plus like you said the DLC is nice. Not only that growing up I never had a SEGA. So being able to play those games that I really only got to play at my friends house back in the day that had them is super cool. There's a price for nostalgia. and ill happily pay it. its also gonna save us money because we unlocked a TON of games for the kids to play. We wont have to buy them new games for a while now they keep going from game to game because they have so many to choose from so that saves money also! I'm was looking for an online service for my 5 year old I'm buying a Switch for Christmas and I'm not sure if it's worth it. He'd love the Nintendo 64, the Genesis, Super Nintendo and Nintendo games you could end it there. They can keep all three expansions, maybe shave $15 off and I'd be happy.

Switch is about portability, it's small, compact, you don't have to bother with installing emulators, connecting controllers etc. So you either prefer saving the money while sacrificing the comfort or you already have a switch and $50 a year is nothing compared to what you paid for the actual device granted you are interested in what the service has to offer obviously. So keep your opinion to yourself mr cheapskate and continue pirating content online while complaining about stuff no one asks you to commit to.

idk if it is but their online service should not cost anywhere near xbox's. I know a lot of ppl are content with nostalgia and lone wolf gaming but I just don't think their price can be near xbox's with the lack of being able to get online and invite friends to a group chat (without a phone lol). You can make friends so easily on xbox due to voice chat, LFGs, clubs etc. When I bought a switch a few years ago I assumed it would have these things, but I was wrong. I aslo assumed well maybe they'll add it later. Once again, wrong. I pay for the base family plan to play with some friends I met on xbox but I dont really even play the switch because of the way it is overall. I heard someone say $50. Not worth it.
