I have the 8 qt and want to cook 5 lbs potatoes. Is 1 cup of water enough or should I add extra water since I am cooking 5 lbs potatoes?
Okay Iâm back. I figured since 5 lbs is 1.666 times 3 lbs I would add 1.25 cups of water. I multiplied the other ingredients by 1.666 and rounded up because who doesnât like butter and cream? I added way more pepper. And then granulated garlic. By that time I was off the rails and threw in a few handfuls of grated cheddar cheese. Those are some really good mashed potatoes and really quick and easy. I will do them like that for now on.

I made this tonight per your recipe. Please, please, please...drain the water off first. I wasted a bunch of potatoes! I never threw mashed potatoes away before. I tried to save it with boursin...cream...and even sour cream. Watered down mashed taters...not!
That's too bad you had this experience. I've not had that problem and I make these all the time. But I guess if you look into the pot after the potatoes are cooked and it looks like too much water was put in, you could pour some off first then add it back.
