    As an ex North Melbourne player I always hoped he would return to coach the club one day. He could have set the place up for success, but unfortunately that never happened. By far the best coach in the last 20 years. The handover to Mitchell was foreshadowed some time ago, so hardly a bombshell.

    The only way it can work is for the highest levels of football management to gather all the players, Clarko and Sam in one room and tell them straight, this is Clarko's team until the end of next year. His voice is the only voice, and then pull Sam aside and tell him if you want things done a certain way, to develop players in certain positions for instance you run it by Clarko. Surely two grown men with so much success acheived together can work together to get this right.

    Kennet is a grub. They have just said to Clarkson we will honour your contract but clock on every day. They are hoping that Clarkson finds it humiliating and walks out. Hawthorn then doesnt have to pay him out. They want Clarkson to breach his contract and resign.

He was influential with the Eagles midfield in 2018 that hasn't shown the same aptitude since and has so far done a really good job at Box Hill. I would love for the succession plan to play out because one more year as assistant under Clarko and Box Hil coach would be ideal for Mitch.

  • @cryptozuu9144
    @cryptozuu9144 Před 3 lety

    I think the Hawthorn board had right scenario in mind. No one has mentioned the fact that Kennett and board felt that the next piece of silverware may be more than 5 years away. In that case, they couldn't rely on the fact the Clarko would stay beyond that next period. And by then, the club may have gone 11 or 12 seasons without a flag under Clarko. Appointing Mitchell was insurance that he could go the distance, perhaps get a flag in 5 years but more likely, grab one in the next 10. I think both Thompson at Geelong and Hardwick at Richmond scored in their 8th year. It may take that long for Mitchell and maybe too long for Clarko.
    My guess is that Clarko's next appointment would be with a list that is little more advanced than the one he inherited at Hawthorn. If he wants to stay in Melbourne then there are only two clubs that I can see that would be looking to appoint a coach in the next 18 months rather than continue to invest in the current coach and that is Collingwood and Carlton. Carlton would be the best fit in my mind but they would have to appoint him at the end of the season and break the succession plan at Hawthorn. I can't see the Blues telling Teague that we'll see how you go in 2022 then sack him and appoint Clarko at the end of next season.
