It's a pretty easy build, but someone's cut all the wires in the cab, so that's where most of the time would go.:) Might end up finding another cab with the wiring harness, or buy another harness.:)
The dip in the frame for the cab seems like it would work against you for this engine and cab combo. Going to an F-650 would get you straight frame rails and a traditional medium duty suspension with 22.5 tires. School buses can also be a cheap source for a straight medium duty frame if you don’t mind cutting off the excess length.
Yes you're right, it really need straight frame rails.:) F-650-750 will probably be the frame of choice.:) I'll be shopping around for a deals for something like this. Maybe even the school bus as they do come up for auction for a decent price.:)
The truck would be pretty cool. What is the bed going to be like? Also, I love the Allis-Chalmers high low. My 04 gmc sierra 2500hd duramax lb7 4x4 I painted Allis-Chalmers orange. 😊
@detroitgarage9430 Nice. Are you keeping it single axle in the rear or going to add a trailer axle? Either way would be neat. I can't wait to hear that Detroit go. They are a beautiful music making machine. Obviously I don't know if you know of a fella name Wayne that has a channel also, called ol2stroker. It's for the most part all he works on is junk (his words). Lol Detroit diesels. If you run into any issues. He would be someone I personally most definitely would reach out to. I know a lot of stuff but mostly cars and pick up trucks. No Detroits or big diesels. But I know I could figure it out. Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing your projects and the hard work. It's greatly appreciated from this side of the screen. 😉 Ps, stay warm as I sit in sunny Florida. 😎
@@2dogsmowing Thanks, Yes I know Wayne and have known him since 2009.:) He used to be on an old forum called 4BTSwaps before facebook.:) Be keeping the single axle.:)
@detroitgarage9430 good deal. He seems like a really good dude. I live to far south to have a chance run in with him or you. That's what I was figuring with the axles. Don't make it more complicated then it needs to be. Lol
What are you going to use as a bed for the Diamond T project? Also, how do you link two transmissions together, I have seen an Eaton 5 speed main and 4 speed auxiliary on a CZcams channel of a school bus enthusiast, where he swapped that into his bus.
I think I'm going with a flat bed as apposed to a conventional box, but that could change once I get a good look at the cab and chassis. The two transmission will be joined by a universal joint and a second stick to shift the aux. Front box will be an Eaton FSO 6406 six speed and the aux box either a 3 or 4 speed. A 3 speed Spicer 5831 is probably enough. That will give me double overdrive.:)
I'd probably use the front mount of the 6V53 and mount it to the front cross member. Have to build out the cross member forward to support the weight. For the rear I'd use the crossmember to hold up the trans. I swapped a 4-53T into my 2009 F350 and decided on making engine mounts similar to what you'd find on a Cummins. I used the 6.4 mount locations and that worked really well. Around the oil cooler on the 6V53 and the steering box is a busy place.:)
Sorry, to bring this up, ( kind of ) but I am wondering what the heck do you do for a living, in order to do all this work? It cost's money to do this, and to pay rent on the facility, to pay yourself etc.etc.
Lol, no problem.:) I'm a retired airline pilot for 7 years now and this is what I do for fun.:) Yes it cost money to do this, but I buy most, if not all this stuff for scrap prices. I don't pay rent as I own the shop and I don't pay myself anything.:) It's just for fun and keeps me busy while my kids are in school.:)

Probably the 378 hood, or try and make a copy of the old 1949 model 260. Being the cabs haven't really changed that much is size, I think it would really good.:)
I actually love the way it looks. I'd love to see that 6V71 working in something too. Nice work my friend. 💪🔥

I got the 453 troagin loader idle perfect now ,stuck plunger thanks so much

6v71 would look good in a Peterbilt.
I think it's a great match.:)
Cab looks low on the flywheel housing depending on the trans bell housing size
Yes, the cab would have to be raised enough to fit the hood and moved back.:)

the 6V71 is to big to use?
Not for the Peterbilt pickup, it's about the perfect size. I'd probably have to go with an F-650-750 straight frame for this project.:)
6v53
I do have a 6V53, but have yet to rebuild it. Would also make a great engine for this build.:)
