      They're great engines, my 4-53T is 43 years old and driven daily. I hope to have this 6V71 into a chassis in two to three years.:) It's a brand new engine that was never used after overhaul.:) Thanks for watching.:)

    I love the sound of the 8v71 and 8v92 more, but the sound of the 6v71 reminds me of a GM 3800 v6

    That engine would probably run for the next ten years sitting right there if you let it. You lucky guy to have a friend who would hook you up with that fine machine!

      That would be awesome, I was looking for a 6V92T, but this engine was given to me so I'll use it. I hope to squeeze 300 HP and 700 FTLBS of torque from it. Should sound really nice.

    I just bought a 671 and got another complete one as a parts engine free with it. How can you tell what year these engines are? The one that runs came out of an oil field truck and has an Allison 4460 behind it. It also has a nice V 4 air compressor on it.

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před 6 měsíci

      There's a serial number on the block and one on valve cover tag.:) Sometimes the tag/id plate get removed.:)

    • @kevinj2412
      @kevinj2412 Před 6 měsíci

      @@detroitgarage9430 The serial number is 6A0144162 and the model is 1063-7000 I looked for some info on finding the exact year, but didn't see anything. Also I wanted to ask if the rack can be converted to the safety type? All the injectors are free and it is suppose to run and the guy said it had just had new N70 injectors put in it. I'm just learning about these and appreciate all your info.

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před 3 lety +5

      Bad injector, I had to use a 5A60 in place of an N65 that I could not free up. I’ll build a good N65 and replace the 5A60.:)

    What accessory is the belt and pulley at the back of the blower for?

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před 3 lety +1

      That's the seal and drive coupler for the blower itself, the two access covers below to the left and right of the blower are for accessories. I'll probably use one for the compressor and the other for the alternator.:)

    Detroit Diesels: You can abandon them for 40 years, drop a nuke on them, and they'll still turn over and fire on no more than a Taco Fart 🤣

    You don't have to plug exhaust ports after running? Or not warmed up enough?

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před 2 lety +1

      No I've never plugged the exhaust here as we live in a desert, so very low humidity. The previous owner plugged the intake and exhaust ports, but he was down on the coast with high humidity. I'll be starting it up again in a few weeks to help keep things lubricated.:) Thanks for watching.:)

      @detroitgarage9430  Před 2 lety

      @@wrenchguy No, that's not an issue with Detroits.:) Only issue is running low on coolant and overheating the heads. This causes the heads to crack.:)

    @lukestrasser Před 3 lety

    Mr Detroit, all it needs now is some N140 injectors a bypass blower, and 2 turbo's! What injectors are in it now? N55's or maybe HV6?

    • @lukestrasser
      @lukestrasser Před 3 lety

      I saw in your other replies that it has N65's in it. I stand by my statement that it needs N140's! I might settle for N90s!

    • @detroitgarage9430
      @detroitgarage9430  Před 3 lety +3

      True, I think I'm going with N90's or something similar. The plan is for a single K31 set to 15 psi with an intercooler and bypassed blower. Hope to squeeze out 300HP and 650-700 FTLBS of torque.:)

    • @detroitgarage9430

      I thought the same thing when I first saw that. Looks more like air mixed in getting whipped up through the valve train. Oil in the pan is still honey clean, but will keep an eye on that. I'll certainly know when I pull the valve covers this after noon.:)
