Note: We have made a mistake in writing the name of former Vice President Hamid Ansari.
In an interview where he speaks his mind without recourse to euphemism, India’s former Vice President has said secularism is critical to the integrity of the country and its steady weakening is endangering India’s future. Mr. Hamid Ansari has also said India’s 15% muslim population is hurt by the prejudice they face and feel they are being ill-treated. He says he is worried about India’s future but he hopes that things will change.

That's fine, but please do ask all Indian Muslim politicians one question- "What steps did they take to give worldly education to their community, and how come the second largest community in the country is still in a miserable condition, even after more than 70 years of freedom?"
Most of them have been miserably failing to do anything constructive as far as the upliftment (worldly progress) is concerned.
Wake up, accept the reality, show love for this world, equip your kids with worldly education, get emerged in the society you're a member of and contribute to the growth and development of the nation, the society and yourself.

Classic Hindutva of tactics of blaming the victims? What has YOUR community done to diseminate "wordly education"? You have disenfranchised, exploited, subverted, and replaced science, reason and secular rationality with jingoism, and supernatural claims to exceptionalism. Who are you to decide if they are in a miserable condition? How many muslims do you hear lynching other people because they are from a different caste? "Wordly education" is not a concept that any serious academic ever discusses, at least none that I have heard through ten years at various graduate schools across three continents. Pick up a book by an actual academic -- Noam Chomsky, Amartya Sen, Irfan Habib -- and then come back with some actual, verifiable arguments that show awareness of the basic principles of political economy.

The one from Kanyakumari knows and travels to Ketaranath for his Dharma and the Kashmiri Pundit travels to Rameswaram for the same reason! They may speak many different languages but they had Sanskrit to communicate, the language that was deracinated by the invaders! What is prevailing is a civilizational conflict of survival by the natives over the imported and foreign and their complicit! It is bound to lead to conflict of ideology on account of it and it is a fight worth fighting for! The problem is two-fold:
    1. Many Indian Muslims still live in the zamindari hangover. They aren't skilled and capable enough to do a good job and they consider themselves too much better for the lowly jobs. The reason behind the fact that a large chunk of Muslim population still remains unskilled can be discussed.
    2. Muslims are expected to be loyal to the constitution but the majority community has very cleverly converted loyalty towards their religion equivalent to loyalty towards the constitution. We are often faced with the question asking us to choose between our religion and the constitution. This question in itself is foolish. But how come never ever has anyone from the majority community been asked this question? Inspite of the fact that many leaders of the ruling BJP can openly spew venom against Muslims and call them outsiders and yet get the votes clearly explains the fact how muchwho is loyal towards the constitution.

Constitution never jelled with us for the reason because our history shows that majority is backward so far as pure Scientific temper is concerned. Plural society cannot be united without education to the effect that religion is rather personal affair and its values are not meant to be amplified as universal. Pinde Pinde Matirbhimnaah Munde kunde Nvam Payah ………..This first Line of a subhashit is an example of Scientific temper of Hindus far back when western science had arrived but we never followed it in a organised manner. We failed to realise as a nation that our polity should cater to needs of all rather than that of majority for the simple reason the majority itself is divided. Politicians have invented Hindutva as an ideology which never existed at ground level.Perhaps it rested on the lack of political icon for the Hindus in near past . But Muslims had several ikons. The only way was to sully their images in the eyes of Hindu majority. It was like breaking the idols which was the way of the victor in past regimes against the defeated.Murtibhanjak of past are now Hindus who took pleasure in destroying a dilapidated structure called Babri Masjid. It is interesting to note that the structure was not destroyed even when the Moghul power declined and Maratha power ruled up to Delhi. Ram mandir shall become a national monument with false glamour feeding the majority that true Ramrajya had arrived.

Wow, Karan! You asked "did that happen in the last 8 years?" so many times, and Ansari only had to nod. What an interview!
Ansari accuses the majority (Hindu) population of being unfair to Muslims. But we can put up a counterargument that it's the Muslims who are othering Hindus! How many Hindu MLAs and MPs get elected from Muslim pockets? Why are Muslims _officially_ barred from greeting Hindus on their festivals, or eating prasad/sweets? Why are there so many incidents of stone-pelting and arson after Friday prayers? Why do Muslims insist on disrupting life by blocking public spaces for _namaz_ (blocking of public roads, malls, railway stations, etc)?
And worst of all, why are there horrific incidents of throat-slitting by Muslims, which is celebrated by many other Muslims?
Can you blame Hindus for being traumatized by this??
Islamophobia is just like the fear of shark attacks. Both fears are emotional trauma caused by *availability bias,* which is inbuilt in humans. These fears are developed because of real-life gory incidents.
You cannot blame a victim for being traumatized! You cannot drive away the fear by pointing out that such incidents are rare, and we are unlikely to encounter them in our own life.
Therefore, we have to accept Islamophobia as a ground reality. The onus of eliminating Islamophobia lies with the Muslim leaders and clergy, who must work hard to create a very kind image of Muslims.
As regards LS/RS being dysfunctional, I would submit that it is ridiculous to put 250/545 people under one roof to have any meaningful discussion among them. The debate must be designed to address each point separately, and it would take a lot of to-and-fro discussion to settle each point.
But the current practice is to take turns to give winding speeches! That method cannot find a solution for each objectionable point in a bill. In fact, the TV footage of LS/RS clearly shows that the MPs only waste time by jeering and heckling while someone is giving a speech.
Thus, the LS/RS process was never good, right from the beginning!
The solution is to use modern technology, and carry out all debating online. During COVID times, many people worked from home, and their productivity actually increased. Likewise, the MPs also can be effective without attending the LS/RS sessions!
There are many effective online tools such as Debategraph, Kiallo, Arguman, etc., which can be used by all MPs. Let the public see the entire debate graph! The most critical advantage is that every individual MP can raise any number of points, all of which must be rebutted; and no point can be ignored.
That means even a tiny opposition is reassured that their objections would have to be fairly dealt with. The bills cannot be pushed through with a brute majority or with rhetorical speeches.
There won't be any demonstrations, disruptions or walk-outs!

Karan, you always and relentlessly discuss and rant on Muslims, secularism, and minority's rights. Have you ever discussed upon the Hindu psyche and insecurities. Muslims taken away 1/3 of this country with 23% Muslim population. Now they are again going to be 23%. So are the Indian Muslims have become more secular and liberal than they were in 1947?
I expect you to debate these issues with some competent personalities honestly.

Very qualified discussion…Critical to we the people of the nation. We have given up our lives….blindly electing and not questioning the elected . We think the elected are our Mai-baap. This is not freedom ,this is like electing the jailor to control our homes…our children’s…our parents/wife/siblings/future… I.e.crumble our rights n freedom.

All ; specifically Muslim should OR must get educated . Study First social science and humanities and then whatever for their careers. Understanding society we live in is as important as we breathe oxygen , freely from environment. We have lost to cherish the sacrifices and freedom struggle. We and most of the lot of ruling people ( I don’t call them leaders) ,just want to propel themselves on the countries resources ( incl. corruption of money ; power; religious bigotry, manpower).. Too late!!!!? Not sure…!!? Can I commit ?Seems complacent ..no spine?!! Just words….!. It’s all easy to b blind n njoy, and let the future pay d price for being born on the earth.. :(

Did you ever think of Indians who are minority in USA and many times victim of systematic discrimination. But we take this on our stride and work so hard that makes us the most educated community. If you are discriminated then work hard. Rather than asking alms from majority. खुदी को कर बुलंद इतना कि हर तक़दीर से पहले खुदा बंदे से ये पूछे बता तेरी रज़ा क्या है

Karan- can you ask this question.
    Why must India be secular.
    Muslim countries can be Muslim.
White man can be Christian. India is a Hindu rashtra. We are Dharmic . .
