EP-96 | What is Sanatana Dharma? Advocate and noted author J Sai Deepak explains

  • A political slugfest erupted soon after Udhayanidhi Stalin, a Tamil Nadu minister and son of Chief Minister MK Stalin, made a controversial statement comparing ‘Santana Dharma’ to diseases like Malaria, dengue and corona as he called for eradication of the faith. The statement by the Tamilnadu minister has led to registration of FIRs against him as well as a seer from Ayodhya announcing a bounty on his head. But the question remains why someone sitting in a high seat of power would say something like that and what are the reasons behind the uproar by political parties. In this edition of ANI Podcast with Smita Prakash, noted author and engineer turned litigator J Sai Deepak, who has written two voluminous well-researched books on Indian civilisation, decodes all aspects of Dravidian Politics, its history and the conflict with Sanatana Dharma and explains the reasons behind the statement by Udhayanidhi. In an in-depth conversation with Smita Prakash, J. Sai Deepak talks about the origins of Dravidar Kazhagam and Justice party founded by E. V. Ramasamy and how these organisations led the foundation of Dravidianism in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Sai also talks about the secessionist activities undertaken by a few Dravidian organizations and how they opposed home rule for India.

I am ashamed as a tamilian that people of my state chose to maintain silence as usual. People like sudha sheshayyan, desamangayarkarasi the disciple of variyar swamigal all chose silence again. They might even get on stage again to praise these hypocrites.
Here is what I have decided.
    1. Teach sanatana dharma to my kids with even more sincerity.
    2. Learn sanskrit. I am tired of various interpretations given by people.
    3. Boycott all the business ventures of the dravidian movement be it tv channels as well as movies.

To simplify the concept, Tamil actor Vijay Sethupathi often used to say that believe in God and don't believe The god are saved by us.
      often heard everywhere like this.
But we are all believers in God. We do not trust those who depend on God for their livelihood
This approach reflects the influence of moderation and social justice ideals passed down by our ancestors, which form the basis of our anti-Sanatana stance.
In Tamil Nadu, even young children reject notions of superiority or inferiority based on birth. The state has embraced a culture of equality and inclusivity.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is a secular party known for its agnostic approach, upholding the principles of fairness and integrity in governance. It works diligently to ensure equal opportunities and progress for all its citizens through initiatives in education and societal advancement.

Everything is a distraction caused to create publicity like what stalins son is doing as he is low on popularity, and if you still follow that then you will become emotionally and morally week. If you believe in politicians then your life is doomed and the people who are debating are just paid cheerleaders.
DMK, ADMK, BJP, Communist party and congress party are all in the same team in the background, which is team ambhani, adhani, vedante, Agarwal, tata, amazon and other mega industries, as the politicians in these parties are working closely for the their own profits. The voters and people who believe them are just arrogant, ignorant and are completely immature as i have seen several different politicians having business conversations directly in real estate, liquor deals, factory deals and these politicians invite their rivals to their family wedding. Only very few politicians have rivalry like 1% or 2% and the rest are just distracting common people and voters as they know they have to survive this game by playing it together. Lots of highly corrupt criminal politicians in congress and other politicians have already joined BJP and they have still good contact with their previous party members. Its all business and the game is played wisely as the voters and common citizens can be emotionally manipulated.

      2. The Kshatriyas would protect and govern brahmins, kshatriyas, vaishtas, shudras.
      3. Similarly, Vaishyas, the traders traded and provided loans to every class- Brahmins, Vaishyas, Shudras, Kshatriyas.
      4. The shudras- who were the artisans and labourers worked for everyone Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, Shudras.
This is how every civilised society works as a whole.
The problem started later was when it became birth-based and hierarchical in nature, which is essentially called as nepotism today. When Udaynidhi Stalin himself is the product of such birth-based nepotistic practice, what caste practice will he eliminate. Further, he never talked about caste system specifically, rather he called for eradication of entire Sanatan Dharma altogether.
These divisive ideas of caste were propagated by multiple personalities in our history, to create a division and gain political power. It completely depends on individual intelligence to observe and decide which one is the correct narrative. Most importantly, let's keep the goal of welfare of people of this nation in our mind while choosing to believe a unifying narrative rather than a divisive narrative.

But India is a secular democratic country where the constitution protects the rights of people. In front of law everyone is equal. It protects the rights of people to have education and allows them to work in any field. DMK stands by the rights of all people. It wants all people to have education. It is a reminder to all of us on how easy it is to manipulate large groups of people and destroy ancient cultures and civilisations (how easy it is to lose something of great value). If the invaders can cause this much devastation to our old way of life in such a short span of time then we have to look deeply (and critically) at ourselves - at our own people - who have been so willing to conspire (cooperate with the colonisers) to destroy their own culture and values. The Persians, Egyptians, Sumerians, Greeks, Mayans, Native Americans, Africans - all these ancient cultures and civilisations died at the hands of the coloniser (invader) - they lost their old religion, way of life, literature, history and identity. It seems like Bharat is hanging to some of its past while being torn from within (torn by its own people who are now doing the work of the coloniser).
Every society (big or small) has its flaws and problems (no society is perfect) but it seems in Bharat, we the people tend to do the greatest harm to ourselves (we seem to like shooting ourselves in the foot). We have lost all connection to nature, Dharma, Rta and the various philosophies that link us to the Divine Consciousness. Even today we let the worst of leaders and ideologies divide us and wreck us - it tells us how when we lose Dharma we lose everything (everything of value). If you read Srimad Bhagavatam - the opening dialogue between Sri Krishna and his friend Uddhava is one where Krishna tells Uddhava that noble people like you Uddhava should not stay long in Kali Yuga because it is an age of great conflict, sin and decadence. It is a sign of the times we live in (predicted long long ago).
My only hope is in the words of Swami Vivekananda who (before his passing) predicted a bright future for Bharat 400 years from now - I live in the hope his words will come true one day, that Dharma will rise again, although the present situation in India doesn't inspire confidence.

In ancient India, people were free to choose their Varna according to their interest and qualities... Valmiki was a Shudra but he had the ability to grasp knowledge and he became a Brahman and he recorded the life events of Sri Rama in Ramayana... The mother of Veda Vyasa who wrote the history of the Kuru family in Mahabharat was from the fisherman community... A Shudra could become a Brahmin, a Brahmin could become a Shudra and so on... As you said Please do this session in Tamil also..... The Brahmin ridicule in Tamil Nadu came from UN-touchability practiced by Brahmins and separating themselves from other community. I grew up with Brahmin family both sides of my house and as a child i as water to drink, they would give in plastic mug which we use in bathrooms. not in the tumblers. even now we see lots of these un-touchable activities around brahmin community. That is the reason majority of non-brahmins have taken the view point that they are superior communiy as they themselves project that way. Basically all tamilians are Hindus and we are proud of being one.

That is not untouchablity. That is Jaati exclusivism. That exists among almost all the Jaatis. You will lots of non-Brahmins and non-Brahmin Jaatis too, practicing the same. Including the so-called lower caste communities too. Then why singling out Brahmins alone?
If you're justifying Dravidian atrocities against Brahmins by pointing out to social exclusivism by Brahmins for non-Brahmins then let me tell you that in Tamil Nadu and rest of India, non-Brahmin jaatis have practiced the same. This includes the so-called lower caste communities too. The reasons for this exclusivism varies. It can be either because of by community itself or cuz of positive and negative discrimination. This is the case with almost all the Jaatis in most India. Even all this also varies.
BTW, I'm a Rajput of Vatsa Chauhan kul. I'm from Haryana. Our community is very endogamous and many people still are exclusivist. Today, things have changed. As I've non-Rajput distant family members and relatives too. My best friends are non-Rajputs and many of them are from backward jaatis. Yes, endogamy is still prevalent. But even this is also dying now.

Having grown up in the North, yet strongly rooted in Tamil culture, we frequently visited the South, & had tabs about local developments. But I still faced adjustment issues when I did my graduation in Chennai, because the ideological barriers is so strong, it's difficult to penetrate that. I am fortunate I grew up with a mixed culture, where we are staunchly Tamil in our lifestyle yet we are able to mix outside very fluidly. Such mix of culture is absolutely essential for national integration.

I come from a Tamil Brahmin background in the southern region. During my schooling in the 1990s, I faced daily mockery and isolation from both students and teachers due to my Brahmin heritage, accent, and traditions. To avoid ridicule, I even concealed my nombu charadu beneath my uniform. We were made to bear the weight of our ancestors' actions, despite having no involvement or knowledge of them. Many schools were under the influence of missionaries, who converted numerous students. Teachers often collected money for missionary work, and this trend continued into engineering colleges. Christian students often received special privileges, which seemed normal to many Hindus. It was only after hearing a speech by Tejaswi Surya following the 2014 elections, where he urged Hindus to feel unapologetic, that I realized my past struggles were not a result of my karma. Times have since changed, and Hindus have become more aware, with credit attributed to the current central government.

I was called with different names by their parents irrespective being a bright student, they telling them not to eat the food i bring, while i was hearing (even vegetarian food), not to give things on their hand and to place it on a table. @@seethabedhikormastklgram DR BR AMBEDKAR REJECTED THE ARYAN INVASION THEORY....U ARE NOT AS GREAT AS HIM.
German Indologist Max Muller popularized the Aryan Invasion theory (AIT) in 1853 CE.
If the Aryans were outsiders, why din’t they name places outside India as their most holy places, once they ‘conquered’ India? Why did they sing praises and bestowed the status of goddesses and gods to peninsular India’s numerous rivers and mountains. If Aryans were outsiders why did they consider India as the ‘holy land’ and not their original land as the ‘holy land’ or motherland? For the Muslims, their holy place is Mecca. For the Catholics it is Rome or Jerusalem. For the Hindus, their pilgrim centers range from Kailash in the North, to Rameshwaram in the South; and from Hingalaj (Sindh) in the West to Parushuram kund (Arunachal Pradesh) in the East. The seven holy cities of Hinduism include Kanchipurum in the south, Dwarka in the west and Ujjain in central India. The seven holy rivers glorified in the Vedic scriptures chart out the map of the holy land. The Rivers Saraswati, Sindhu, Ganga and the Yamuna originate from the Himalayas and move towards the different oceans. River Narmada starts in central India and the Godavari starts in western India, while the Kaveri winds its way through the south to move into the southern sea. No Hindu from any part of India has felt a stranger in any other part of India when on a pilgrimage.
The Puzzle of Indo-European Origins’ by Colin Renfrew, Prof. of Archaeology at Cambridge and also ‘The Mythical Massacre at Mohenjo-daro’, Expedition Vol VI by Prof. GF Dales (former head of department of South Asian Archaeology and Anthropology, Berkeley University, USA) state:
“Nine years of extensive excavations at Mohenjo-daro (1922-31) - a city of three miles in circuit - yielded the total of some 37 skeletons, or parts thereof, that can be attributed with some certainty to the period of the Indus civilizations. Some of these were found in contorted positions and groupings that suggest anything but orderly burials. They were all found in the area of the Lower Town - probably the residential district. Not a single body was found within the area of the fortified citadel where one could reasonably expect the final defense of this thriving capital city to have been made. Where are the burned fortresses, the arrow heads, weapons, pieces of armour, the smashed chariots and bodies of in the invaders and defenders? Despite the extensive excavations at the largest Harappan sites, there is not a single bit of evidence that can be brought forth as unconditional proof of an armed conquest and the destruction on the supposed scale of the Aryan invasion.

      2. The Kshatriyas would protect and govern brahmins, kshatriyas, vaishyas, shudras.
To a larger extent, the nation has successfully managed to remove caste based hierarchies- the person of every caste can be an IAS officer, a pilot, an actor, a painter, an armed personnel or a sculptor.
These divisive ideas of caste were propagated by multiple personalities in our history, to create a division and gain political power. It completely depends on individual intelligence to observe and decide which one is the correct narrative. Most importantly, let's keep the goal of welfare of people of this nation in our mind while choosing to believe a unifying narrative rather than a divisive narrative.

this is the explanation of a half bakedperson who has mistakenly understood the essence of varna. A brahmin is qualified as a bramin if he is s teacher, or well versed in scriptures or a priest ( in the correct sense) etc. Not bcoz of birth or caste etc.Illrly the others like vaisya, kshatriya etc. And not the way this man says in all ignorance.

You are born into a jati( caste or sub group of a diverse population that has it own cultures n traditions n sometimes own dialects or languages) but you are not born into a Varna system( Brahmin, Kshtriya, Vaishya, Shudra). Geeta 4:13. Based on your occupation/ qualities, you are free to be a Scholar( Brahmins) or a soldier or warrior( Kshtriya), trader , merchant( Vaishya) or a labourer or farm worker( Shudra). No Varna is better than another n a society cannot function without all these occupations or Varnas. Look up a video explaining the difference between Jati( caste) n Varna system.

      3.Vaishyas (agriculturalists, traders, farmers )
      4.Shudras (workers, labourers, artisans)
Apart from all these, finally Dalits (untouchables) come.
This ⬆️⬆️⬆️ is hindu-varna system. It shows only Brahmins can study and other people cannot learn and become intellectuals. Through this classification most of the Hindus would not get education. What kind of a dangerous one is this Varna system. But India is a secular democratic country where the constitution protects the rights of people. In front of law everyone is equal. It protects the rights of people to have education and allows them to work in any field. DMK stands by the rights of all people. It wants all people to have education. And DMK understood very well that, without proper education people would become like animals.

*Sanathana Dharma is 5000 years old.
*The Adhivasis, SC and ST were not allowed to enter temples till 1947.
*That means for 4,925 years, the adhivasi, SC and ST were not allowed even near the compound of the temple.
      * So were they ever Sanathanis ?
For example, if there is a club in your town but you are not allowed to enter the club premises or participate in the club activities, can you call yourself a member of that club ?
It would be foolish to consider yourself a member of that club or be proud of it.
*The Sanathanis who treated the SC/ST as untouchables for 4,900 years are now dictating to the SC and ST which religion they should follow.
All this drama we see now is for votes, for power. The religion nor most of the upper caste people have not changed their attitude towards the SC and ST.
Even today in temples in South India where lunch is served for visitors, a special chamber is allocated for Brahmins and a general hall for non brahmins. When food is served for the non brahmin by the temple staff they do it in such a disrespectful manner but that is not the case when they do it for a brahmin.
