- This is a how to on my color matched side skirts I made at home for only $60!
I looked for some diy body kit style side skirts for my RX7 for a while and finally stumbled upon someone using a PVC rain gutter. There skirts looked ok but I knew I could do it better and for as cheap as the materials were I could afford to screw up.
The skirts are made of PVC rain gutter the I got from the hardware store for $6 for each 10' section. I also used E6000 glue and bondo to smooth it out. Metal plates and double side sticky tape attach it to the car and are strong enough to keep the rock solid. I used automotivetouchup.com to match the body color and protect it with there clear coat. The total cost of paint was about $30 so if you go with a cheaper option like plasti dip you can cut your cost in 1/2. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
props for creativity!
Love this shit I've made my front lip from rain gutter, side diffusers from upvc window ledges and rear spats from plastic boxes
Do you have videos on how you made your side deffusers? ?
Please share a video
Wowww it came out really really nice, your car looks really good!! This is what I've been thinking about doing on my forte versus paying $200+ for the same look. Thanks for sharing.

Looks awesome!

No lie this actually looks super nice
Very cool! Love it!
Thanks man!
Dude mad job!
THIS IS SO COOL
Way better than the other rain gutter skirts I see. Came out badass man. Great job
Thanks man! Ya I thought the idea was good but no one executed it very well at all. Figured id give it a try!
Petrol360 yeah using the pvc ones instead are better too cuz I seen the ones with the metal rain gutters and they're harder to mold and do things to. I'm going to try this on my car and then add some custom touches to it with fiberglass resin and bondo
Heck ya! Hey tag me in a photo of it once you are done id love to see the custom work!
awesome.,. tnx for sharing dude.,.
cool! this is great, I am going to do this to my car cool. the only difference is that I am going to wrap it with vinyl. Great job! 👍
Sweet man! Make sure to send a pic of them when you finish them up! @petrol360 on Instagram or Facebook!

Anyone know song at 2:50 ??
i JUST realized - is the song in the background like a stacy lattisaw remix????? i sware i hear "let me be your angel" in there lmfao
Nice Job, You got the creativity, now you need a little experience in working .. Ya oughta think about learning fiberglass.. It's cheaper than your gutter and it's at your favorite Home Depot.. Styrofoam can be shaped any way you want with a wire brush and sand paper, then fiberglass over it.. A lot of People use Plaster soaked newspaper to form their panels, then fiberglass over it.. After you remove the Styrofoam, you got a One of a Kind body panel..
Man iv been dreaming of doing a wide body kit like that one day, I did 1/2 the work for these in my apartment and the other 1/2 at my brothers garage about 45min away so these were a shot in the dark if this would work but something I could do with my current living situation. Can’t wait to do some custom glass parts though!
Where did you get the wheels? I've been looking for some like that
They are STR racing wheels, they are a cheap brand and heavy as crap but they look decent. I got them used with new tires for less then the wheels alone should cost. I wouldn't spend the money on them new.
I like it to mach but i dont know forom wher shod i buy it can you tele me place of that
im guessing you want to know where to get the gutter from? You can pick it up from any lows or home depot or any big box stores
i know im very late, i wanna do this but are your jack points still accessible?
Yes its been years ago now but the standard jack points for the FC were still relatively easy to get to.
@@Petrol360 thank you
Won't the dirt inside the side skirt cause the body to rust?
Over a really long time (10 years) it might. But everything is painted and protected and I check them often and haven’t seen any dirt buildup yet.
7:25 RIP paint :P Great idea!
Haha if only the paint on the body was worth it! Thanks though!
dope i wanna try this i got an fc 1989 so i know you aint gonna find any skirts for the low looks really clean
Thanks man! Yep I started looking around and was pretty bummed out when I saw all the side skirts for an RX7 were pricey and the cheapest ones were a bit to HotBoy for me. Got lucky and found a photo of someone that did this on a Volvo so I figured id give it a try! Send me a pic when you get them on your car!
forsho i'll send that your way when i get the time to do it lol i said the same thing haha i swear they are i like kits skirts etc but not to wild lookin but i love your rx7 dope!!AF!! -> RX7Gang:)
how do you like the carb compared to fuel injection
Its not bad. Starts every time runs smooth, its just finicky. Have to let it idle for a little before taking off, and it does turn over a few times before starting when it hot. I had no reason to but I got a killer deal on a throttle body self learning efi. Should have it installed and a video out in a month or so.
Petrol360 Yeah I'm just conflicted on either to go carb or efi because I have a 302 short block but I don't have all the efi electronics and stuff plus wiring. so it's as if I want to spend the extra money for it or just go carb but sweet scoring on the efi setup it should be nice!
Ya I went carb at first because I was missing all of the parts and harnesses in order to go efi. If you know how to tune a carb then it should be easy. Plus if you upgrade the motor its much easier and cheaper to tune a carb then efi. I more or less daily my car so efi will make it much easier to just jump and go. Im also hoping to pick up some power and gas millage.
Nice! Yeah that would be alot more help for a daily. Please do a video when you're throwing everything on I love the quality of your vids. Keep it up
Make sure you use a flexible Bondo otherwise it will crack also need a paint with a flex agent as well
Good points! I didn't know they made flexible bondo and flexible paint wasn't available through automotive touch up paint. The bondo has not cracked after a few thousand miles so my fingers are crossed that it stays good. The paint is also holding up well. No chips in the wheel wells which I was expecting by this point. It also helps that the skirts are very stiff so they are not flexing very much causing the paint to crack.
From what I saw what you used was flexible! Don't know about the paint ! Does look Factory !
Haha lucky me, I just grab what the local parts store had. And I just got a can of color matched paint from automotive touch up paint.com not cheap but really does look good. Might get paint from them and do a full respray one day.
How did you, applied to the side
Along the top edge I used 3M extreme outdoor double sided sticky tape. This keeps you from adding any holes to the body of the car. I also used 1" wide metal strip glued to the bottom of the side skirt then drilled the strips into the bottom of the car. I only used 4 strips per side and they are plenty strong.
Gonna try on my mazda 3 hatchback
Heck ya man! Send me a pic when your done, my brother has a 2012 Speed3 and I need to get him to build a set to match his front lip!
What's the music at the beginning
czcams.com/video/nvoMUJRVxmM/video.html
Don't think its copyright free, one of the songs has a copyright but don't know what song is.
Will this work on an S5 Vert?
Should work just fine! This should work on almost any car that has straight rocker panels. Then you just need to heat and bend the ends to fit your car.
those wheels DAMM
You know those things you see on on the door of a gt that says gt, What's that called
You mean like a badge or emblem?
Petrol360 like the black stripe on the bottom of the door that says something
What size rim 17 is that
No they are actuly 18"s they are to big I would love to get a set of 17"s but I got a good deal on them so im happy for now. They are 18x8.5 and +35 on the offset I think.
What's the song in the beginning called?
I wish I knew, its a royalty free song I downloaded a about a year ago.
Petrol360 damn cause this dude I know made a rap song and it uses the same beat but I'm pretty sure he claimed his boys made the beat😂
Nice ya I just found it going through CZcams trying to find some music. Is there a link to his song?
Petrol360 go on sound cloud and look up "my truck" by jake the great
Oh I thought you were talking about my intro song. Ya its just a kendrick lamar mac miller kinda track. Sounds good!
Go Cats 🤙🏾
Gingium should do this
U dont put screws bro just glue?
I used glue to attach the metal hagers to the side skirt to it could flex then self tappers into the bottom of the car.
👍👍👍👍🇬🇧
how installed it??
I used double side sticky tape along the top and tech screws across the bottom.
Do you have the video of how you installed it ?
No I sure don't I had to install them in a parking lot so I really didn't get a chance to grab my camera
Another question, in the video I see that you cut some metal pieces, what are they for?
That's what I used to attach it under the car, I had the 3m double side sticky tape where the skirt meets the body. Then on the bottom edge I glued 1" metal strips that went under the cars rocker panel. I then put screws through the metal and into the bottom of the car. I only used 4 metal strips per side and its really strong on there, better then most people install there real skirts.
Duck tail ideas anyone, I'm 16 and need to racecar the fuck out of my ( Lincoln LS) (V8) no way I'm going to be a ricer so I need to make this mint asf as well
What color is u car bro
Its a factory mazda color. I think its code A1
@@Petrol360 is gold o tan or beige
I would say tan with gold flake in it.
hey man you still have your fc?
It was sold years ago to make room for new projects
Nice car plz remove the "cough cough" rally stripes from the fenders
Not bad for what it is, but the little singletree or "canards" it just absolutely terrible. Hey rid of those n not bad at all 😉👍
