- This is why Leicester Tigers have the most dominant rugby academy in England. Over the last two decades they have produced some of the best rugby players on the planet and their identity is the embodiment of the English rugby ethos: hard-nosed, fast-paced and at times ruthlessly brutal.
The club have a strong tradition of producing home-grown players. Tigers legends Martin Johnson and Graham Rowntree were developed from a strong youth structure and Tigers recognised very early that an Academy system was needed to develop players capable of playing professional rugby. In 1998 the Tigers Academy was established with players such as Harry Ellis, Sam Vesty and Louis Deacon among the first to successfully come through the system. In 2002, Tigers were rewarded for their pioneering work with RFU Academy status.
The programme has produced more than 100 age-grade internationals as well as producing British & Irish Lions caps Tom Croft, Dan Cole, Harry Ellis, Ollie Smith, Manu Tuilagi, and Ben and Tom Youngs. RugbyPass goes behind the scenes of the programme to see what it takes to become a Leicester Tiger; going on a journey with Academy hopefuls over the course of their championship. We see the laughs, we see the pain and we see what it takes to make it at the highest level. RugbyPass presents: ‘The Academy’.

Lads, love the documentary's, but can we actually see some phase play instead of endless slow mo's of half backs and rucks.
init ive been asking for that every week. lets see some actual rugby
This csme out ages ago on the website so all the videos have allready been edited
It was 34-31 in the end but we didn’t get to watch any of the drama?! C’mon guys have your editors never watched a game of rugby before?
Have loved this series it’s a shame this is the last one 🙌❤️
I am actually a BALL BOY at the Leicester tigers and I hope to see some of these guys in the senior (main/league) team soon!
Great game a lot better then last week's the team worked in every part of the field together. Looking forward to the next game.
Loved it.
Brilliant insight into something I have no knowledge of ( I never had the opportunity to play rugby ) never seen before. Congratulations boys!
Interesting approach to their Academy culture. Didn't show a lot of fitness work in the video. But the belief level amongst the players is healthy and in good shape.
Eh?
A fantastic academy, but unfortunately the men’s team isn’t the powerhouse it used to be.
the academy isn't that good either to be honest, U17 and under is shocking
it is now 😎
I spotted two future stars of the first team, wells and jvp
How could you miss steward he’s on the thumbnail
Tell the recruitment guy come to the Isle of Man, there’s so much talent over here and no one gets spotted
Due to the way the RFU allows clubs to "scout", they're assigned a set area to develop youth players, they can't just get players from everywhere. Tigers catchment area is Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire i believe..
i imagine Cornish Pirates and Exeter are probably the teams that get attached that area to scout
@@taylorwilson6655 The Isle of Man is in the Irish Sea..think you are getting mixed up with the Isles of Scilly
and a year later I play for sharks academy
They just lost to wasps
Helmet Boy not this season this was last season
@@OhDeeDoubleU this documentary was filmed last season, is what I think the first guy meant.
After they rested all their good players cause they through to the final with a game in hand
34-31 in the final with Gloucester coming back from 24-0 down and all we got was slo mo? Build the drama especially as its the last one....
Perhaps you should look at some less competent acedemys such as Worcester warriors- and see how they cope with losing consistently.
Interesting but rather repetitive. A mass of basic relevant information isn't included, for instance: number of players in Academy; how players are selected; pre-Academy teams; background of players; numbers finally winning places in Leicester's first team or the first teams of other clubs; injury and drop-out rate over the two-year academy period. Also, mentioned but no explanation given of what the Development team is. So overall, disappointing and superficial.
Players are elected by their own coaches for trials for the DPP, once spotted by the tigers coaches they go to the TDG... if they impress there, it's the academy next...
Extremely repetitive, a number of clips reused throughout the series which in the end made it bland...
Anyone got tips for an aspiring pro who hasn’t reached an academy or anything yet still play local (I play 4)
Xxsucc_ur_mumxX work rate is everything. Show everyone that you want it more, and want to grow and improve
J Coe yeah I’m 15 at the moment and recently I’ve decided I really wanna try going pro and I’ve been improving a lot more recently due to a change of mindset I. Aiming to try my hardest in school education wise and in rugby so I can go bath university and try to make it from there but idk if that’s to late
Nah mate it’s never too late where abouts do u play at the moment
HBoss 27 I play up in Wales for a team called brynamman but I was born in England it’s hard being an Englishman I’m wales 😂
Xxsucc_ur_mumxX I recommend taking all the things into account, I’m 15, 6’1 123 kilo prop and my mate is a second rower and he’s about 6’4-6’5 so make sure that ur about that height and make sure ur physical ability is there, then once thats sorted, technical ability is easy to work on. I’m a London Scottish Academy prop btw. Insta: _timgcr_
Freddie steward
but why do their jersey's have letters?
While you are there get Ben Youngs and tell him not to kick the fucking ball away with less than two minutes to go when he could’ve just picked and drive until the whistle went!
South Africa
Is this the same Leister tigers, who would get relegated if not for Saracens 100 point deduction.
Swear this is last season
Cazzas club yeah it is
Why does one team have the letters of the alphabet on their backs and not numbers?
Leicester tradition - they had it in the seniors until it was compulsory for numbers
Would have been better if we'd seen Gloucester's points as well. Too much about what the Tigers did right and not wrong. And in Rugby you have to give credit to your opponents. Just saying as it's a gentleman's game.
nice second comment
Why do they play with letters on the jerseys
Up until about 2000 (Might be later than that), the Tigers used to wear letters on the backs instead of numbers. Bristol did as well. Leicesters amazing front row of Garforth, Cockerill and Rowntree were known as the ABC club.
Harvey
apart from they dont live up to it in the first 15
Am I the only one who finds it weird they wear letters rather than numbers?
It's part of their history so yah
looks like a primary school in south africa
Well it just isn't mate😂
lol
