85-92 was definitely the golden era of RC. So much cool stuff.. now I’m in my mid 40’s and trying to build the collection I couldn’t back then as a kid.
I love the hot shot family of cars. The hot shot and the Big Wig are my favorites, but I love em all

It's not a bunch of dribble. Those early days getting our first RC kit from Tamiya or other, really sparked something in our soul. There is something about it all. That's why you and all of us keep doing this hobby! The old models and rere keep us interested. Believe me, I'm surrounded by a ton of those models also. Keep it up ol buddy! Thanks.

Loving the Sabre Glenn, I think one thing you have said and always say in your videos is that all these cars are no longer just cars to play with, they represent memories of much simpler times. I would spend ages watching the promo videos at my local model shop as my mum waited patiently all the time planning how she could save the money to get me one for Xmas. I can't wait until Christmas day this year to build my Wild One, my first car I got and built with my late father who I lost about a year ago, it will be a big tribute to him and Ray Lynch will lose his drive as Dad's Name is going on the car ❤

It was genuinely the 1st car that got my attention the 1st time i saw an issue of RC Car Action. Took forever to get them to rerelease this. Funny you mention the thundershot i just finished the resto of my original last wk. it sat on shelf broke for over 30yrs. Fixed now even with correct elecs. Called the man who gave it to me (to have a 4wd for 4wd class race that i never made it to b/c i broke it) and showed him it sorted out. Funnier still was last xmas when i ordered a ReRe Thundershot and sent it to his house unannounced. A good laugh was had by all. -U10

What a run tamiya did in 4wd from 85/86/87 absolutely Classics! Happy for you Glenn as these kits are so nostalgic for us its pure magic! But lol yep still don't have enough cash to buy them! Iol my mrs said she will buy me one for Christmas but l am stuck between this the Super Sabre or HS2??? help!!!!
    Can't get the both!
We old boys are living the dream for the 2nd time 30/40 years later! l too say a massive thank you to tamiya and to you my friend for fueling the fire too!
I have to agree 100% Glenn about the pre-cut and painted bodyshells absolutely bang on for me! About the box l think l will go for the HS2 just because of the box lol! That one off special silver box with epic boxart is mind blowing to me! Just love that box!
The Super Sabre is pretty damn sweet also!
I am pretty sure by now you know Glenn the Boomerang was my bread and butter 4wd back in the day and have the same emotion for it as you do this but for me its still all about the Hotshot! Definitely my favourite of the family!
I love all the Shot family and l was the guy who asked Keith to do a video of the Shots a while back that Keith nailed! Just epic family in the RC timeline full stop! Glenn brilliant vid buddy love tamiya!
Love the bag what a bit of rc history, Martin nice one!
Mate keep doing vids and being as passionate as always even if its only a video a week on tamiya wheel nuts lol fantastic mate.

I loved the multiple model ads in the old magazines, even when they were uncolored. 100% drool material as a pre-teen kid. 🤩🤤🤤🤤 ……. Big Wig does stand out! I used to think it was corny but as I’m 46 this year it’s all nostalgia, it clearly stands out and is burned into my memories.

Jeez thats brought back memories or Beatties in Blackpool. Looking at all the RC that i knew my family could never afford and ending up with an off brand from a market stall. Simpler times. Growing up in the 70s and 80s . Brilliant video for that Beatties memory if nothing else

  • @steveblackbird

As always Glenn, Fantastic video. I originally subbed because of your infectious enthusiasm. As a child of the 80's my start was a Hornet in late 85. 86 saw the Fox, then a Wild One, then a second hand Frog.
Went to nitro 1/8th buggy after that and left Tamiya around 1990.
    Fast forward a "few years".....
Because of you I just bought a brand new 2011 Re-Re Avante and I'm in love. What a car. A car I couldn't afford at the time.
Forgot how much joy there is in building these things. Hate painting and cutting bodies too (Got a second spare shell, undertray and wing with it too...
Box art shell is done and looks stunning. Now I'm currently waiting for an ESC, I'll keep it brushed, Technigold motor coming from Japan too. Oh dear... It's happening all over again. The Tamiya bug is back.
Mind you I currently own about 30 RC's. Traxxas X-Maxx, XRT, Arrma Felony, Typhon 6s, crawlers you name it...etc etc.. and yes they are all epic...some are stupidly fast but they are expensive..though, tough as nails.
Nice trip the nostalgia thing isn't it!!!
    Keep up the great work!!

I totally get it with what you say and do. Its all about the memory for me as well. Tamiya was BIG in the 80's as a kid. Seeing the cars and most my parents could not afford. I was lucky to even get the cheapest one, Grasshopper. LOL But did I have a blast with it when it came to my home by UPS. I will never forget it. My best friend down the street, him and I drove our cars all over the street. We would spend hours in his room modifying our cars with motors and shocks or whatever would make them better. Got all our aftermarket parts from Michaels MJ Design, now just Michaels. He was fortunate enough to get a handful of them. Hot Shots, Big pickups, all sorts of buggies. Great great memories of the past.

My first Tamiya. Obviously I have one on order, but ordering it is pure nostalgia, when I remove my rose tinted glasses I remember how delicate it really was. Same with the rere Blackfoot currently sitting on the shelf (the original fell apart way too quickly, I can't have been THAT rough with them back then), looking gorgeous but with the almost mandatory MRP diff that costs almost as much as the kit 😅

  • @snapshot_rccars

Great video. Lots of points I can agree. One of the first vintage models I've bought, which I had or wanted back in the day was a new build Avante 1988 from Japan in about somewhere of the year 2000 I guess. It cost me an arm and a leg back then and no one was talking about rereleases. The other was a Porsche 959 Rally new built as well and again it cost me a little fortune. At that period of time I was first time racing RC touringcars, actually restarted with the RC Hobby by the end of 1996 with a Kyosho TF-2. Had HPIs and Yokomos to race but always was Surfing trough the Tamiyaclub forums back then as the childhood buggys were also a thing which had my interest. so I learnt in 2007 that tamiya will rere the Hotshot and that was like a Bomb for me and I had to have one, as the Hotshot was the first RC I wanted back in the day, but when it was Christmas I did not get it, I got a Hirobo Bearcat 2WD Electric Buggy instead. Complete with a radio system, nicad battery and a plug in charger. Easy to say how much disapointed I was. After that I saved u p all my pocket money and bought myself the Bommerang, that was almost 9 month or so later and I loved that thing. Later I wanted a Thundershot, but it was delayed, so our LHS made a great deal with the Distributor and got some Bigwig kits for the price of the Thundershot and of course I've bought one of these. But man was I disapointed of the performance of the Bigwig, it was heavy and steered like a heavy Tank, quickly sold it. Later Ive also bought a second hand HS2 from a friend and converted it to a Supershot, because it looked so much better. Anyway, as you I have lots of memories in the Hotshot family. I have all the Hotshot family cars except the Super Sabre and can't wait to get it.

Great video's keep them coming! Your right its more about the memories! My first car was a Striker I got for grade 8 graduation (I'm turning 51 this December so you can figure out how long ago that was lol). Doubt they will ever rere that car. But the Super Sabre was probably my favorite Tamiya car I had.

Fantastic video, made my Sunday morning. I’d love to complete the collection but I have to pick between the Super Sabre and the Hotshot II and because the Hotshot II is the second car I got back in the day and I sold it when I got married at a carboot for £15. In was mint with Technigold, fully ballraced with futaba radio set. I was painted metallic dark green loved it and one of life’s biggest regrets. I know now hope to have the opportunity to to get it back 🤞it will complete my Hotshot family albeit the Super Sabre sadly but my memory will be real again ❤️ thanks Glen 🙏😊

Cool video Glenn nice one! I’ll put up the ORV chassis as a contender for the most vehicles, with the brat, frog, lancia rally then Blackfoot, monster beetle mudblaster then the other Blackfeet and bushdevil. Obviously the last few have a different gearbox and suspension so that may exclude them 😆, and I guess that as they’re not all buggies maybe the hotshot family wins still. They’re both cool collections regardless

I have had owned Boomerang and Bigwig and I agree with you Glenn, Bigwig is one of a kind. The rack and pinion steering is one and done nicely. It is distinguishly stands out not only within the Hotshot family also within Tamiya RC line up.

I do watch your videos to listen to you waffle on. My favourite saying is “just look at it. What a thing” and I sit and go “yeah look at it”
You can’t fake that passion. And if an alien came down I’d say take me back to 1986 so I can do it all again. I’d still get that boomerang haha

Hi Glen awesome video, love your work. I am the guy that Keith bought all the top forces from. I live not to far from you. Just had a quick question. In your Terra scorcher video with the rc evologic parts it shows you were send the front and rear shock towers for the vqs, if you are not going to use them can I purchase them from you. As rc evologic does not make them any more. Please let me know thanks

Hello Glenn, I was not much of a Hot Shot fan because of the clam shell chassis. I used to work at a hobby shop and I used fix R/C cars. The Hot Shot was difficult to fix because of chassis. It also had a mechanical speed control also hard to get to. However, with modern electronics this might not be a big problem. I did finally get a Tamiya Hot Shot. I got the one you do not like. I got the Blockhead motors version. I do have to admit that I do like the way the Super Saber looks. Thoughts?
