stage 19 and it finally starts to feel like a real grand tour .. also watching Derek Gee has been the best part of this giro so far.
I am so with you on that comment 👏
No it has not
Gee has shined because he is way back minutes. The real 37 year old G is the story his last stand tour was TDF was 3 rd only to Jonas and Pog. He is the real story.
What a way to enter your first grand tour for Derek Gee. 4 x 2nd position finish and 2x 4th!
Too bad he hasn't clenched a win. Has Canada ever had a grand tour 1st? What a promising rider.
Ryder Hesjedal from Canada won the 2012 Giro
@@thephotoyak Ryder Hesjedal won the Giro in 2012
@@thephotoyak a few recent one. Hugo Houle 2022 stage 16 of Tour de France. Michael Woods two win on the Vuelta 2018 and 2020
So impressive. Consistency makes for great riders and he's got it in spades.
credit to Buitrago, a cleverly ridden race....but you got to admire Derek Gee, who whenever asked pre-race about his plans for the day he says "naw, I don't think so, but we'll see"....and then he collects 4 second places, I can feel for him being heart-broken today, but he'll surely come back
He also collects the second place of mountains classification and points classification after today's stage.
How can you not cheer for a Gee win at the Giro! The man has given his all day after day. Thank you for making this Giro an exciting one to watch. Looking forward to seeing him in his next big tour race.
Go Gee go!
One of the riders of this year's race!
Good at last to see the two leaders push to their limit... May the best man win! 😊
I feel bad for the canadian guy, he tried every time he could, he really worked hard the whole giro.
thanks but still this is a MAGNIFICENT ACCOMPLISHMENT FOR HIM
He is an absolute Hero❤. But we are not known for our VO2 maxes in Canada lol. Just pure grit. 😊
He’s second in both the points and KOM category’s too
He'll get there. Cycling is a very harsh sport in that regard because the guy coming in 2nd often is seen as a first loser instead of being praised for his accomplishments.
he is not sorry, it is his 1st giro, and thats a lot, and in stage racing cycling, 2nd is dangerous, not a loser.
Derek Gee, just kudos dude!
I had some hopes for my countryman Almeida but it would take some kind of a miracle now. I really think Thomas deserves this one. Great defending from him but Roglic is still going to try.
Nice to see a Canadian on podium. Good job Derek Gee!
well done Derek Gee. you are our Cdn hero !!
"Giro di Gee"...I love that !!
He is the one who has kept me interested in the 2023 Giro. Honest !!
One for the old guard! 🎉
Gee-sus Derek’s an inspiration! Full attack mode, can’t wait to see him finally get what he deserves in the coming years ❤
He's been so unlucky not to pick up a win. One of the riders of this year's race!
What a terrific stage!!!!
exciting race...

more power to you guys
Cycling is the most exciting adventure above all and this suuuuper race is the best prove about it guys, for those who need to understand cycling...what are we talking about

He wasnt on podium
Derke gee has the local kom at this climb called Rattlesnake Point I am making it my goal to take this kom lol he did 643 watts for 2 minutes and 56 seconds I can do 430 watts for 1 minute current so I'm goingto need a crazy tail wind and more fitness. Derek Gee I'm coming for kom watch out lol.
Good luck bro. Derek is the man of the moment !!
@farrier53 I know he's almost like a robot the power this guy puts down is unbelievable. But fir a short burst of power mabey I have a chance but he doesn't even train for that he trains to ride 5 hours then put down 20 or 30 minutes all out but despite not specializing in 2 minutes power he still puts down some crazy watts. I'm going to get a friend to lead me out pick a day when the wind is going a certain direction and get in much better shape. There is this local guy who is now on a pro team and only managed to get 9th it's a pretty competitive kom segment.
haha nice to see an ontario local. i live in guelph but have never attempted Rattlesnake Point
@Silas Wong I'm not far from guelph I ride through there all the time it's a nice town, you should ride out there sometime it's a super nice ride all down hill except Rattlesnake to the lake. You got strava I will add you if you want.
What a nail biting finale to this memorable Giro!!! Honestly the underrated strength of the Ineos team with only 5 riders left in the last week is behind G holding on while riding tempo and doing only short bursts when needed… De Plus and Arensman have been notoriously difficult to crack.. but in the end the reality is that the final TT will not give Thomas the win just by riding tempo on his own…. The climb is brutal and Thomas will need to get out of his comfort zone and go all out… can he sustain this over 4,5 km of brute slopes? 26 seconds and more can be easily made up…. If Roglic has the legs he wins easily 💪🤛
🤣
@@stevecooper7038 this is exactly the way it panned out in the end 😊
That mountain TT looks awfully steep.
First 5.3km AVERAGES 15% with a max of 22%. It's insane
@@petert4032 OMG that's so strep
It is even worse some sections are 30% plus. This is a very step tt.
That stage today will be brutal
Team Ineos domestiques have been very poor, they left Gee exposed to Visma attacks
Honor was given to the Cima Coppi on this day, where there was nowhere to hide on such a brutal climb.
There will be a new winner 🏆 in this year's Giro 💪 🙏
Gee will be a STAR during Vuelta💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🚴♂️🚴♂️🚴♂️
Mountain TT definitely suits primoz
Best stage upto now for me was the 1 McNulty won, that was pretty gripping, Iwas well happy for him, 👍
Cannot wait to see these guys TT up the mountains.
I'm almost holding my breath.😬
It didn't disappoint!
Tech question here, if anyone can help: disc brakes are now the norm on grand tour bikes. Are they running hydraulic or cable? I'm interested because presumably there's a weight difference. The camera never stays still long enough for me to be able to tell from the footage. Thanks all.
Hydraulic
Hydraulic - no expense spared for the pros via the sponsorship budget.
Best of. Best
GT is in total control!!!
Go João Almeida!
This is one of the most unexciting races in modern times. Almost on par with the 2012 tdf. Nice scenery though
Terbaik lah Primo
Ben healy and Eddie doing us proud 🇮🇪🇮🇪. Bring it home tho g so I can win my bet
Will Roglic be able to pull back 29 secs on Thomas in tomorrows summit finish ITT bearing in mind it's only a short 18km stage and they're both good climbers?
PS- as a matter of interest suppose Rog does pull it back and they finish with the same GC time, who'll be given the Giro?
Only see Roglic taking the win if G cracks badly at the toughest slopes.
I didn't think Roglic could do it but he won the ITT. What a nail biter!
@@dawnc5797 Yeah, 2nd is not bad for an old fart like Thomas (37).
(no offence, I'm 75 myself)
Why, having changed bikes, were Roglic and Kuss allowed to draft behind the cars for so long? Where are the stewards?
Lol, and how could go to catch the peleton in this narrow road if not riding behind cars?
Maybe they should ride offroad?
What nonsense you are talking here.
@@markpowder4664 Well chosen spot then? Just keeping up with the flow ....LOL
Cheating in my books. JV bend the rules all the time so no surprises.
You are absolutely right. This is deliberately bending the rules. This was not a "mechanical problem"; it was an equipment exchange. I am fed up with cheating in professional sport ( football is the worst culprit). Stop calling this "dark arts", " game-management"; "bending the rules"etc; it's just cheating, nothing else. Win fairly or s-d off.

He's been so unlucky not to pick up a stage win, one of the riders of this year's race!
I like the idea of using a bike with huge gears for a really steep stage.
Not sure I like riders changing bikes to change gear sets during the race.
If your bike is bust, sure, but changing gearing is a bit sketchy.
Pick you tools before the race and stick with it.
exactly what i was thinking. super lame.
perhaps his battery was dead.
He saved his legs for tomorrow by switching to mtb gears
This is certainly nothing new, have seen it many times over the years with terrain changes. Whatever works.
Yeah but your still investing energy to get back to the group ans theres always the risk of missing something while your behind
It’ll be settled in the race of truth!
Tre Cime di Lavaredo on the most beautiful mountains of the world, really worth of a Cima Coppi as traditional at Giro. You won't see such climbs at TdF ( true fact ). Tomorrow's stage such a hard ITT for climbers : first 5 kms average gradient of 15%, last 7 kms av. grad. of 12.3%. Mispelling chats by clueless people count nothing.

Are those Slovenian mountains? 🤣
Ne

Primoz riding gravel gears. I was not expecting that.
Perhaps worried about the TT climb, but nothing happened in the GC race.
Apart from Roglic attacking in the final 2km, Thomas chasing to get back on, Almeida being dropped. Then, Almeida fighting to get back, Thomas attacking, Roglic chasing to get back and then gapping Thomas by three seconds.
I’d try watching again.
@@johnwestwell2241 so nothing. Decent GC guys used to attack at 6 km out, to be able to win time, instead of this last km BS
I barf every time he says GEE-DOH
Stop with the TTs the final day. The 21 day stage race should be decided at the top of a mountain shoulder to shoulder rather than against the clock
I don't know. At least now we got to see both Roglič and Thomas fighting to gain time. If this were the last stage one of them would just safely (try to) hold the wheel of the other, which isn't very exiting to watch either IMO.
@@Tibovl it would have been better to have this TT a few days ago, with a few mountain stages afterwarda to make up for TT losses

I think that Roglic’s gearing helped him in that last 100 meters, but if the best he has is three seconds, he isn’t at his best.

Роглич молотоккк!
Wish to see pogacar fighting with them
yeah, so when we don't have the big guns like Vingegaard, Evenepoel or Pogacar, the cycling races are as boring as they used to be a few years back. Very few attacks between the GC contenders, only in the last km or so, small gaps as well. This is just a remider that we live special times and we should be very grateful to have these three big talents in the sport!
hi
Of course, anybody can change their bikes whenever they want. But a). the Jumba Visma Sporting Director was deliberately lying when he said Roglic had his change bike set up for tomorrow's stage. He didn't; he had it set up for the final climb of today's stage AND tomorrow's stage. b). Why, having changed his bike, were Roglic and Kuss allowed to draft behind the cars. This was not a mechanical problem bike change.
There's too much cheating going on now and deliberately bending the rules e.g. holding onto to water-bottles and getting pushes from team cars; drafting behind motor-bikes and team cars. That said, this has been a gripping Giro ( the recent scenery has been rather majestic too) and Ineos have been the sporting winners when you consider what they have achieved with three of their top riders absent.
Everybody can change bycicle as many time want in race.
And if somebody spy about reason for this, it ia aloowed to not tell him anything,.. and yes you can even mislead the spy
@@markpowder4664 Could you possibly re-write your comment, this time in comprehensible English? I haven't a clue what you are trying to say.
P S. So, you do agree with my comment about bike exchanges? I have no idea where your "spying" comment emanates. But Alberto Contador was shown interviewing the JV Sporting Director and he confirmed the change bike was set up for TOMORROW.
That atrocity Roglic was cycling in the mountains should have been docked 10 minutes. Looked awful
not even I need 44t for 20%
With only one ring at the front, you do
If not so much accident on GrandTours .. GT would won more Grand Tours....
With a few very minor exceptions, it has been a very boring Giro for the GC fight.
Luckily there is riders like Gee and Pinaut which deliver outstanding performances and drama.

You need a 44t for climbs these days 😅. Just use XTR instead Dura ace 😂. It’s not fun to watch anymore. Goodbye!
Damn Roglic looks like he hates being part of this Giro lol
The next, and last, stage looks hideous!
Thank god there is the Tour de France in July. There’s a reason why that’s the biggest race in the world always excitement at least. This stage though was good but this giro was dissapointing to watch.
il tour de france e di una noia mortale paesaggi tutti uguali sempre dritti a parte 2 o tre salite sulle alpi meglio il giro
Can’t wait for that excitement riding into Paris clinking the cliche Champagne 🥂 glasses knowing it’s just a promenade procession.
TBV….dirtiest team in the peloton. I hate seeing them win.
Why doesn't the commentator do a fake Welsh accent when talking about Thomas, a fake Irish accent when introducing Sean Kelly, a fake American accent, Australian accent etc etc, just reserves it for French and Italian riders and places? Drives me nuts
Hahaah good one. I think he doesn’t want to offend the French and Italian as they’re pretty anal about people pronouncing their riders name and places correctly. Not so much for the rest I guess
Rob does it to feel superior, he's such a linguistic genius.
Cause you're talking about accents of English. He makes an effort with language proper pronounciation (Italian, French, Spanish, etc.), which Is different, and much appreciated by native speakers. No superiority, just doing your job properly and doing your research with pronunciation (yes, he doesn't make an "accent", he "pronounces").
I'm italian, i don't care about his pronunciation of italian words, though he must have spent some time on it
@@andrefyable Andrey, it'd be great if you could work on your English before you start patronising others about the ins and outs of linguistics.

Honestly...This Giro was boring. The old amazing men can't distance each other. It's been stale in the GC battle, this was a breakaway Giro 🤷
This perfectly shows why people think cycling is boring. It's like a cooler golf.
