I don’t see how Goomba hasn’t blown up yet. His content is equally as entertaining as the top gaming channels at worst. It must be coming soon.
Blame the CZcams Algorithm.
@@girl1213 He did once. But the algorithm did him dirty.
192 k is pretty good.
@Oceane he deserves at least bare minimum 1m though for the quality of his content
@@Oceane1803 After 8+ years of good content should be more imho
I like that the Lonely Goomba playable character has no Kart. There's just a bunch of people in karts racing around at 150CC and then you just see a Goomba absolutely bricking it through Waluigi Pinball at 200mph.
Exactly. Best game ever
@@TheLonelyGoomba agreed
In mission mode, if you bump on the side of the crate instead of head-first, you'll retain most of your speed.
Yeah I did get triple stars in everything some reason. But it’s still a lame mission
How do you still remember this fact? 😂
Mario Kart DS was definitely one of my most nostalgic games I have played back then. I really think it’s cool and weird that R.O.B makes a appearance in the game, I mean they put a bloody Tamagotchi character in one of the Mario Kart Arcade games.
My earliest memory of Mario Kart DS was getting roasted online by some R.O.B who mastered Snaking.
R.O.B? I thought it was Goomba smh
Its kind of bonkers how far we've come in this series. Today where hyper examining the layout of 48 DLC courses, in 2005 we where all "Holy shit this map has bumpy bits!". Still really miss the mission mode though.
Mario Kart 8 was a massive jump really. I think a lot of people are kinda fatigued with that game since it's been out for a nearly a decade, but can't deny it's nuts how much content it has.
The fact that a third of the base game's courses in deluxe were originally dlc is still wild to me
The worst part of the loop of death is it's a giant blind spot for enemy items.
The mission mode can be pretty unfair at times
King goomba especially for being a game of memorizing the mushroom location
Also thanks for mentioning days of ruin
Tbh I just snaked so I didn't notice :x
Nice to see Goomba getting a genuine sponsor, I was 100% expecting it to be another joke lol
No chupa chups this time
Raid Shadow Legends is a joke of a Mobile game.
Ive seen much worse tbh.
@@TheLonelyGoomba Do you still sell those silicone Goombas
@@vonwolfe1310 tbh that would be good merch if there wasn’t the small problem Nintendo would probably sue me
I remembered something neat about the multiplayer where if a friend didn't have Mario Kart on them, they could still join a multiplayer party but they would only be able to play as Shy Guy. It's cool that he's there but the fact that this was the only way to play him outside of using a game genie or an R4 card at the time kinda made the roster feel incomplete just because 1 character was locked behind a very specific set of requirements.
Now he's basically gone forever now by normal means, alone in a void between the main game itself and the discontinued online service for the DS. Literally in DS limbo.
At least they remedied this in later games.
On the point you made about how _DS_ basically set the ground-work for every _Mario Kart_ game after it, I find it interesting that it holds true all the way through to the franchise's logo: starting with _DS,_ the "Mario Kart" name ditched the main series' letter design and replaced it with that sleek "pro-racing" font, and that version of the logo has stuck around all the way through to _8 Deluxe_ and even carried over to _Arcade GP DX_ and _VR_ too.
Technically Mario Kart DS wasn't actually the first entry to feature online play. You could also play online on Mario Kart Double Dash, although that did require a more elaborate setup.
It’s funny cos I originally had a section in the video where I said there’s probably some obscure SNES online game or something no one knows about. But I removed it cos it didn’t fit in the video well. It was immediately after I mention it’s the first online game
Technically Mario Kart Double uses the LAN setup, not the Wi-Fi setup. So using 2 to 8 GameCube (each with a Broadband Adapter and a copy of the game) and the required Hub/Cables, you can have up to 5-8 players / each with their own screen (which can lead to 9-16 players for co-op fun).
I believer there are tools that do allow the use to make this work online, but these are unofficial, and only work using Dolphin Emulator (czcams.com/video/dhtMSCMHXjs/video.html), so I'm not counting that as online support.
@@TheLonelyGoomba There was XBAND for the SNES and Genesis, but who actually had one of those?
If you wanna get technical, Mario Kart Super Circuit has the GameCube beat because of a fun little toy called the Mobile System GB, which allowed players to connect their GBA to a Mobile System, an adapter, and their phone to play online with each other. This was Japan exclusive, ended in 2002 and the only notable games were Mario Golf and Super Circuit
GameCube uses a Lan set up not internet
I've been playing double dash for years and I never notice that shortcut in Yoshi's Circuit at 10:22. Thanks for the tip Goomba.
16:31 That reaction just once again reminds us that Goomba is British. No one else would be so nonchalant at getting their face bit off.
Been watching this channel for years, and it boggles my mind how this channel hasn't blown up. Each and every video is a gem.
Views are steadily increasing this year so you never know. I don’t really care if I blow up or not I just wanna be able to make a living from it.
Tremendous announcement of me as this week's patron of the week, TLG.
You know you're in for a good time when he starts by reviewing the box first
You have entered the 2000's nostalgia area 😎
That's what happens when you game for the rest of your life.
Yes sir
we will hit real 2000's nostalgia when people start going on about Megaman Battle Network and Tales of Symphonia
😎
I am so happy this video came out! I was craving some more lonely goomba goodness!
One thing for sure, the dual screen can help us who has a blue Shell. I always let the other racers be in first place until get blasted by Blue Shell.
9:09 DarkSydeGoomba - He needs that money, he really needs that money!
I loved the thumbnail art, it really captures the POINTY edges of the game models
You really have been pushing yourself lately for both quality and quantity of content. Your channel is at its best right now, and it’s clear you’re more focused than you’ve ever been in the channel’s history. Keep it up Goomba.
Has dry bones and daisy, instant classic
Still the snappiest Mario Kart to me. Everything feels so fluid and getting hit by items doesn't take you out for too long. It just feels right to me, minus the amount of D-pads and R buttons I've worn through...
The fact that you go all out on these videos and don’t get anywhere near the attention you deserve is an absolute crime that I won’t stand for! You’re unmatched in sheer quality
I love how much effort you put into your channels and the jokes that are placed in here like the jail part lol
The jokes in this video are just hit after hit, stellar job.
I try my best 🙏
I remember watching you as a kid and just remembered you. Glad to see your still active
Mario Kart DS?! I loved that game, and seeing you talk about it really brought back the feels!
Dude how do you produce content so quickly with such high animation quality?! It's incredible.
Thanks. Although I still get comments saying I take too long to upload. Can’t win sometimes lol
@@TheLonelyGoomba totally understandable, but that means your fans love your content. imagine being a fan of itsadogandgame... That next video is never coming.
@@spirenguard True. He works for Rerez now btw if you've ever wondered what he's upto.
I loved this game so much I broke the L and R buttons on my DS good times
Rip your ds' shoulder buttons, they been abused too much for snaking in Mario Kart DS
Whenever i go back and play this one i always get so infuriated by the unfair rubber-banding.
Yeah. You don’t notice how bad it is till you snake and you see how the cpu still magically keep up
@@TheLonelyGoomba Yeah, this and 64 probably have the worst rubber-banding in the series.
@@Vro789 wait until you see how aggressive the Computer players are in Mario Kart Wii...
@@Mr.Feather130 Mk wii was the first one i had so im most used to that games bs
@@Vro789 okay but Mario kart 8 (deluxe) on the other hand with 200cc,the computer players get too crazy on that difficulty
I still can't believe I have yet to Unlock The Lonely Goomba in the game! God. I gotta go back and play it to 100% and unlock him!
Something that can be useful in 150cc is that you can dodge the Blue Shell with a mini turbo and immediately a hard turn hop. That Shell does have a audio que for the timing (when it the Shell goes silent before dropping on you).
Ramps can be life savers too
You're so real for that Mission bit. People suck the things they grew up with so hard and don't take a second to criticise it, and anyone thet does is a "hater". I love Mario Kart DS, but customizing a Kart Emblem was more fun than the missions!
6:34 This is my favourite Mario Kart DS Track.
I forgot you could make your own Emblem, I think mine was some random trash
I remember mine being oddly decent pixelart of something crude that I wasted hours of my life on. Good times
Mine was a Tails symbol from Sonic.
I really love these new features you been doing lately. I been watching you for months now and it's gotten even better over the years. Keep it up Goomba.
I used to love this game as a kid, but you forgot to mention the DS download play. Sure, you could only play two of the cups, but the fact that you could play with eight players with one copy of the game was great at the time. It got me and my friends through alot of middle school bus rides.
When this game came out, my brother, coworkers and I would play this on our breaks. Watching this was a pleasant nostalgia trip Goomba, thank you!!!
I used to play this a lot when I was younger visiting my grandpa at the hospital while the grown ups were talking. It was a good escape
My mom trolled me big time with this one, on the christmas I asked it for. She had hidden the game inside a significantly larger crispbread box, so at first, looking at the presents' sizes, I started frowning when none of the boxes had a DS game box's size x)
It took me years to unlock World 7 in Mission mode. Not because it's hard, mind you, it's just that I already was (and still am) so used to Ranking systems being -a total waste of time- there for the hell of it.
I recently found my old copy of mariokart DS after several years. and started playing it again. Watching this video I can’t believe how much I haven’t actually completed yet. Nice work, I think I am now inspired to grind the game to unlock everything!
I remember playing this all the time as a kid, to the point where I’d be playing it at bedtime and hiding the ds under my pillow when my mom was coming
It has a special place in my heart, even if the drift mechanic was OP
Mate you’re on it this year , keep going !
It was my first Mario Kart, so of course I'm blinded by nostalgia! You made a great video, covering all the strengths of the game. It's interesting your comment that this game set the framework for the series, it's something that I never really realized despite the fact that I totally felt it when I came back to this DS version...
A very cool feature of this game was the fact that you could play with someone who didn't own the game. Yes, there were only the first 8 tracks and 1 character available, but the fact that anyone owning a DS to play with you was great, especially in those days when almost ALL kids owned a DS! The number of birthday parties that have happened where more than 6 players clashed with shells and bananas...
I have been watching you for more than half my life and I'm just astonished that you still put out insane videos after all these years
Mission mode was such a nice bonus feature it’s a shame that the Mario Kart Wii missions were locked behind real world timed events and are now lost forever.
I’ve been watching your videos for years now and remember your old artstyles keep it up man 🙌 you’ve come so far!
This game is so awesome. I nearly broke my right bumper trigger and got so many handcramps from nonstop snaking just to beat my donut plains time trial record by 20 milliseconds!
That was a great review! I also enjoyed hearing you talk about racing on the DS. That was a nice change of pace!
i love seeing the coverage of the handheld mario karts! keep it up
For once I'm happy to see a sponsorship, anything to help Lonley Goomba is good.
I love that low-poly Lonely Goomba model so much! This was definitely one of my favourite Mario Kart games; and certainly one of my most-played =D
"*Stays Mad*" Daisy gets no love.. Great review as always, Goomba.
Ah, Mario Kart DS. Where I used to sit by the window and leech the neighbor's Wi-fi cause we couldn't afford anything but dial-up internet.
I remember blistering my thumbs doing snaking too...good times.
One thing I remember is having a 1-star rank for the longest time and absolutely dunking on a 3-star racer once, which gave me the drive to be like "if they can achieve 3 stars so can I" and then I grinded to get it myself to show off online, pretty sure this was only months before the service shut down.
Very well done on getting 3 stars yourself, it's a lot harder to do in this game and Wii [and GBA, though it's the one game I never played] than in 7 and 8. Really wish they didn't make the good ranks so easy to get in the newer games, and also no longer having it show up anywhere in the stats screen or online, kinda feels pointless for 3 stars now.
It feels nice to see how far you have come iv been watching scince your first kirby video and u only gotten better
I love this new chapter in your channel, plus this is the Mario kart I have played the most. The one criticism that I have is that, unlike in the super circuit video, drink driving isn’t a focal point of the narrative: 9.5/10
Mariokart DS is my favorite Mariokart of all time and it's not even close. Snaking with Dry Bones feels so liberating even if it's broken. Every so often I play it just to compete with the staff ghosts on time trials. Besides that it has a combination of the best retro and new battle mode tracks and even though I don't really play battle mode on MK8 deluxe I played battle mode to death on DS. Lastly, the mission mode makes this game the most fun singleplayerwise and I don't understand why they never brought it back. The bosses are from Mario 64 DS so to me it always felt like playing an abridged version of that game
Goomba already showed the flaws with mission mode, considering how repetitive it can get. Super Circuit was better, considering the challenge of the star rankings in terms of single player content, not to mention how its different physics allowed for some truly incredible speed running that is well designed in comparison to snaking.
@@egbertmilton4003 mkds> super circuit in everything besides difficulty lmao 💀
@@picklelord2048 Imagine being such a shill for MKDS, that you forget how many songs and tracks it butchered, how it had the blandest Rainbow Road, a Mission Mode that has less substance than you’d expect, mediocre battle modes and limited online play. How embarrassing
@@egbertmilton4003 sure it may have butchered the retro tracks but super circuit rly didn’t do any better, it’s nitro tracks r the best in the series like goomba said, it’s missions mode doesn’t fully consist of filler levels, there’s lots of levels that are dif and creative hence why everyone loves it so much, most blandest rainbow road may be true but that corkscrew and the loop made it pretty fun, it actually arguably had the best battle mode even goomba said that 😭 bro just stop mkds> super circuit any day
@@egbertmilton4003 and at least it had online play and at the time it was such a cool thing, not to even mention local play where literally everyone back then was bringing they ds to school to play, tell me when someone has done that with mid circuit 💀
I’m loving the amount of quality content coming lately 👍
Your theme song will rattle around in my head until the day I die. It's just so catch lol
One of my favorite childhood CZcamsrs covering one of my favorite childhood games! Yes!
Man, I remember playing this when I was a kid, was more into Mission Mode than anything else! Got to Chief Chilly, but never knew of the Wiggler Boss, really wish I could replay this, but I've lost the game sadly...
I loved the bumping mechanic in this game. You could run into someone and depending on your weight, you'd push them a decent amount. Then if you had the mushroom they could get thrown off the track (my favorite spot was the wall at the start of the Luigi's Mansion stage so they had to turn and drive back on the track).
Thank you Goomba for continuing to make extremely high quality very enjoyable videos.
You're bloody brilliant mate, I love your content and comparing the Trauma center organization Cadaeceus to "Caddicarus". And watching your videos makes me smile no matter how awful of a day I've had.
Your editing is beyond God-Tier dude. Never change
I’m not sure if you’re one for suggestions, but it would be pretty funny to see a video on Plants vs. Zombies for the DS. You might find a few long lost relatives as well; the game includes plenty of your mushroom brethren!
I think you’ve recommended it a few times. I might give it a look for a shorter video. Just not really sure if it’ll have enough to talk about
@@TheLonelyGoomba Guess I forgot the first time, my bad. Glad you’re hanging in there Lonely, I appreciate you’re dedication.
I've been watching this channel for years, and the content is always top notch quality! This goomba is so funny! Keep it up!!
I think this was one of my first video games I ever played honestly. I remember playing this game past my bed time a lot.
9:10 No friggin' way bro. I can't believe the Lonely Goomba is a certified e-beggar. 😔😔😔😔
Love ya, mate! You're good at entertaining people.
3:32 Looks more like a Goomba Bobblehead to me, speaking of which, buy them now!
It was a very nice game back then! And still is in the most of people´s hearts! Well done, Goomba!
PS: 1:52 I´m a Daisy fan but I respect your opinion! xD
Fun Fact: Mission mode was planned to make a return in mario kart wii but got scrapped and was reworked Into the ones we see in the tournaments also mr bean found them in 2018
I liked this game when I was younger 4 years ago
"Auditioning for the next F-Zero game..." IF THERE WAS ONE!!!
You just gotta belieeeeeve
I'm literally going to lose my mind Goomba made a video about my favorite childhood game
Childhood=completed
This is a comment for the algorithm. Further engagement through additional sentences. One more sentence to hopefully get the CZcams algorithm to give more attention to this channel.
9:10 You even featured my boy DSP!
Snort what you can’t do that gumbah.
as someone who played Mario Kart Super Circuit to 100%, I had no idea blue shells even existed in it.
Your intros are outstanding. Love the thumbnails and the animations. I don't get enough time for gaming channels despite being an avid gamer.
This was a lovely change of pace and content
most eye catching thumbnail ive seen in a while. Good stuff
9:10 WHY AM I TOXIC
18:28 you can still play these events because of the wiimmfi servers
Imagine if goomba makes a sm64ds rom hack or a new super mario bros ds rom hack of himself
I remember playing this at school. We used DS download play so people without the game could join. The people without game card are shy guys in different colors, a character that people with the game card can't play as.
This severely limited track selection, as download play only allowed tracks from the first 2 cups.
13:02 the Donut Plains 1 and Koopa Beach 2 Staff Ghosts snake a bit at one point actually, even use some pro strats. That's why they are the most challenging ones
Always a good day when a new Lonely Goomba vid comes on ^^
Mario Kart DS online is my favorite game to play thanks to the high level of snaking involved. It adds an extra layer of excitement and satisfaction that I can't find in other racing games. Also thanks for the shootout :)
Mate growing up with this game was great, and played it so much that since I was young I'd "accidently" delete the save date from messing around and gladly do it all over again. Then years later after picking it back up and 100% the mission mode, learning that there was a 7th set of missions blew my mind, it was like free DLC in a way lol
For me i was only left with one reason to play this game, being the only game i was given with when i was gifted the DS on my birthday. it was pretty fun doing everything it had on to offer but it never ignited the speedrunner in me, neither did i know the drift boost mechanic since i dont think there was a tutorial of showing it. had alot of fun playing Mission Mode.
All i learned from this video is, a goomba spitting continuous faxs left and right, the game is truly a nostalgia ride. have a nice day and take care
I love the Cherry Lake music in the beginning
The cherry on top of this game to me that everyone forgets to mention was the Download and Play. I used to play this so much with other kids in school who didn't have the game
Nice to see goomba Uploading again. He's my childhood...
What was interesting about playing local multiplayer was that if one of you doesn't have the game they can still play it via DS download play. You can only play as a Shy Guy though.
2:20 if I had a dollar for every time I got proven wrong by someone stuck between 2 pipes, I'd have 33 cents which isn't a dollar but you will never fool me, goomba! I saw you break that pipe!
Technically missions do return in tour, but it's an end of cup thing
