This is my favorite Mario game too. I don’t know why people forgot about this game. I hope a new Mario Vs. Donkey Kong comes out cause this is one of the best.

Hopefully people give this game a chance now that it's coming back for the switch, I feel worried that people won't really acknowledge this game due to other recent game releases having more popularity over this one (Such as TTYD remake). In addition, there hasn't been a NEW Donkey Kong game in almost a decade, so some people might feel a little outraged at this game existing instead of a new Donkey Kong platformer. I really enjoyed this game, and I really hope other people do too.

Mario vs Donkey Kong : A series that started off pretty promising then just derailed into a bunch of Lemmings clones .
Not really. The sequels are all amazing puzzle games in their own right, especially Miniland Mayhem and Tipping Stars.
@@seandwalsh3 I honestly prefer Mario Vs Donkey Kong as a Platform/Puzzle hybrid rather than the overly used gimmick of mini toys being automatons and you have to guide them. It was nice for a while, but the series completely derailed from Classic Donkey Kong routes and slowly became obscured and declined. Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge back in 2016 was possibly the killing blow, because it became a glorified gimmick that requires every Mario base amiibos in order to get the full experience on the WiiU.
@@seandwalsh3 If you want my two cents, I'd say the first game struck a really good balance by starting out with both playstyles and then a hybrid of the two in its second half. It made me wonder why the platforming element got dropped in favor of the mini element when it was clear from the outset that both could coexist.
Now with the latest game, the mini concept is being used to sell amiibo. I think a better use of the amiibo figures would be to have the next game go back to the original style where you have Mario by default and have the amiibos unlock more characters that play similar enough to him with extra stages designed around their unique abilities.
The mini concept would still be present but in a way like the first game.
TwinTails100 the Mini Mario gameplay in the original game is fundamentally different from the rest of the series. The first game doesn’t have both playstyles, because it doesn’t have anything similar to the gameplay of the later titles.
The latest game wasn’t used to sell Amiibo. It was a free game basically made for people who already owned Mario Amiibo. To make a full priced game where full characters are locked behind amiibo would be a far crueller move.
@@seandwalsh3 you don’t get what Nathaniel meant, do you? He meant that we need more of puzzle platformers like Donkey Kong ‘94, not a game about Mini Marios. That’s like people wanting a Rayman game, but we get Mario+Rabbids instead. Also, yes, I hate Mario+Rabbids, not because of the gameplay, but because of the premise revolving around the Rabbids invasion of the Mushroom Kingdom, and the presentation of how the Mushroom Kingdom looks. The Mario+Rabbids games look like those fangames that don’t understand what made Mario as a franchise so great.
The Mario vs donkey Kong games are extremely underrated.
I played both the gba and the ds game.
Before Mario maker I played Mario vs donkey mini land mayhem and used the map creation software.
I had a lot of fun.
But back to this game I gotta say this games gameplay is pretty solid.
Trying to collect everything can get pretty hard.
You say the music is bad but spooky house 1 has to have one of my favorite musical tracks of all time.
On the gba anyway.
I almost wish that this game would be remade.
I do like that the first DS game brings back some of these tunes
I'm so glad I'm not the only person that enjoyed Mario vs Donkey Kong: Mini Land Mayhem. I remember getting this game bundled with Wario Ware, Dr. Mario DX, Mario Calculator, and Mario Clock into one DSi.

This game is so long and difficult, was very weird to see that the next game not only changed the gameplay but was also much shorter and easier. At least Miniland Mayhem was a lot longer again with a better difficulty (even the DSi game had almost the same number of levels + also a higher difficulty)
As a speedrunner of this game. I wanna point out that the speedruns do look very impressive and action packed. Most of the puzzles are skipped and we can beat the game up until the first boss in just a bit over 40 minutes!

Fun fact: this game was supposted to be as part of E reader series too plus they where planed to add an level editor to make your own. the extra levels are already there in the game so no need own e reader cause it was quickly droped
Can't agree more, the Game Boy game is the more charming one, with its references to the original Donkey Kong, the maps, the cutscenes etc., while the GBA one got the better level design and mechanics.
Both of them are really good games, if you like the platforming and puzzle genre you have to at least try them, because they're definitely worth it, luckily they are also on virtual console (on 3DS and WiiU respectively I think).
The Mario vs. Donkey Kong game is one of the most underwater works of art I have ever seen. I also want a real life Mini Mario. Like a wind up.

Well, 3 years later and Nintendo announced a remake for the Switch. It kinda looks promising.

I wished they made more games in this style of Gameplay, before the mini's lemmings like style took over
Sometimes I wish the same thing too, but Yizus, this game is so dense that if you actually take the time to beat it 100%, you'll be a little bit burned out at the end.
But hey, there ARE more puzzle platformers out there, like Celeste or even NightSky, so give those a shot.

Watching DK's TV screen through your gba screen through my laptop screen is quite the surreal experience.
It's quite a shame they ended up ditching this gameplay for the Mini Mario styled gameplay for the rest of the series. It was cool for another game or two, but it basically took over.
I'd love to see another game like this again. Better yet, just remake DK'94. That would be epic.

This game was part of my childhood, after beating the game I was so mind-blowed that there were 6 NEW WORLDS to beat, I didn't think the game could get any harder but it certainly did, also the music is so fire I love it so much.
I wish this one had been part of mine! I remember staring longingly at some magazine that showcased it, as a kid x)
I think this ended up being one of the first games I hunted down, when I first found out about emulators.

DK makes some of the same sounds as Godzilla does in the Hanna Barbera cartoon which is weird because he hoots most of the times instead of roaring

This is the most in depth, fun, and cool video i've ever seen about this game.
Probably the best sequel to ("Donkey Kong.") The rest of them should be a series on it's own. Let's call them "Mini Mario Mayhem."
Also, I'd like to believe that the Donkey Kong in DK'94 and Modern DK are meant to be the same Kong, given not only the two games (DK'94 and Mario vs. Donkey Kong) share the same gameplay, but both Kongs wore neckties... not to mention, the instruction manual for MvsDK said "Looks like Donkey Kong is up to his old tricks again", implying this is meant to be the same Kong as the Game Boy Kong. Given Cranky (the OG Arcade DK) has a bias towards modern game development, he would not agree with changes in graphics and gameplay, and would criticize how the game wanted to change the narrative or graphics being too complex, given how Arcade DK has 11 sprites to animate with, whereas Game Boy DK has 8x the amount.

@@VonFirflirch Super Mario Oddysey brought that back. You beat the game once and it's not over, it's then time to go through the game all over again but with harder levels this time and each level having loads of these bonus challenge levels that existed in super Mario 64 and sunshine and galaxy etc but in the games they were dotted throughout the whole game, whereas in Oddysey you've gotta beat the game just to unlock them. But they're a hell of a lot of fun. And oddyaey is probably the easiest 3D mario game just as the base game, but the challenge levels? They're some of the hardest 3D mario there is. It's a bit jarring. You'll die constantly. But it's a lot of fun.
I asked Charles Martinet if he remembers doing voicework for this game and... He sadly doesn't remember.

Jesus I miss Mario speaking full dialogue like this gem. This was my very first ever Mario game I’ve ever played and my very first experience of being a Nintendo player though 17 years of my entire childhood! The early 2000’s were epic.
Mario vs Donkey Kong (GBA) was my very first Mario Game and I loved it for the fake 3D effect, Mario's movements that reminded me of Mario 64, and the puzzle system with the scenario.
Music wise I think it's very different from the Mario games, but the instrumentals give me "city/New York" vibes, which I think it makes sense.
When Mario vs Donkey Kong 2 came out I was incredibly happy, but it turned out to be a very different game. To be frank, I still appreciated the second chapter. But then ALL the other Mario vs Donkey Kong games turned into this Mini Mario gameplay which I don't dislike, but I like way less than the GBA one.
Yeah, that game length, oh man. I was kinda flagging by the time I made it to the first final boss in Mario vs DK, I got it for free with the 3DS Ambassador Programme but I was definitely making myself beat it. Then I realised that when I “beat” the game, I’d only experienced less than half of the thing. Oh man

First I got a recommended video for music from Mario vs DK I got nostalgia and searched it up an found this video! Second, I found you on that Pepe cgi video for XqC someone made a little while back. Then lastly Verlisify toxically replied to one of my comments on a channel called Ethoslab, I searched up him found PokeTips video and there you where!
