- This is the famous Stelvio Pass in Northern Italy. It's late so traffic is quiet. The M3 is a saloon with the competition pack, in M mode with the DSC off, obviously.

Thanks for posting this great video. I will never own a car like that nor will I ever get to drive on a road like that, so the closest I will get is to ride with you on CZcams. And it was just fabulous.
Seriously one of the best driving videos I've seen on CZcams. You are very lucky
Good job! and nice show!!!
@mtrauua Glad you enjoyed. I will add more eventually but not for a few months yet. I just wish I'd made more of these over the years. Some great drives (and motorbike rides) all over the world...
great driving, late braking, fantastic performance of the car. Love it, thanks for sharing
M3 on the Stelvio, no question. The turns are very tight so the BMW's sharper steering rack and more, um, playful rear end means you work less and smile more. It's a challenging road that needs a responsive car. You'll notice in the RS5 video (taken at the car's launch) Audi selected much wider, more open roads. That's where the RS5 shines - it's amazingly balanced and assuring in those big sweepers, even in the wet, but the Stelvio demands a different style of driving that the RS5 doesn't like.
Nice video and the sound of the M3. Greetings from Mexico.
Thanks for the upload
Amazing and beautiful.
Anything else exciting.
With watching this video, I want to hear the theme of 007.
Great driving! You're really good!
seems like a lot of fun, especially at the 180 corners!
Alter Schwede, Du hast es voll drauf!!
@FeatherGlow1 I used to think the same. About 11 years ago I became a motoring journalist and worked very hard (and took lots of driver training) so I would eventually earn the right to get invited on launches like these. Never say never - you can do this too some day!
@MrConorTwomey That's good to hear and I can't wait to see them. Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it.
excellent video and playing with m3. but here is visible how low torque s54 have trouble with uphill.
@audi4myass As I think I mentioned before, I didn't love the M3 when it was launched and I still think it could use more steering feel but BMW has gradually improved it over the years (as it does with all its M cars) to the point where I don't think there are many other machines that could catch it on really challenging roads like these. It's amazing.
@whannel525 I think so. Right now family life and a new job mean less time to play but I will post more in future and I hope they won't disappoint. Good luck with the journalism - remember, being able to write clearly, concisely and in an entertain way is the most importantant thing. There are lots of car nuts out there - set yourself apart!
@richandiben Haha. I'll do my best! As you can imagine, opportunities to drive cars like these on roads like these doesn't come along too often but I'm going to get a better camera I can mount outside the car so future drives will be a little more dramatic.
@MrConorTwomey Thank you for the info. I really hope I can do the same. I can only but try. I would also like to say that I love your videos. Will there be more in the future?
@whannel525 I started 12 years ago by writing loads of articles and submitting them to as many publications/websites as I could. You have to be able to write first and foremost. Eventually after months of perseverance I got an article published and that was it - I was off. It took years to make a wage out of it, though, and wasn't until I was a car mag editor that the really sweet invites (such as M3) started to arrive. I've since retired but these vids bring back great memories!
@jimpodi It's a good point. BMWs never sound great whereas Audis always make a fantastic noise. The M5 sounds like a tractor when it's cold, for example. As I said before, there's great potential in the RS5 if they just backed off the health-and-safety electronics. You can drive the M3 like a go-kart, feeding in throttle and brake as YOU see fit. But Audi doesn't seem to think its customers can manage the same feat (no pun intended)!
I live in Baja California, and here we have a mountain pass: La Rumorosa. It is not as difficult or as long as this, but it's fun to drive. I have a single video that shows no the complete tour, but after'll upload one when get a better camera.
I'm just looking at buying an E90 saloon and was wondering how well they downshift into 1st under hard braking for switchbacks like this, after driving this road in my M5 last year. Seems to be fairly quick! thanks for posting :)
Thanks for sharing this great video. I have to say you know how to drive. Which month was it when you drove the road? But it's not the Stelvio, it's the road from Bormio up to Stelvio? I drove it last year with my bro in my Focus ST. In my opinion it's one of the amazing roads in the alps. Anyway thanks again for sharing this grad vid. Regards
from Germany
05:25 i love that house...!!!!
@Soetman It's Italy! Need I say more?
@MrConorTwomey could you say on cambered roads with tight corners that the RS5 is a faster point-to-point machine though
@cocozaococozao123 Did you not hear that glorious V8 roar?
why on earth do they have a tunnel that only fits cars in one direction ??? O.o
Um, yes it is.
Very nice vid. On the day of writing this comment, it's exactly 8 years and 2 days old.
Is this an E46 or an E90? In the description it says saloon but the E46 was never made as a saloon body, only coupé and cabriolet. Soundwise it sounds like an E46 although that might be due to the quality.
As regards the Stelvio pass, I'm really torn over whether it's the best driving road. It's too narrow and too twisty. Not enough fast, flowy corners. There are better pass roads such as Furka, Susten, the St. Bernards, and Col de la Bonnette.
actionmacaque Hello - it’s an E90 shot on a then-new iPhone. It’s a good road if you want some low-speed, tail-wagging fun but I agree, there are far better driving roads in the world. But that’s where I found myself on that day in that car so I shot a quick vid and stuck it up on YT just for fun. Fabulous car, a ridiculously cheap used buy these days. I’d like to take one down the Route Napoleon or Tail of the Dragon or across Snowdonia in Wales. :)
Where you learned to drive?
Why? Not an oval?
Is it an E92?
@MrConorTwomey How did you become a motoring journalist? I am interested in doing the same.
On this road, RS5 or M3?
8:47 dangerous caw
@chrisstephens101 M3... rear wheel drive.
audi rs5 vs bmw m3 who?
the dsc isn't completely off -.-
@MrConorTwomey BMW M5 like an tractor? lol, the M5 is THE BEST sounding car in his segment, V10 ftw
The M3 has an epic sound but I guess it's a matter of taste. Dislike Audi
best driving road?? i dont get it
switchbacks are not a good driving road
How to destroy a BMW M3...
your not a good driver mate :D
Audi RS5 Any time all the time. BMW is good but Audi is superior. BMW is small and uncomfortable and to be honest after driving it for while i would get sick of all that ugly noise and skidding across the road, in all honesty that is unsafely of a car, if the car is skidding like that on dry roads i can only imagine how would it be on wet, down the cliff you go. Audi is comfort ride quality bigger more options looks better performs better and is for anytime all the time.
